Time to go after Kentucky recruits

That's about as mediocre a hire as you can make.

Stoops will feel right at home in College Station. Aggie fans are already used to going 7-5.

The rumors earlier today were Day or Dabo possibly being A&M's next head coach, so this seems like a hire out of the corns of left field.

I wonder if the Smith twins would be a take if they were to reflip to Michigan?  Michigan is in a numbers crunch with the 2024 recruiting class, and it seems like Patterson (Miami of FL commit), Blair, Warren (EDGE committed to Kansas) are interested in Michigan just as Michigan is in them.  If Blair flipped to Michigan he would count in the 2026, but there are still other options besides the Smiths.

Only dude I’d want is the CB Nichols all those DL have locker room cancer vibes.  It was reported by same that after the flip that M had no interest in the smith twins and stopped contacting them.  Robinson dad is and issue and why he hasn’t gotten an ohio offer probably follows the bag to gigem if he asked.

What Stoops did at Kentucky is roughly on par with what Mullen did at Mississippi State and what Franklin did at Vanderbilt. So yeah, it probably doesn't necessarily tell us whether it's a good hire or not.

I do think it's a hire that's gonna annoy some Aggies because of how low-profile it is. There's probably people who think you could have given Jimbo another shot if you're gonna hire Mark Stoops as his replacement.

Guy could never manage fewer than two division losses in the SEC East. Never won more than 9 overall in the regular season. Got to 10 twice after bowl wins. In a conference that basically sets you up for 3-4 guaranteed wins he was still only averaging 6 wins a season. This is a mediocre hire.

Good hire for them. Stoops is a good coach and did well with Kentucky. Who knows if he'll be successful since Jimbo did pretty damn good with FSU prior to A&M.

My Aggie engineering school son is not happy. Most of the students and players at A&M are underwhelmed by the Stoops hire.

Edit: My son is worried about lots of transfers out of the program,

It's a safe hire, I guess, even if it is uninspiring for 12th Men everywhere. He's competent enough, but also old and probably stuck in his ways, which are things they hated about Fisher. He isn't a guy that has you thinking, "Hey, give this guy more resources and sky is the limit." He'll continue to be an 8-4 type coach for Gig 'Em Nation.

Matt Jones is the guy for UK sports, so if he's saying it then it's almost assuredly true.

I mean, what in the actual fuck is going on here? That is not an exciting hire. I can’t imagine the oil barons that shelled out $75 mill are going to blown away by the 2nd best coach in Kentucky…
