Kinda OT: Iowa's HC tossed from game

Submitted by NFG on
If you are not watching the game on BTN between Wisconsin and Iowa, you should. However, the refs are making a mockery of themselves helping Wisconsin crawl back from a 11 point deficit. Needless to say, Coach Fran went ape shit on the refs during the media time out. I hate Wisconsin basketball.

Fran has a short fuse, it's funny seeing him melt down. He threw/slammed a chair last year vs MSU, and he's had a few good tantrums against us as well.

That said, fuck Wisconsin.

Totally understand Mccaffrey's reaction. Some of these guys are more concerned with air-time than not being noticed and calling a fair game. Then in other instances like tonight you wonder if the home crowd gets to them or if they really just have no integrity. Is it just this bad in the Big Ten or is it an entire NCAA problem what are your opinions?

But it's true that there is a certain pool of NCAA refs who are based in the Midwest and thus call a lot of B1G games, because the NCAA tries to cut down on travel time for them.  There are some NCAA refs (based in other regions of the country) that we pretty much never get, while we get TV Ted Valentine like 8 times a year.

What makes me made as that Wisconsin gets extreemly lucky every year, and this year is no different. The only play Osu and msu ONCE each, and BOTH of those are home games. How is that even remotely fair? God I hate wisconsin basketball.

Seed, then tournament result.

  • 2002: 8/2nd round
  • 2003: 5/sweet 16
  • 2004: 6/second round
  • 2005: 6/elite 8
  • 2006: 9/first round
  • 2007: 2/second round
  • 2008: 3/sweet 16
  • 2009: 12/second round
  • 2010: 4/second round
  • 2011: 4/sweet 16
  • 2012: 4/sweet 16
  • 2013: 5/second round

They've outperformed their seeding three times (2003, 2005, 2009), underperformed it twoce (2007. 2010). If seeds had held they'd have gone 16-12; they've gone 17-12.

I don't know where this tournament crash-and-burn meme came from, but it's bull.

I wasn't going to give Ryan credit for Bennett's success, and it's also true that they really did have more than their share of crashes in those years.

What's been remarkable under Ryan--well, aside from the fact that they always get in--is that they so often do exactly what you'd expect. No first-round disasters; no unexpected runs. He's the ultimate low-variance coach.

Sure glad they instituted those new, tough hand-checking rules.  They've really clamped down on Wisconsin and forced them to play clean for once.

Edit: Just watched the video of the ejection and I LOVE it.  It drives me crazy when teams get fucked year after year after year in Wisconsin & Indiana by the officials and the coaches are suppose to just there quietly and take it while the game is stolen from them.  Good for Fran for having the balls to take a stand and let those refs know that if they're going to do their typical give the game to Wisconsin bullshit (cause we wouldnt want to upset those Wisconsin fans) then he's going to let them have it.  And the two calls that made him lose it were typical homer nonsense.

threw a chair down on the floor at the Breslin Center a couple years ago, put a dent in it.  Problem was I was one of the few people who saw it and realized what it did.  For the rest of the year State had a little section of wood that didn't match the rest of the  floor.

1.  I understand Fran's anger.  I don't condone it, but I understand it.

2.  Geeze, both of those teams are good.  I'm really impressed with Iowa who has a couple of beasts and Marble.

Not to hijak the thread, but Arkansas State had a cool trick play on the drive just before the end of the half.  The OL was standing up and had a tiny running back crouching down behind them so as to not bee seen.

It's funny, over on one of the better Utah Jazz blogs, SLC Dunk, the only thing the fans wish Burke would do more of is draw contact in the lane. I said "Yea, watch a Wisconsin game and you'll see why he doesn't." I had a poster reply with something like "Holy s**t, I'd never watched Wisconsin before. How do they get away with that?"
