Justin Rogers to Kentucky

5 star Guard to the SEC.  I wouldn’t be shocked if this commitment ends up being temporary by signing day

I don’t know it’s a much that he was lost to KY as it is that he wasn’t being recruited as hard as some others.  UM, OSU and others seemed to cool on him throughout his recruitment.  If UM wants him they should be able to flip him, I just don’t know if they want him that bad at this time.   This is actually a pretty good article about the family’s perspective and reads like their feelings were hurt about Justin not being a higher priority to UM

Probably based his decision on playing time. Oak Park football where he plays is about middle school level in Georgia and Louisiana so he would probably be sitting for a while. Michigan recruits well so he would have been competing against players from states where high school ball is good. The level of competition a kid plays against really matters when they go to D1  to play and quite frankly, high school football in Michigan is not very good. Brandon Peters is a great example having played in Indiana which is horrible

Went over to get the reaction from one of the Buckeye boards and they seem to think that one of the reasons for his commitment to UK is that he wants to play DT and most of the big boys that were recruiting him wanted him as an OL. Maybe we were taking the same stance ?

He seems to have so much potential that almost everyone would take him and hope he gets his head screwed on straight. MLive has an article about him that mentions his interest in playing DL. It also says that's where Marquan McCall played for Kentucky last year.

I think that's selection bias and you're not doing statistics right.

Look at Dylan McCaffrey. Colorado is absolutely NOT a high school football hotbed. In terms of blue chip talent, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois are all well ahead of CO. If they're so bad at football, why is Dylan McCaffrey expected to be so good? Why did we have so many players from Florida and Georgia not pan out? What about all these star players from Michigan who DID pan out?

In another set of rankings, Colorado ranks 26 out of 38 states which produced 5 star talent from 2010 to 2016. Behind #20 Michigan and #17 Indiana.

Finally, some dude on reddit did a ranking of states by talent per capita.

#13 Michigan

#16 Iowa

#26 Indiana

#28 Illinois

#32 Colorado

Rogers is the #1 guard in the country right now.

You know these elite recruits compete in camps against other elite recruits around the country. Scouts get to watch and then rank them

Come on man. Are you speaking relative to how they used to recruit, or what? In the past 5 years they haven't had a class ranked higher than 30 in the country. If he is one of the best, they definitely paid a little something to get Rogers. After everything that has gone on in college sports lately, you think that's a weak take?

De-pants?  They won by 3 pts.  Yes they got up big in the 3rd quarter, but PSU came back quickly in the 4th.  It was a 6 pt game with 9 minutes left, and a 3 pt game with 4 minutes left.  PSU outgained UK 407 to 297, but had 2 turnovers.  They also had a FG blocked.  And UK had a 58 yard punt return TD.

They also had a massive, massive edge in motivation - that was UK's best season in 40 years.  10 wins and a New Year's Day win against Penn State was the uber Super Bowl for them.  PSU not so much.  I've come to believe motivation for bowl games does play a large role.

A lot of the people at Bama, OSU, Clemson, or Oklahoma I'm sure are receiving extra benefits.

But if a kid chooses them over Michigan, it's not shocking based on a success level. All those schools could offer no money to the kid and you could easily argue how it is a better option than Michigan.

But Kentucky? Most schools in the SEC are running wild with bags. It's really not a ridiculous assumption

He can sense that Harbaugh is overrated.

No championships. Owned by Meyer. He got lucky twice against Dantonio. His success at Stanford and SF was extremely flukish.

And I'm sure he doesn't want to be committed to a team that will be lucky if they make a bowl this year.

Not surprising.  It does feel a bit random; he didn't just shun UM but also MSU and OSU, who apparently made strong plays for him.  Weird recruitment.
