for us at Cass Tech than Wilcher. He's going to be very well known there for a long time. The coaches there are mostly going to be his former assistants. I would expect him to be a top notch recruiter for the area. My only concern would be drop off in their program after he left.

I don't do twitter, but if JKP is tweeting at @WilcherThomas, I doubt that the user with the twitter handle @thomaswilcher is legit. Again, don't do twitter, so maybe I am wrong

there is a photo of a kid with JKP, Cesar Ruiz and Ron Johnson.  Ruiz is something like 6-3 and 315.  Check out RJ in comparison.... He's gigantic for a D End.

I think I related this story several months ago, but it's mildly relevant to the thread so....

I saw Wilcher at my daughter's track meet a couple years ago where his daughter was competing for another school.  I said "hello" to him and you could see the instant dread in his face.  I'm sure he was thinking I was about to accost him about one of his recruits.  When I told him I still remembered the whoopin he laid on me in a HS indoor 60 meter race he completely relaxed and we chatted about our girls for a minute.  Really good dude.

This assumes that whoever steps in as head coach at Cass is also Michigan friendly. Do we know if that's the case? Also, we assume that he's well regarded around Detroit. Is that the case too? I remember when Partidge came over, people said that actually due to his aggressive recruiting tactics that he wasn't well liked in NJ. It's a minor downside if this was the case but as long as he can coach and can ensure a Michigan friendly successor at CT then he's not a bad pick at all.

of his assistants, I would think. It's hard to imagine they would bring in a whole new staff and they would be hostile to Wilcher and Michigan. Rather, I'd expect most of the coaches to be guys who learned under him.

Wilcher was at Cass for a long time. I've never heard anything negative about him from other coaches, despite his success. Any hard feelings weren't aired in public like those towards Partridge.

It would be hard to imagine the coach of Detroit's leading HS program not being Michigan-friendly.  Even if the next coach isn't an ex-Michigan player, we have a natural advantage recruiting there due to proximity.

Having Wilcher there has been nice but I don't know how large of an impact he's really had on recruits' decisions.

And in very hypothetical matters, could this help during the dead periods in recruiting? Let's say there's a big recruit at Cass Tech and it's in the middle of a dead period. Would Wilcher be able to stop in to his old place of employment to see past coworkers and then oh hey, look who I ran into in the halls....

Nope. That would be a recruiting violation. Some contact is allowed if he has a pre-existing relationship (which he does with a lot of the guys currently), but incoming freshmen and guys five years down the road likely wouldn't have that pre-existing connection.

I hate saying this but you cannot win in modern CFB by sticking to the literal rules and unspoken rules of decency. You can't win like you could in the era of endless scholarships and schools practically selling themselves. These days it's almost a game of being the cleanest dirty program out there if you want to win big and be somewhat decent.

Not sure about screwed but this has to have some impact on recruiting. TW is considered to be one of the top recruiters on the staff so he's probably built important relationships with the recruits..and that esp goes for recruits in his position group.

Plus you know other programs are going to try to exploit this to get his attention.
