Lawyer Tom Mars Representing Green Family - Released Statement That Gemon Sustained a Concussion

Submitted by Maizinator on October 31st, 2022 at 4:43 PM

Sorry for more threads on this but this seemed important enough to start a new thread.  I have not seen it reported that Green suffered a concussion, which obviously is concerning for Green and his family.

Mars stated via text message, “When college football players brutally attack a member of the opposing team with their helmets, resulting in the player suffering a concussion and other injuries, an apology won’t suffice. There has to be severe consequences for this kind of misconduct. Not only does Gemon Green deserve to be compensated for his injuries. Severe consequences in this case will deter others who might think they can get away with brutally beating an opposing player and only get a slap on the wrist. I’ve got news for the MSU players who did this to Gemon. They are going to feel the full wrath of the law.”

Green family is not messing around.

Not to get on a soapbox, but honestly, why does anyone care what Valenti or Comp or any other of these bad faith actors say? They're not moving off their dumbass opinions. If they didn't have a dumbass opinion it'd be a first anyways. There are a billion people who say stupid ass crap every day. None of them get to occupy any space in my head.

Speak out. Pressure the people who make decisions. Have an opinion and be fierce. IDGAF what bad faith actors who profiteer off of speaking only to their constituencies say... in any forum, sports or not.

I guess in this situation I was more talking about pressuring the Big Ten, and maybe to a lesser extent the Spartan Athletic Dept (not sure how effective that will be).  But really, I wasn't directing my soapbox at you. Just generally to people. I've heard a lot about "Comp said" or "Valenti this" since Saturday night. They're bad faith actors in a play where they have a vested interest to paint a biased picture.

As for getting someone like Valenti fired... you're right, pressuring a broadcast station/network alone wont do anything. The only thing I can say there is, the less you care about what they say, the less you talk about what they say, the less reverberation their voices have. They want you to care about their bullshit take. Someone like that doesnt speak to be accurate, but to be heard, speaks loudly and without conscience. TL:DR if Mike Valenti falls in the woods and nobody gives a shit, will he make a sound?  I say no.

Why does anyone care? Because it's part of the culture that led to this incident in the first place. You think the people who hired Tucker don't listen to Valenti and don't think their program is "normal" because of what he says? I guess I don't get why every one of these threads has to have a comment like this. It matters. The tunnel incident is a symptom of the culture. Valenti and Rico Beard are a symptom of the same culture. It should be discussed as long as we have a place to discuss it.

Really hope some of these Staee slappies didn’t procreate.  God help their kids.

1.  Using a helmet as a deadly weapon and giving someone a concussion is not a “nothing burger”.   Allegedly breaking someone’s nose is not a “nothing burger”.

2. Using helmets as a deadly weapon is not “something you haven’t seen countless times in football scuffles”.

There’s a reason we consider MSU a subpar academic institution   You displayed it perfectly.  I hope they sue your POS University for every nickel you got.

”Just insane that these two short scuffles made national headlines. Like this was some major brawl or assault. These were nothing burgers. The helmet swinging wasn’t good but it’s not something you haven’t seen countless times in football scuffles.

This minor stuff is what the local media and Michigan smeared MSU with all weekend. Almost nothing”

Damn. Hate to hear that for Gemon. Hoping for a full recovery for him and all the support in the world during what is undoubtedly a difficult time for him and his family. Great work by his family for lawyering up and great statement by Mars. Next time Gemon is on the field in the Big House (which will hopefully be this year for either Nebraska or Illinois), he gets a long, standing ovation for all he has had to endure, both physically and mentally.

Someone on Reddit pointed out in one of the on field videos just before the incident in the tunnel you can see his twin German appear to be trying to find him. I guess they usually find each other and go back to the locker room together. All of these muppets out there claiming this is no big deal I think are going to find out in the long run that yes it was.

gb, I'm neither a doctor, nor do I stay at a "Holiday Inn Express"; however, my view is that it is rare to have an individual complete a concussion protocol and return to full contact football within a week.  It may be possible.

To the more serious aspect of this - wishing Gemon a complete recovery.

Ehhhh. I've had quite a few concussions (5) from mma and muay Thai, and none of those times did I want to put myself in a position where I might get hit in the head again before a few weeks were up. The symptoms can linger for months.

I hope he's sitting out the next week at least. I'm just hoping he'll be back for Illinois, but even that could be optimistic.

Thank you for this thread! I like the..."They are going to feel the full wrath of the law."

Can you say wake up call? I hope this will start to change the horrible culture over at MSU. It really needs a house cleaning.

I wonder if any of the MSU coaching staff will bear some responsibility.

That is very unlikely. The university has sovereign immunity, and can be sued for very limited reasona. Intentional acts such as the ambush are not one of those reasons.

There is a federal statute that Mars could use, but he would have to prove that the university has a policy of assaulting others.

the good news is that Michigan would also be immune and not subject to liability.
