Joel Klatt recap of The Game
Solid recap as always - but his recounting of the crowd's reaction to Zak Zinter's injury (starts ~ 32:00 in) is very compelling and is someone cutting onions in here?

Klatt was SLURPING the Buckeyes all game. I am still in disbelief that he thought Wilson's TD was an interception. He was trying way too hard

It was pretty clear for about a week leading up to The Game. Even things like his wardrobe color skewed gray.

With regards to Roman's TD, it was called a TD, and the fact that some people say TD and some say interception tells you it can't be overturned.
November 27th, 2023 at 11:39 AM ^
It wasn't close. He just needed possession across the plane, not to the ground. There's no question it was a TD.

I agree and, I'm not sure anyone else has mentioned this directly, the 'tie' goes to the receiver if you want to argue that both players had hands on the ball when RW goes down in the endzone. Maybe I'm dumb but that seems like the extension and only logical conclusion of this.
Also, who cares. WE. FUCKING. WON.

I thought Roman's touchdown and Fleming's catch/fumble were both called correctly, for the same reasons.
November 27th, 2023 at 12:11 PM ^
Yeah - Both of those calls came down to a judgement of whether the ball was secure long enough to be ruled a catch. In both cases, the refs ruled on the "lenient" end of the spectrum. So at least they were consistent in their grading.

Not gonna lie. Officials the last 3 weeks have been great. For all the shit they get for the bad calls just about every call they've made in the last 3 weeks has either been correct or canceled out by an equal call the other way.

Yes. The officiating was consistent, which is about as much as you can ask for. Same thing about the two non-targetings last week

I’ve never heard a crowd so quiet

I was at the game screaming "Let's go Zak" through tears. Klatt is right. Incredible moment.

Anybody get a vid of the “let’s go Zak” chant?

I know I am dying to see this

Joel and Gus have, in the past, always seemed to brag a little more on Michigan than the opponent.... I honestly believe that they were told not to sound like Michigan homers, so they went 180 and sounded like buckeye homers for the game.
that's this one guy's opinion.

I'm guessing they'll be a lot friendlier in the BTCG. That'll be a bit of a litmus test.

I'll have to hear it on replay because we'll be in section 159 for the game!
GO BLUE

As always it's all about the $$$. They were told tone it down on UM homerism.

I was seated directly next to Taylor Lewan's father (real cool dude by the way) during the game. He shared that he could relate to the feeling Mr. and Mrs. Zinter were going through. He even said though that it looked like a break and not a knee tear.
What was most amazing was not just that the TD happened on the very next play, but it was sprung by the guys who have played with and known Zach the longest. I'm talking about his partner in crime Keegan, his right hand man Barnhart, and his former right hand man Jones. All carried by the RB who Zinter has blocked for more than any other player.
In the words of (the now infamous) Cade McNamera: "this team is just different"

That was a good recap. I have a lot of respect for Joel.
Not having been in the stadium, I was unaware of the crowd chant for Zak. Pretty amazing.
It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

I was listening to this in the background, so I'll admit my limitations in analyzing the video, but the tone was like, 'three coinflips' that could break either way and Ohio State wins. Instead of 'Johnson is an incredible CB' it's 'McCord should've known better,' &c.
I also find that doubling down on the Wilson TD was weird.
Now it's possible that the game really was a series of coin flips. I'm looking forward to the UFR to confirm. In any case, it certainly wasn't the dominance we saw in previous editions.

I disagree with one part of Klatt's analysis - his wrap up just before shifting to the discussion of Zinter's injury where he states that the game came down to 3 plays (Johnson' interception, Wilson's TD catch, and OSU missing the field goal at the end of the first half). They were each big plays, but I think it requires wild speculation to predict how the game would have gone if any or all of those things had gone differently.
Michigan had a lead for the vast majority of the game and for a big chunk of that was one stop away from building a substantial cushion. Had Michigan fallen behind at any point, they may have approached their next/succeeding possessions differently. And there is absolutely no way to know or reasonably speculate what the outcome would have been. Michigan was the better team, but not nearly by as much as the past two years. Michigan is the better team. And if they were to play again before the end of this year, Michigan would enter that matchup as the better team.

This, I mean I could choose another set of plays. 1)Barrett gets the int. 2)Fleming drops his first down catch that got the Buckeyes away from the end zone, and 3)Roman stays inbounds and Michigan comes up with a first down. If those went the opposite ways its a totally different ballgame. Maybe it's a blowout! I don't agree with his Ryan Day Defense- it was only x bad plays that didn't go our way.
