So UM students have figured out how to eat ass with a mask on, but OSU students have not?
I am doing this right?
August 25th, 2020 at 4:45 PM ^
Two words. Dental dam.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:47 PM ^
Leaders and Best. You can have your football. We're on an 18 game ass-eating win streak.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:53 PM ^
In the absence of football this fall, that's a plot I could get into from some, ahem, "production studios" in SoCal.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:24 PM ^
Ummm, you're just listing out things that are football related. If family is so important to you, then you would do anything to protect your parents and grandparents from the pandemic. Saturday family gatherings watching OSU won't be as special if a family member isn't there because they got sick from Covid. If you haven't noticed, our families and communities have been ravaged by this pandemic. What is the difference between here and Europe? Europe took it seriously and wore masks, quarantined properly. We can't convince people to even wear a mask here. That is why we can't have a football season.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:28 PM ^
Azee - No, if you cared about your parents and grandparents you would listen to them. My grandparents have a couple of years left. They don't want to spend it afraid and isolated. That isn't a life to live.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:48 PM ^
And your grandparents speak for the entire population of elderly people in the United States?...Wait... Are you Donald Trumps grandson?
August 26th, 2020 at 12:17 AM ^
These two examples do not speak for the entire US but I really don't think this line of thinking from old people is uncommon.
1) My wife has a grandmother that will turn 99 in early September. My wife's brother is a MD and is her doctor. Back around May, the grandmother asked my wife's brother... You know that virus thing going around killing a lot of people? He said yes grandma, what about it? She asked, How do I get that? I want to get it and maybe it will kill me.
She is very alert mentally but the last few years have been rough on her body and she needs constant care / assistance at home. We just found out last week that her nurse, who is there about 6 hours per day, got sick and was confirmed with covid. Nurse is fine thankfully and wouldn't you know it, the 98 year old grandma did not get it and is still trucking along!
2) I just received a call from my sister tonight. She found my 82 year old father on the floor in his house not able to get up. They took him to the hospital by ambulance and we are still waiting on tests to come back. My dad is forced to be there by himself because no family members are allowed in due to covid, even though he lives in rural western PA with virtually zero covid cases.
He is alert now but the only way we have been able to communicate with him has been thru the nurse by phone. She shared with us that my dad thinks its outrageous that his family cannot see him and that he is pissed off. He said he is old enough that if covid kills him, he is fine with it. The nurse chuckled a little but I can understand where he is coming from. It is terrible that at least one family member is not allowed to be there to support him.
I don't agree with much of the buckeye's logic but I don't think this line of thinking is uncommon for old people.
August 26th, 2020 at 8:12 AM ^
I'm sorry to hear this. My coworker was going thru something similar and I can't imagine how difficult this would be, especially now. I hope you and your family are holding up as well as can be expected
August 26th, 2020 at 10:44 AM ^
Thank you sir. We still don't know what caused the event but per the nurse this AM, he is alert and gaining strength. They are still testing. It is just very frustrating that my sister cannot go in with him. It is always frustrating for me though because I am 3 states away.
August 26th, 2020 at 9:00 AM ^
No one denied that many people might have these thoughts or desires. But we are not in the position to make that decision for them. If they want to go out and expose themselves, they are free to do so. But we have a responsibility towards others who might not feel this way. We can't use anecdotal evidence to justify our desires to entertain ourselves...
August 25th, 2020 at 4:54 PM ^
Based on all recent reporting, there will probably be an approved vaccine by early next year. That means the vulnerable populations within the US will probably be vaccinated by next summer if they take the vaccine. It's extremely unlikely that people are going to spend multiple years afraid and isolated. Suck it up and do the right thing during this temporary international crisis. Your parents and grandparents will have zero years left if they choke to death on lung fluid like my close friend's otherwise healthy 60-year-old father did.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:27 PM ^
I don't want my family to die. I can connect with my family in other ways.
