Ummm, you're just listing out things that are football related. If family is so important to you, then you would do anything to protect your parents and grandparents from the pandemic. Saturday family gatherings watching OSU won't be as special if a family member isn't there because they got sick from Covid. If you haven't noticed, our families and communities have been ravaged by this pandemic. What is the difference between here and Europe? Europe took it seriously and wore masks, quarantined properly. We can't convince people to even wear a mask here. That is why we can't have a football season.

These two examples do not speak for the entire US but I really don't think this line of thinking from old people is uncommon.

1) My wife has a grandmother that will turn 99 in early September. My wife's brother is a MD and is her doctor.  Back around May, the grandmother asked my wife's brother... You know that virus thing going around killing a lot of people?  He said yes grandma, what about it?  She asked, How do I get that?  I want to get it and maybe it will kill me.

She is very alert mentally but the last few years have been rough on her body and she needs constant care / assistance at home.  We just found out last week that her nurse, who is there about 6 hours per day, got sick and was confirmed with covid.  Nurse is fine thankfully and wouldn't you know it, the 98 year old grandma did not get it and is still trucking along!

2) I just received a call from my sister tonight.  She found my 82 year old father on the floor in his house not able to get up.  They took him to the hospital by ambulance and we are still waiting on tests to come back.  My dad is forced to be there by himself because no family members are allowed in due to covid, even though he lives in rural western PA with virtually zero covid cases.

He is alert now but the only way we have been able to communicate with him has been thru the nurse by phone.  She shared with us that my dad thinks its outrageous that his family cannot see him and that he is pissed off.  He said he is old enough that if covid kills him, he is fine with it.  The nurse chuckled a little but I can understand where he is coming from.  It is terrible that at least one family member is not allowed to be there to support him.

I don't agree with much of the buckeye's logic but I don't think this line of thinking is uncommon for old people.

Thank you sir.  We still don't know what caused the event but per the nurse this AM, he is alert and gaining strength.  They are still testing.  It is just very frustrating that my sister cannot go in with him.  It is always frustrating for me though because I am 3 states away.

No one denied that many people might have these thoughts or desires. But we are not in the position to make that decision for them. If they want to go out and expose themselves, they are free to do so. But we have a responsibility towards others who might not feel this way. We can't use anecdotal evidence to justify our desires to entertain ourselves...

Based on all recent reporting, there will probably be an approved vaccine by early next year. That means the vulnerable populations within the US will probably be vaccinated by next summer if they take the vaccine. It's extremely unlikely that people are going to spend multiple years afraid and isolated. Suck it up and do the right thing during this temporary international crisis. Your parents and grandparents will have zero years left if they choke to death on lung fluid like my close friend's otherwise healthy 60-year-old father did.

You can play tripoli or Monopoly or start a family movie afternoon. There is no reason for kids to put their future health, and others, at risk for a three hours entertainment. What you do before or after the game have nothing to do with the game other than that you need something to discuss with these family and friends. If you are droll and cannot substitute conversation or feel like you need to hang with large amounts of people to feel alive, go do that—but spare us the necessity of needing these young men to play a game in order for you to have some sense of “fun.”

So, and I’m not arguing with you (God knows that we’ve been on polar opposites of this thing), but maybe it’s really catchy, has a low mortality rate, but also has a plethora of fucked up effects. I can get on board with something like this.  It makes sense. And this is coming from an anti-masker.

I am an Ohio State fan. The B1G is the only conference I care about.

Again, every sport in the entire world is safe but somehow in the B1G it is not, because...politics. That is not to say a certain political leaning, but it is clear this isn't about the safety of athletes more so the fear of liability and the optics.

The sad part is the players want to play and coaches want to coach.

It is sad that the B1G Presidents and Warren took that away from the athletes and coaches. It is equally as sad you aren't as angered as the athletes we support.

If it somehow comes out that this was a conference conspiracy around politics then I will renounce my Michigan fandom. I won’t support something that pulled a stunt like that.

But in reality, the chances of you being right are about as good as Sir Yacht.

Wolverine - I am not talking about any kind of agenda. Just a group of people who are more afraid of liability lawsuits and the optics of playing a season during a pandemic. Please don't take that comment as some conspiracy theory against any kind of politician or political party.

It is obvious the B1G wanted to be the smartest in the room.

Is it mostly about the $ - yes.  The B1G university presidents decided to sacrifice the fall season (and possibly any 2020 season) in lieu of a potential decade's worth of lawsuits.

Do I think that the B1G and Pac 12 are more risk averse with regards to the students' health as well, yeah probably, considering it has institutions such as Stanford, Berkley, Northwestern, and Michigan - top 25 universities still hanging on to the "student-athlete" model.

So yeah, it's probably mostly about $$$, but I do think there is also a huge cultural difference between the conferences - and this weighed on the decisions from the presidents of the universities as well.

If you believe OSU should be in the SEC for football factory, I completely agree.

Colorado - I honestly haven't seen any other Ohio State fans on here but I've only been active on two forum topics. I don't know why I am spending time on here to be honest but I think I'm just astonished by the lack of pride I see here. I just never thought I would see the day when college football is taken away from the B1G for no other reason than politics and fans of a powerhouse program like Michigan are just like "shrug, it's over, find a hobby". I guess it angers me that Michigan of new isn't the Michigan I grew up hating.

"never thought I would see the day when college football is taken away from the B1G for no other reason than politics"

What do you expect in a Presidential election year?

/s included because otherwise I'd bet you thought I was serious.

We take pride in UM as an institution of higher learning first.  Sports are an awesome  representative for the school, but they do not define the institution.  We will all miss football - it has been my fall Saturdays since freshman year of college.

Amateurism in college sports is just one of the many structural issues in society to be exposed by Covid.  It is not the most important issue, but the farce that is big revenue college sports, the NCAA, unpaid athletes, etc is glaringly obvious.

Again, OSU should petition to join football factory SEC, as it is probably a better cultural fit there.

Well, if its any consolation - I hate your guts more than ever. "No other reason than politics"??  Fuck off with this shit.

I agree - "find a hobby". If you can't connect with your ignorant-ass Buckeye family without football, maybe you guys can spend the fall reading books or studying how infectious diseases work.

I brought this up in the Alabama covid thread...LOTS of Buckeyes on here lately, feels like they want to get the masses on their side.

Like you said, its over, move on...nothing you say/do will change anything.  But by all means keep petitioning in-front of an empty B1G building and see what happens, but then complain of low turnout to said petition DUE TO COVID.  Ooof

We get it you guys got a squad, recruiting at remarkable levels, beating us up on the reg, could've been a big year for you guys...yaup we all know. So whats the other motives of all these buckeyes on a rivals blog?  (cold day in hell if i ever create a login for 11warriors)
