Jett gone
Beats 2008 (calendar year) when we were a school school
I'm sure I'll get negged but definitely okay with seeing him go. The team seemed better without him the times he was out this year. Kobe is the difference for this team if he goes next year will be even worse than this I fear.
It’s for the better, IMO. His lack of effort and grit was borderline shocking to me. Oh well.
it may be a tough season next year but who knows 🤷🏻♂️
I miss the good ol' days of "2 and done"...
good luck to the kid, but it feels similar to Iggy, Houstan, Diabate where one more year would benefit them a lot...
Hopefully Kobe's camp sees value in one more year of development.
I guess when you’re a Jett you’re a jet all the way.
Apparently Houston gets the Clippers first-rounder, so he might be a Rocket man.
His handwaving in this clip makes me want to puke, such a backyard ball childish reaction.
"Ugh who's guy is that, why is no one doing anything" While he's freaking almost at the 3 pt line backing up.
The Jett exasperated arm wave is the best part.
I'm okay with this. While he's an excellent 3 point shooter, he offered little else. I think it's much more important to get Kobe back, and hopefully Dickinson as well.
He wasn’t that excellent. His 3P% was 1.3% better than Dug and Kobe and 2.3% worse than Baker.
Whatever. Things get real when Bufkin and Dickinson decide.
Get those two back, with Reed, Dug...find a 4...there is something there
I mean...lol... will he be remembered here at all? I thought he would stay one more year to improve is legacy just a bit, you ARE the son of a Fab Five member...arguably the most famous basketball starting 5 in the history of college basketball.
You came here for a cup of coffee, didnt do much, and made the team worse in a lot of ways...he should've gone to Tennessee, or whatever school he was also looking at, to avoid this part of the story alone
3 years from now Michigan basketball fans are going to look back and say "oh yeah, forgot he came here" ...ouch man, that would eat at me so much if I played for my dad, who is a legendary alum, and have nothing to show for the time.
While I say all that, I get why he is going, 1st round grade...you go. So yeah, this day and age, I get it. Wish him success at the next level.
Not surprised - I wish him well
We'll find a way without him
Well this fees up a scholy; hope we can bring a couple of quality guards through the portal.
Not much of a surprise in my opinion, writing was on the wall quite a while ago. Of course, when you're consistently projected as a 1st round pick, there really isn't much of a decision to make. In all the media I've seen with him, seems like a really nice kid. Wishing him the best of luck, his style/approach is probably a better fit for the NBA anyway. The far more consequential moves remain with Bufkin and Dickinson.
There is another shoe to drop at some point because Juwan was open to Baker and Llewellyn both coming back and we are shopping the portal for a 4 too. We currently have two open spots. Someone else is most likely going pro or portal
Two open scholarships, four open roster spots. You can make up the scholarship with NIL money like they are doing with football.
For what it's worth, Brian has been adamant that scholarship limits no longer apply in basketball due to NIL just as in football. Don't know how accurate that is, but he's said it on a podcast and on WTKA last week I believe.
I know he’s said that but other than Hunter, have we even really heard about other kids getting NIL on the basketball team? Maybe Kobe could but who else? It seems like it’s very prevalent on the football team but not so much on the basketball team
I still don’t understand the concept. Why would I go to Michigan and pay my own way through NIL when I can go to another school get a scholarship and NIL.
That’s what I’m thinking. Unless there are players on the team, like Hunter who can come off scholarship and just do NIL? I don’t know how that works once on scholarship.
Absolutely…it’s a win-win at the other school. I get “hey you can get a 6-figure NIL deal at Michigan” but if someone at USC is offering anything close and you can be on scholarship, most kids are taking the latter.

On a scale from 1-10 how concerned are you that USC is going to snatch up Jace Howard or Gregg Glenn if Michigan takes them off scholarship, but pays for their tuition with NIL money?
NIL or no, basketball ain’t football; you field only five at a time. I don’t think anyone who thinks they’re good wants to fill a 20th roster spot or whatever.
You guys are shitting on Jett but without him Michigan is around a .500 team. He's projected in most mocks around the 15/16 spot. No brainer to leave especially with high schoolers probably set to be draft eligible in 2024.
We were already barely a .500 team
I understand why he would go but I could also see why he could stay and be a better version of the potential they already see in him. I’m not going to shit on the kid but it’s tiring to watch these other tournament teams with 4-6 year players littered throughout their roster. I thought it was bad under Beilein when kids would leave after 2 years.
I'm bummed to see him go and wish him the best, but uh, Michigan WAS around a .500 team WITH him lol...in fact I think their record in games he actually played in was below .500
THEY WERE 18-16 WITH HIM
More "bad luck"
I think alot of us think this is a neutral to good thing.
Good riddance.
He's leaving on a Jett plane.
Don’t know when he’ll be back again.
Y’all got what you wanted
The story I read in the Athletic didn't mention whether he'd hired an agent. Is that "test the waters" process still in effect where you can return to school until you hire an agent?
It is but that letter was a goodbye letter, not a “I’m going to declare and check my options” letter.
Wish I could say it was *all* fun watching the kid. There were some awkward baby steps. He hit some shots. Babyfaced Glenn Rice. Never gelled with Kobe or Dug. Came in with a lot of talent and a matchup nightmare. Didn’t see a lot of development over the year. I have questions about whether him being on the team was a distraction for Juwon and the team. Some kids at 19 need to be away from home. Now he is.
I miss the days of Trey Burke getting pissed about Ohio beating us in the tourney and coming back as a Soph with a vengeance with a junior Timmy Hardaway.
HD is kind of that guy. But I could see him transferring vs staying.
As far as team stars, he’s by himself though. Burke came back with a THJ, Morgan and Horford with dynamite freshmen coming in with Stauskas, Levert, McGary, etc. The 2014 class had a ton of Sophs back with some upper classmen.
And would join Michigan’s best frosh class since the Fab5. GRIII, McGary, LeVert, Stauskus. That team was special.
Nice descriptive post OP.
Any link or are you just guessing, hoping to be 1st post.
Leaving on a Jett plane. Good luck to the young man.
I wish every young adult well… and to pursue their passion in life.. with success.
I’m not an NBA fan - hate “one and done” - and wished there was an enforceable two (or three) year commitment that players would make if they signed with a college / university. (I’m perfectly fine with the NBA drafting players out of high school and letting them play in the G league, or NBA, immediately.)
Good luck to Jett in his future endeavors. It’s hard for me to believe he’s a first round lock - but, what do I know.
I do know this… next year I’ll be rooting for Michigan hoops whenever they take the floor. Go Blue!
Thanks for playing at Michigan Jett.
Good luck in the NBA
Good luck fresh prince.
Adios