Football is a fucking game.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:35 PM ^
Sure football brings people together, which is, and stay with me, exactly why we shouldn’t be doing it in the midst of a global pandemic. You remind of the protesting parent that blamed low turnout at their protest on a global pandemic.
August 25th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
You can play tripoli or Monopoly or start a family movie afternoon. There is no reason for kids to put their future health, and others, at risk for a three hours entertainment. What you do before or after the game have nothing to do with the game other than that you need something to discuss with these family and friends. If you are droll and cannot substitute conversation or feel like you need to hang with large amounts of people to feel alive, go do that—but spare us the necessity of needing these young men to play a game in order for you to have some sense of “fun.”
August 25th, 2020 at 8:31 PM ^
Vast majority due not have any of those symptoms. Furthermore, they already know a lot about Covid because it is part of a family of viruses. That is why a vaccine can potentially be produced so easily.
Between the fearmongering and the nonchalance Americans tend to be gravitating to the extremes.
August 25th, 2020 at 9:29 PM ^
So, and I’m not arguing with you (God knows that we’ve been on polar opposites of this thing), but maybe it’s really catchy, has a low mortality rate, but also has a plethora of fucked up effects. I can get on board with something like this. It makes sense. And this is coming from an anti-masker.
August 26th, 2020 at 1:22 AM ^
Curious to know your definition of long term? Because typically the minimum acceptable period of time is 5 or 10 years. This means you are proposing no football for at least 5-10 years? Is that indeed what you are proposing?
August 25th, 2020 at 8:46 PM ^
You should change your username to "BuckeyeCultist" because you are no realist.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:35 PM ^
Yea. No shit this was going to happen. People give the B1G a hard time but it’s really the best decision.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:38 PM ^
No, no it isn't. Somehow sports are safe from little league to the major leagues in the United States and Europe but somehow in the midwest of all places we can't play football?
Take that bullshit somewhere else.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
You're on the wrong planet, clearly.
Are people really so out to lunch that they don't realize the Big Ten is not the only conference to cancel?
And mentioning Europe? What the fuck?
August 25th, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
I am an Ohio State fan. The B1G is the only conference I care about.
Again, every sport in the entire world is safe but somehow in the B1G it is not, because...politics. That is not to say a certain political leaning, but it is clear this isn't about the safety of athletes more so the fear of liability and the optics.
The sad part is the players want to play and coaches want to coach.
It is sad that the B1G Presidents and Warren took that away from the athletes and coaches. It is equally as sad you aren't as angered as the athletes we support.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:45 PM ^
Everyone here is now a whole lot dumber for reading this post.
Either you're a Poe or all of the stereotypes about Buckeyes are waaaaay more accurate than I thought.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:46 PM ^
You aren't naive enough to think it is about the safety of the athletes are you?
August 25th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
I guess I'm naive because I can't think of what it would be about if it's not the safety of the athletes. Is it liability? Because in a round about way that's about the safety of the athletes too.
August 25th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
C'mon... You know what it's about. Everybody knows what it's REALLY about. /s.
August 25th, 2020 at 6:17 PM ^
Is this those damned lizard men again?
August 25th, 2020 at 3:47 PM ^
If it somehow comes out that this was a conference conspiracy around politics then I will renounce my Michigan fandom. I won’t support something that pulled a stunt like that.
But in reality, the chances of you being right are about as good as Sir Yacht.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:49 PM ^
Wolverine - I am not talking about any kind of agenda. Just a group of people who are more afraid of liability lawsuits and the optics of playing a season during a pandemic. Please don't take that comment as some conspiracy theory against any kind of politician or political party.
It is obvious the B1G wanted to be the smartest in the room.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
Is it mostly about the $ - yes. The B1G university presidents decided to sacrifice the fall season (and possibly any 2020 season) in lieu of a potential decade's worth of lawsuits.
Do I think that the B1G and Pac 12 are more risk averse with regards to the students' health as well, yeah probably, considering it has institutions such as Stanford, Berkley, Northwestern, and Michigan - top 25 universities still hanging on to the "student-athlete" model.
