JJ McCarthy Discussion Thread

Submitted by goblu330 on January 4th, 2023 at 5:30 PM

I know he had two pick sixes, and yes, ouch.  But oooeeee can JJ McCarthy rope the ball when the receiver is there.  For every horrifying moment, there was a moment that would make college-Drew Henson blush.

I really want the Harbaugh saga to end, so one way or another, whoever coaches at Michigan gets the full impact of his final year in college and not let him get away, because my man can throw.

He is going to be really, really good next year.  Better than 06 Henne good, but fast.

I am big JJ fan now and I can’t wait to see the ‘23 version.

Dudes a stud, best QB we've had since Chad, and I think he's better. We lose multiple games without him this year. Yeah, he a made two big mistakes last weekend, but we don't have a chance without him. We get smoked if "the other guy" was playing QB. It was fun to see him sling it around the yard, hopefully we open it up next year. I agree with some that I think he comes back for his 4th year.

We saw stuff in that game from JJ we haven't seen all year. He threw those two pick sixes, but I think a lot of that (not all of it) is on game prep and play-calling. I heard a whole lot of game analysis from all the MGo stuff to Sam to national stuff and I never heard anyone say anything remotely like the best way to attack that defense would be to throw out routes at those CB's. Once he gave up on that and threw it downfield I was quite amazed at what he could do.

We've got pieces, JJ is a big one. The run game too, The defense. The transfer portal. Recruiting guys who want to be here. The preparation for the foes we do know. Where are we lacking?

The only thing I'm concerned with is prepping for the foes we don't know, and of course, playing on grass.

Honestly, the fact that he brushed off the two pick sixes and was straight up dealing downfield for the rest of the game makes me wish we had seen more of that offense all year. Let the kid throw, Jim.

I'm always weary of a QB getting better under Harbaugh during his Michigan regime. Just feels like we continually play risk adverse football where the QB just doesn't feel comfortable with tight throwing lanes and holds the ball just a few secs to long. We can hope it changes but history says we stay risk adverse and the QB spot never gets fully comfortable.

He has already shown he's one of the GREAT Michigan QBs of all time, but the best ever? Time will tell on that one.

I anticipate JJ will be much better next year, and I hope he gets another opportunity to succeed on the biggest stage. Also, I hope that whoever our coach is, that JJ will be allowed to play more freely next year. In many conference games, it was obvious that he was being restricted by play calling, etc.

I thought I was going to read a thread that JJ wrote. I guess not. How do you know JJ will not be here for 2 more years? I'm sure he will have a great season next year, especially if Harbaugh or the new coach will open up the passing game.

You should have expanded on your opinions, delving deep into the thought process that lead you to this mystical conclusion.... then, and only then, this should have been posted as a diary

I'll upvote.  I say screw negs because it seems to be most peoples favorite button. We have 8 months to talk about the next game so its not like anything else is going on unless you want to talk about the NC that Michigan opted out of last weekend.
