I don't want a true freshman to start but to say McCarthy lacks "elite physical traits" seems just wrong.

Also, the assumption that UM won't get a transfer QB doesn't seem right; there will undoubtedly be guys leaving teams in the coming weeks and UM could absolutely take a run at one.  Even if it's just a backup, a guy with a couple of years experience never hurts.

Going into 2018 we had: Shea, Peters, Dylan, and Milton. The QB room looked stacked for years to come. Pretty sure no one would have bet on entering spring practice 2021, Cade McNamera would be the leader going into camp.

Guh, makes the McCaffery transfer even harder to take now to be honest. Also, the timing just seems odd, Spring practice starts Monday.

I genuinely liked Milton while recognizing he was still understandably raw; would simultaneously say that the offense flowed better w/ McNamara under center nearly immediately. Perhaps the writing was already on the wall that this was going to be a race between McNamara and McCarthy for the fall?

Dude got his degree from Michigan as a one time starting QB for the maize and blue, then proceeded to get benched, and now he is transferring to continue his pursuit of playing QB somewhere else.

I say...good for him!

Honestly not going to miss him.

Can’t throw a deep ball to save his life. Everything low and flat.

Lacking any touch, he can’t throw a short ball either.

And we lost McCaffrey for that?

I’ll go as far as saying he’ll never be drafted.

Regardless of what you think of Milton's chances on improving as a Qb next year this still sucks for QB depth. Depth is becoming a concern at a couple spots now.

Good for Milton that he graduated so fast and thinks this is the best decision for him.

For the team on the other hand, the QB depth is... uh... well... it's pretty shitty now let's be honest.

I have no idea why people listen to offseason hype. It's nonsense writing by sports reporters eager to get your eyeballs and clicks in the brief windows you are paying attention. The coaches perpetuate this to get those reporters off their back, plus they know some of their guys are motivated by those press clippings.

I don't know why people buy it every year, you would think after about age 20 or so you'd stop paying attention.

I also pay no attention to the incoming freshmen you all think are going to start the minute they step on campus. More than likely if any new players are going to be in the lineup it's going to be last years freshmen you all were hyped about, but have now forgotten.

Milton transferring helps us if we can grab a grad transfer to provide depth. It brings clarity to the hierarchy to the QB room and frees up reps for JJ to stand out.

It hurts us if we can't secure a grad transfer as our depth is a serious issue. McNamara has already gotten knocked out of a game. JJ will likely need some time to acclimate to the speed of the college game and his body might not be ready to take a beating either. Then we would be looking at Villari, which would be pretty scary.

No. I think what we now have is no depth and I know that we can't keep QB's healthy. I also think Milton would have been a dynamic option in certain situations...this is out the friggen window now. I admit I was not in the camp of giving up on Milton and am growing very weary of hoping for transfers year in and year out.

Ugh.

Well, not a huge shock. Milton appeared to get passed by Cade in the Rutgers game, and a blue-chip prospect is coming in. Frankly, upper-level college football teams just do not keep 3 starting-level QBs on their roster, even if they want to. Guys will transfer.

So it's Milton, who had a good chance of being third string next year. I hope he finds a good spot to play; I would guess a G5 role or something, but who knows.

I've never been troubled by the fact that Michigan has had QBs transfer. Harbaugh brings in a QB every year, he does this expecting guys to transfer.

The issue with Michigan's QB room is that the guys that get the starting job aren't very good.

Let's cross our fingers and hope things are different this year.

The writing on the wall was clear. Heard he was always a good teammate, dedicated worker, and to graduate in 3 is impressive. He should be able to land maybe at a smaller school and bolster their room or compete to start.

Thoughts.

- As of now, EVERY QB Harbaugh has signed to a scholarship has transferred out of the program before completing eligibility except Cade McNamara (just completed his second year), Zach Gentry (who converted to TE), and Dan Villari (who, God willing, WILL convert to TE).

- We need a grad transfer QB more than ANYTHING.  Just a dude who already was a backup and won't mind being a backup again.  Otherwise, we'll have 2.5 scholarship QBs on the roster.

You see a lot of guys who up-transfer from programs who are willing to compete for a spot but don't necessarily believe they have to be starters.  And realistically, any guy who comes to UM knows he's competing against a true freshman and a guy with limited playing time experience; even if you're the "backup" its not like you're glued to the bench and won't likely see game time.

I'm going to set my downvote o/u at 15.5

Stats were brought down by a read options on first and second downs, a sieve of a line, and Erick All. He made some impressive throws and had an underrated pocked presence. Check the UFR's.

I absolutely cannot wait for him to set the world on fire. He will be a 1-3 round draft pick with a line and receiver group with more than 2 years of combined starts. I'm excited to see his growth and development. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with a Joe Burrow or Cam Newton arc

I'm more than happy to make a friendly wager.

1) He gets drafted higher than McNamera

2) He gets drafted higher than Throw-DMC

Last time I talked like this was the summer after Tate and Denard's freshman year. I talked about a convo I had that summer and made a prediction that Denard would start over Tate. I think I made it on here and either scout or rivals. Everyone mocked me and gave me the my sisters, husbands, cousins, mailman's.... said'. Two moderators were rough.

Of course I went back and referenced in the fall, the one moderator was like, 'you were right.' the other removed the posts.

Obviously we're 10 years removed, but a broke clock is right twice a decade.