So yeah, it's probably mostly about $$$, but I do think there is also a huge cultural difference between the conferences - and this weighed on the decisions from the presidents of the universities as well.
If you believe OSU should be in the SEC for football factory, I completely agree.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
Bo - I appreciate the post and agree 100%.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:59 PM ^
I find it odd that so many Buckeyes are popping up on this forum to whine about the B10's cancellation. Are you guys trying to rally support for your insurrection? Move on, man. It's over. Find a hobby.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
Colorado - I honestly haven't seen any other Ohio State fans on here but I've only been active on two forum topics. I don't know why I am spending time on here to be honest but I think I'm just astonished by the lack of pride I see here. I just never thought I would see the day when college football is taken away from the B1G for no other reason than politics and fans of a powerhouse program like Michigan are just like "shrug, it's over, find a hobby". I guess it angers me that Michigan of new isn't the Michigan I grew up hating.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
Pride comes before the fall, and I'd rather we suck up the former before we Dantonio ourselves into oblivion.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:17 PM ^
"never thought I would see the day when college football is taken away from the B1G for no other reason than politics"
What do you expect in a Presidential election year?
/s included because otherwise I'd bet you thought I was serious.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:20 PM ^
We take pride in UM as an institution of higher learning first. Sports are an awesome representative for the school, but they do not define the institution. We will all miss football - it has been my fall Saturdays since freshman year of college.
Amateurism in college sports is just one of the many structural issues in society to be exposed by Covid. It is not the most important issue, but the farce that is big revenue college sports, the NCAA, unpaid athletes, etc is glaringly obvious.
Again, OSU should petition to join football factory SEC, as it is probably a better cultural fit there.
August 25th, 2020 at 5:01 PM ^
Well, if its any consolation - I hate your guts more than ever. "No other reason than politics"?? Fuck off with this shit.
I agree - "find a hobby". If you can't connect with your ignorant-ass Buckeye family without football, maybe you guys can spend the fall reading books or studying how infectious diseases work.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:57 PM ^
I brought this up in the Alabama covid thread...LOTS of Buckeyes on here lately, feels like they want to get the masses on their side.
Like you said, its over, move on...nothing you say/do will change anything. But by all means keep petitioning in-front of an empty B1G building and see what happens, but then complain of low turnout to said petition DUE TO COVID. Ooof
We get it you guys got a squad, recruiting at remarkable levels, beating us up on the reg, could've been a big year for you guys...yaup we all know. So whats the other motives of all these buckeyes on a rivals blog? (cold day in hell if i ever create a login for 11warriors)
August 25th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
I’m suspecting it has to do with this bizarre OSU fan conspiracy theory that somehow Gov Whitmer has stopped the B1G from playing this year. It’s rooted in a hate for all things Michigan, topped with a bit of “liberal agenda” and there’s a dash of sexism thrown in for good measure.
August 25th, 2020 at 11:53 PM ^
Nailed it.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
Perhaps you should have played just a little skool?
August 25th, 2020 at 3:48 PM ^
Who says sports are safe from little League to the major leagues?
August 25th, 2020 at 3:50 PM ^
Every single little league in Ohio.
My daughter has been in dance, gymnastics and starts soccer in two weeks.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:11 PM ^
Sick, bruh.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:52 PM ^
Nobody, because they aren’t
August 25th, 2020 at 3:54 PM ^
JBE - You don't think little leagues are safe? Holy shit man, how scared does the media have to have you for you to make an ignorant comment like that?
August 25th, 2020 at 3:56 PM ^
Where I live Little League has been shut down due to positive cases.
Everything you’ve said in this thread shows who’s really ignorant.
August 25th, 2020 at 3:57 PM ^
Where is that exactly? I would be interested in learning more.
August 25th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
Here in Michigan. And seasons are being canceled all over the country, so you’re wrong. Do a search before you argue something.
