Lawyer Tom Mars Representing Green Family - Released Statement That Gemon Sustained a Concussion

Submitted by Maizinator on October 31st, 2022 at 4:43 PM

Sorry for more threads on this but this seemed important enough to start a new thread.  I have not seen it reported that Green suffered a concussion, which obviously is concerning for Green and his family.

Mars stated via text message, “When college football players brutally attack a member of the opposing team with their helmets, resulting in the player suffering a concussion and other injuries, an apology won’t suffice. There has to be severe consequences for this kind of misconduct. Not only does Gemon Green deserve to be compensated for his injuries. Severe consequences in this case will deter others who might think they can get away with brutally beating an opposing player and only get a slap on the wrist. I’ve got news for the MSU players who did this to Gemon. They are going to feel the full wrath of the law.”

Green family is not messing around.

As for the players all being transfers--it might be simply that they went through some sort of onboarding together and have become friends.  So they'd naturally be chatting, walking up the tunnel, swinging helmets together etc.  That common ground could put them all in proximity to the criminal proceedings, anyway,.

So those dickheads actually did cost a UM player  gametime with their attack. Only silver lining is it's Rutgers, I would be even more pissed than I already am if UM was down a Db against a OSU type team because of MSU committing criminal acts. But seriously causing a literal brain injury to someone and  some MSU slappies still don't want them to be accountable for their actions. Hope Green is back after Rutgers and doesn't have any long term damage since that is always a possibility with concussions.

I was not downplaying Green's injury and the silver lining is more for Green and UM if he is fortunate enough to be recover quickly as Wilson did from his earlier this year. If that happens and he misses a game Rutgers is definitely one you can afford his absence. Though in no way shape or form would  Green recovering quickly absolve MSU from their responsibility in causing someone a brain injury.

I doubt the journalists who keep referring to this as a "scuffle" will understand this, but Mars isn't going to take a simple case between two individuals, especially when the accused is likely a college student. He's going after MSU. And it won't be cheap. If the name is familiar, he's why Justin Fields ended up at OSU.

Hope he rests a bit. Know this isn't how they normally happen, but regardless I'd really like to see people stop playing the week after they get a concussion generally. It is nearly impossible to tell how serious each concussion is, and a second one too soon after a first can have very serious long term consequences.

Losing our starting corner is not minor. I wish all the best in his recovery. This is systemic as their fanbase will rally to excuse and minimize as always. What an insecure miserable existence.

Glad to see this. Should help put pressure on anybody who needs it to take this situation seriously. There seems to be a larger than I would have expected amount of media going the ho hum this is football route. Don’t even get me started on all of the talk about the one tunnel. That’s a clear deflection of reality and an attempt to avoid any repercussions or embarrassment. This situation has reminded of just how cognitively dissonant we all can be. This could be HD video accompanied by notarized documents of aliens officially landing and people would still twist themselves into a pretzel to find a way to discredit it.

Those MSU players had better lawyer up. At this point, getting suspended from the team is the least of their concerns.

That last line should make them terrified down to their very bones.

He looked so tough (or so he thought) leading them out of that same tunnel onto the field where they chose not confront Michigan football players until they could later surround one who was injured and not wearing equipment and then another en route to see a Trucker family member (Dad who drove all the way for a brief visit) and had no helmet on because he was no longer on the field (hence, safe under NCAA rules). Maybe remedial queuing lessons are in order so Michigan players could finally (and perhaps happily) enter their own locker.

Hiring Mars for this means the big guns are coming out based on his resume.  I hope every single one of those douchebags pay with their futures.  Even massive talent doesn't beget teams looking over egregious shit like this.

Just ask Miles Bridges.  Another model Sparty douchebag!

I was thinking along the same lines. Watching Mel on the sidelines - it’s clear his MO in anything Michigan is anger which is a step away from violence. People have a right to be angry if they choose but these types of outcomes are the direct results. And anger is the enabler that leads to violence by his players. His apology and principles cited are pure BS if you replay his demeanour on the sidelines and thus the culture he continues and creates. Dantanio was not really any different but way more subtle. He was also an angry man when it came to Michigan and condoned behaviour that went over the line in theMichigan interactions. Ironically that worked for Dantanio (until it didn’t) and it’s clear that Mel has adapted that MO as a way to equalize performance vs M. And it’s had its success on the field.

How did Harbaugh respond to Tucker? When the game was out Of hand he tried to complete long passes on the Sparty secondary. What does that tell you about his level of disrespect for Tucker? When did you last see that against any opponent from Harbaugh? The culture of anger arguably is a direct result causing this tunnel event. Going forward I expect a coordinated and sustained response from Michigan in the media, with the B1G. And the results won’t be limited to MFB.

my take is also there are likely M guys suggesting this legal response to the Green family. Expect to get full support of the M AD for the outside lawyers. It will be interesting if the new M president will be visible in this matter - clearly he will be in it behind the scenes.  Sparty has no problem with this behaviour as you can look back at their treatment of over the line mfb and mbb issues over the past decades. The selection of their next president will tell you a lot.

As with the Nasser case and Anderson at M these universities do understand $100 million plus dollar liabilities and negative national press. Some don’t understand  or more likely don’t care that angry people create an unacceptable culture and I fully expect this legal effort could / will get to be very significant in profile. I think you can see from both Harbaugh and Manual they won’t let this one slide by and it will be interesting to see if they indirectly call out this culture of anger that both Dantanio and now apparently Tucker promote.

It is different , in my opinion, at Ohio State.I had the chance 10 years ago to work with the Ohio State business school in a new MBA program a friend of mine was putting together. Over about a 5 year period I guest lectured in my business specialty and help create the cirriculum for the program. As a grad from that school up north I was teased a little but had ZERO negative interaction from faculty, students or any other party in my interactions. The difference at MSU - there are a lot of angry people (faculty, students, fans etc)  who resent what Michigan has - and have made it their personal value to hate the university and thus condone behaviour that many times is over the acceptable line. Yes some fans are in that category of “the worst” but you will find that everywhere. It is instutionalized at MSU

It’s interesting the national media types have mostly played it down so far we shall see if it continues as a national thing or a regional thing.

Mars doesn’t play around. A couple of these guys are in trouble for life. Life altering choices they made. Mars wants to make sure this case is big enough to ensure nothing like this happens ever again.

It’ll plea to misdemeanor assault but yes, it’s aggravated battery/assault (felony) in most states, including MI, to strike someone in the head with a weapon. Possibly even attempted murder tbh. But it’ll plea to misdemeanor assault and probation, if anything. Gotta love the legal system.

Oh no it won't. The repercussions here will be extensive and very, very expensive not only for the direct perpetrators but also for the administrative personnel, coaches and the institution(s) involved. MSU, Tucker and involved administrative personnel may have insurances to assist them here but the individual perpetrators are going to have hell to pay. This is how these cases actually play out. There is not a court or jury anywhere that will not bring a very large hammer down in this matter. I am quite sure that there will be many millions of dollars awarded here.
