Are you familiar with the Christian concept of redemption  preceded by confessing your sins (Freeze’s sins were quite public)  and asking for forgiveness?  That would be Liberty’s response to your comments.  You know, they hired a man who screwed up royally and publicly, and gave him a chance at redemption.  Seems to me that they are practicing exactly what they preach in terms of “moral high ground” whether you agree with their assessment of Freeze or not.

eh... yes and no?

Whatever you want to say about Roger Goodell I am 100% in agreement with because he's a terrible stooge and it's actually kind of his job to eat shit sandwiches for the others.

However, I personally don't think 'pussy' is a good pejorative to use because of the obviously sexist connotations and I'm working on deleting that from my vocabulary.  It's part of casual vernacular so I want to be clear I'm not accusing you or anyone else here of being actively sexist.  But to me it's a dated term that I don't think most people would use in front of women colleagues....and also doesn't really make sense to use as a term of disparagement, especially given the collective time most of us have probably devoted towards it.

Boomer dudes really are the biggest goofballs. How many of them will get canned before they realize work email isn't the place for drunken stream of consciousness rants to your buddies.

Many of us have, and do...  You can't generalize an entire group based on one specific indication.

Except for millennials.  We know they are lazy and don't do anything for themselves.

(In case your sensitive sensitivities were hurt, that is what's called sarcasm...)

It's kinda' funny, your comment, because you guys (admittedly, I'm immediately grouping you as a millennial despite not knowing a thing about you) cry and whine and complain bitterly about being lumped with others of your age set when called lazy do-nothings looking for handouts.  But here you are lumping all people from another age set into a single group stereotype.

Lets both just agree that your statement, and my line about millennials, are both wrong...

Gruden has a .500 record as a head coach. He won his super bowl with Tony Dungy’s team.  He   ‘s had good years, but I don’t get the Gruden is a genius stuff.

His opinions suck and commentary is offensive, so nobody will shed a tear for him.

But this was not about offensive views or commentary, but was such an obvious hit job by the NFL per Goodell, leaking this info not out of principle but spite for crapping on Goodell.

These are private emails part of an unrelated investigation into sexual harassment by the Washington football team, and Gruden's commentary shitting on Goodell is what sunk him - not his racism, misogyny or homophobia.

Furthermore, he got fired because it was in writing and got discovered. The emails are now out there for all to see. I'm willing to bet a good number of NFL coaches and executives, not to mention players, have said fireable things along these lines in their private homes, offices, and airplanes. But as long as it can't be publicized the way these comments were, nothing happens to them.

8-figure net worth guy (Gruden) crapped on 9-figure net worth guy (Goodell), and 9-figure net worth guy got his revenge.

But let's not forget the other guy in this equation.  10-figure net worth guy (Dan Snyder).

In the end, this story really boils down to this: (1) Gruden wasn't smart enough not to antagonize the guy sitting above him in the wealth pyramid, while (2) Goodell is/was smart enough.

Great point....Snyder getting no pushback or criticism here when his organization was essentially trafficking cheerleaders as a porn / escort service and - is actually the origin of the entire investigation.

Gruden being a brute Neanderthal makes him the perfect fall guy for the entire scandal to get swept under the rug / make the NFL look proactive on social issues.

I mean, Gruden was also sending around topless photos of WFT cheerleaders that, I assume, he didn't have permission to have.  So while Goodell probably didn't shed a tear for Gruden getting dumped, let's not act like he was some innocent bystander.  Honestly, that's a fireable offense in any workplace in the country.

if orgeron can hold on for one more season (he won’t), gruden would be a mortal lock in 2023.  scott woodward only goes after big names, and LSU in general gives zero shits about what people think.

will wade, kim mulkey, jon gruden.

I've seen commenters -- maybe here, but definitely elsewhere -- outraged that Gruden was fired as a sign of the dominance of the "liberal/progressive media" and the hyper-sensitivity that is apparently rampant "nowadays."

And I just thought ... I mean, forgetting about the "optics" of it, you think he's got a lot of respect in that Raiders locker-room right now? You think any of those players are excited to go to battle for that coach? I think the Raiders had to find a way to let him go -- how could they possibly suspend a player for misconduct down the road if they tolerated this, and imagine the distraction that would come from every question in every post-game (or, hell, pre-game) interview being about this? It would be a clown show.

As for the fact that we haven't seen Dan Snyder-related emails come to light: just because nobody's leaked them to the media yet doesn't mean that won't happen. Plus, I get the sense Snyder is less likely to use that kind of "colorful" language than Gruden, so his emails are only likely to be part of the puzzle. But I guarantee you the NFL wants him gone. They won't officially publish his emails, of course -- why open yourself up to possible litigation -- but as another brick in the wall to help them ease him out, absolutely.

Yeah, you can't have your HC on record using racist, homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic language over many years, especially when Carl Nassib is on your team and is openly gay, and expect that to go over well.  Yes, those words and terms are thrown around in locker rooms, online, on the field, etc.  But if you get caught saying them you get penalized and acting like it's some overreach of cancel culture is insane.  I mean, go call someone else in your organization some of the terms used by Gruden and see what happens.

The Raiders had to get rid of him and while I'm sure Gruden will get "redemption" in a year or two after some mealy-mouthed apology tour and be back on our TVs or radio, he deserved to be fired here.
