In one year he really helped spark hope to our program. He’s stuck around for several years in the NFL and has made some good money. At 28, being a former good college QB, spent time in the NFL, and a future doctor is a pretty good place to be.
It is sad looking back to January 1st, 2016 when we dominated Florida and it looked like we were back.

That entire 2nd half of the season he was pure fire. His last 5 games stats in a winged helmet...and 3 of these opponents were @ Penn State, vs osu, and our bowl game against Florida
67% completions
315 passing yards/game
14 passing TDs (1 rushing) to 2 INTs

Yes, he was running the ball quite well on read-option plays those last 5 games. I hope his medical career gets going. All the best to Jake.
I think he has a possible coaching career ahead of him.
His goals may have changed, but he wanted to become a doctor when he was done with the NFL.

I feel like every time a former player comes up in conversation, that player becoming a coach is brought up. Seems like it happens without fail.
Spot on. Everyone of our former players will not automatically either want to be a coach or be a good coach.
He was making $8k a week to be on the practice squad and a prorated portion of $875k for the weeks he was on the roster. His med school is entirely paid for and then some. Best of luck for him.
Hopefully he was able to sock away a good chunk of change for med school!
almost as important, if he played enough to get a partial/full NFL pension
Good Luck to the kid...as mentioned above, that second half of the season was phenomenal.
Lighting up Florida in the bowl game was something I'll remember for a long time

This was my hope for Jake from the day he got drafted. Stick around the NFL for 4-5 years, carry a clipboard and go to meetings, sock away a million dollars or so, and go on medical school with your brain and your knees intact. He executed the game plan perfectly.
We call this the "Todd Collins" around here.
Tod Colins and Jake Ruddock.
And for what? To go be a doctor? Loserrrrr
Love Rudock. He’s an icon for that 2015 season, especially when he dominated Florida.
Couldn't agree with you more. Between the government regulations, politics, dumb-ing down of the selection process, corporate control, and not to mention at least 7+ years of school/residency training, becoming a physician is not as appealing as it once was. Add to that, the malpractice crises, 1/2M in tuition and expenses, and the loss of earnings for those 7+ years has me doing everything possible to encourage all of the kids that I know to go another route.
With over 1.7M in career earnings so far, I would think that he probably has reconsidered those medical plans. Any fellow MGOBloggers know of his current plans?
All those other (legit) concerns about medicine notwithstanding, I would not envy somebody starting residency in their mid-30s. I'm certain there are folks out there who can pull it off, but that could really, really be a slog depending on the program/specialty. Good on him though for having that option if he should choose that route.
7 years with zero QBs in the NFL. Why would any top QB want to pay for this staff? Mayb JJ can break this drought
The only QB Urbz has produced got cut, or is playing TE for him. There are a couple former Texas Tech QBs in the league playing pretty well, however.
Except Urbz produces some of the best QBs in college. Harbaugh does neither. And no one talks about Urbz as a QB guru. But mention Harbaugh and all they drool about is QB play. ironically the worst position since Harbaugh took over in 2015

Meyer (until now) has had or was under zero obligation to build and make his QBs ready for the NFL. His only obligation was to build a QB who could win him a national championship for the university he coached at. And he did that in spades.
If he happened to make them ready for the NFL, that was just an added bonus. But that wasn't his job. His job was to win at the level he coached at. There's been no one better than him, not named Nick Saban, who's been able to do that.
Much as I don’t like it, this is true. It’s also why I don’t care as much about how our OBs do in the NFL. Obviously, I root for them to get drafted and love when they have success because it reflects well on their training at Michigan and boosts recruiting, but the NFL is a different game with a different focus. I want them to win at Michigan.
Good for Rudock. Best wishes for his future.
For a guy who was a grad transfer QB, any career in the NFL is impressive. That Jake hung around as long as he did is quite an accomplishment. Plenty of more ballyhooed college QB’s never accomplish what he did in the pro’s.

Ahhh, Russell Wilson would like to have a word with you.
And John O'Korn would like a word with you.
His projected next stop was to become Dr. Rudock, as I recall, and hopefully, that's exactly what he gets to fulfill. Best of luck to him.
Made some good coin, now has a pension waiting for him at 55 while he explores his second career. Well done.

Did they both retire?

Ddr. Ruddock.
DDoc Ruddock
The right decision for him and now he can pursue coaching, medical school, or whatever other endeavor he wants. His end-of-the-year 2015 run was great to watch.
Still convinced we'd have a natty had he shown up with 1 more year of eligibility. Speight doomed us.
What are you talking about? How was it Wiltons fault he got a bad injury against Iowa? In fact everyone thought we were doomed before we saw him dressed and warming up against OSU. The guy was a warrior that day doing everything he could to get the win that day.
August 2nd, 2021 at 12:14 PM ^
He effectively threw TWO pick sixes and fumbled the ball on the goal line and you're saying it's not his fault? Did you even watch that game?
August 2nd, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
Wilton hardly had a functioning shoulder and still laid it all out there. The pick six was due to a blown block and he was about to get killed. There wasn’t an option to have Rudock in the 2016 game, so your post of just shitting on Wilton is just a dick move. Do you believe Michigan would have been better off playing O’Korn?
I’m really frustrated with how that game ended and a lot of things Michigan related but I’m not going to just trash players, let alone players who were not part of the OP
August 2nd, 2021 at 12:15 PM ^
We nuke OSU into oblivion in that game if Rudock starts. Your take is the ultimate Michigan apologist garbage.
August 2nd, 2021 at 12:28 PM ^
You really think we would've gotten past Deshaun Watson in the semifinals in 2016?
You'll have to forgive me for laughing out loud. The same OSU team that beat us got pasted 31-0 by that Clemson team. We were likely in for a similar result, if not a worse one.
We outplayed OSU by a wide margin in that game and still nearly won despite our QB doing his best to literally throw the game away
So yes, I think we stood a chance
Happy retttttttirement Ruddddddock!
Good luck with medical school, Jake. Go to U of M!

So quiet you'd think he wasn't saying anything to the QBs at all...
August 2nd, 2021 at 12:31 PM ^
Methinks you may be on to something there.
August 2nd, 2021 at 10:12 AM ^
Probably made some good money in the league to start building up a good nest egg. Falling back on his medical career isn't too bad a gig.
Best of luck to him in his future career.

Jake would be a great addition to the Michigan football coaching/analyst staff.
Go Blue.

Single D had a nice little NFL career. He's the best qb of the Harbaugh era. He just somehow managed to get it done in the pocket. Best of luck in doctorhood!
August 2nd, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
Is he the last QB that we had that could consistently hit open receivers downfield? It sure feels like it. Good luck in his next career.
August 2nd, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
Speight was solid with the deep ball.
Yes. 14-7 Wisconsin.
