It isn’t Jim Harbaugh

There isn’t a single player on this team that will put it all on their back.  There is no spiritual leader.   Who is it?   Those who have played team sports know what I am talking about.  Harbaugh can’t force this.

Neg away, but discuss first.

Trickle down effect, my friend.

If you have a boss that doesn’t give a shit, if you have a CEO that doesn’t give a shit, how in the world can you expect your employees to give a shit?

That’s just wrong. I saw up close and personal how Urban Meyer took a Bowling Green team that went 2-9 and literally could not walk and chew gum and turned them into a kick ass team THE NEXT YEAR!

I was working as an athletic trainer. That 2000 team had a starter skip a game to go have sex with some girl...That 2-9 team could not give two shits about playing.

When Meyer changed the culture the next year it all changed. He put a bunch of dudes on probation and wasn’t playing. Suddenly the  guys that had two left feet the year before were kicking ass.

maybe we can chalk it up that harbaugh isn’t Meyer and this is why Meyer is one of the best of all time if that makes you feel better.

I’ve been working in college and pro sports for 16 years and yes the players have a massive responsibility but for college guys the coach makes a monumental difference. This is especially true when there are not natural leaders.

as an FYI I can’t stand Meyer this isn’t some grand endorsement. But the OP’s post wildly misses the mark on how coaches interact with 18-23 year olds.

Urban Meyer, Ryan Day, Pat Fitzgerald, Tom Allen, Mark Dontonini, etc etc ALL beg to differ with you. As a former Navy officer, the only analogy I have is when you run your ship into the ground the Captain is the guy who gets his head chopped off.

The point that its not Harbaugh is most evident in QB play tonight. Milton can't get out of his way, while McNamara has taken the team on his shoulders and has them playing like we expected at seasons start. Who decided the starter? Who has trotted Milton out there game after game hoping it finally clicks when its evident it is not but yet it is with McNamara? Thats on the coach as well as the attitudes and the fact that the players are playing like they don't trust each other, the coaches or both.

It is Harbaugh because he can't motivate these kids.  And he is a TERRIBLE judge of QBs.  Why the fuck did he ever think Milton could play.  McNamara is so much better.

This disaster is all Harbaugh's fault

AND He won't fire Don Brown, who is the worst DC in college football

its strange to me, when michigan was winning in the first few years and playing hard nosed, tough football, they were considered a reflection of their coach...And Harbaugh was, deservedly, praised for transforming Hoke's soft team into a bunch of dudes that were tough to play against...

and now that they are losing, Harbaugh is somehow blameless?

its a non-sensical argument...similar to those who use "Harbaugh didn't fumble the ball" excuse.

Ultimately, the head coach is responsible for everything on and off the field.

That's on the coach. They don't play together. And the D stinks. Lb play is the worst ive seen. Ross and Barrett too small.

Why do we have 3 walk ons and a converted FB on defense?  Forget about the 3 star safety that is a converted WR (Hawkins).  He’s ok, but that’s where we’re at.

We have injuries yes, but our D 2 deep is composed of walk ons and converted offensive players.

the defense is horrendous.

please explain how that isn’t the responsibility of the head coach.

He recruited them. He picked the coaches. He approves the S&C program. He designs the weekly practice schedule. He approves the weekly game plan. He delivers the pre-game speech. He can override any play calls.

All on Harbaugh at this point in year 6.

Have to disagree with you being a former athlete myself. A coach can get you reved up. As a competitive player you want to see a coach holding others accountable and working. The team just looks like there is no accountability from the top.

It’s definitely Harbaugh. This team is undisciplined. They don’t have enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Let alone any enthusiasm at all. They commit false starts by the WR. Average the most penalty yards per game in the B1G. They can’t get the snap down for a fg attempt. They miss a ton of assignments on defense. They have been starting the wrong QB all season. So yeah in a nutshell I would say it’s all Harbaugh's fault. He has completely lost control of the team. Who has it better than us?? Everyone except Penn State...

Every coach these days is so much smarter than Harbaugh... his team plays with no discipline and the defense and offense playcalling is abysmal.

He needs to go, regardless of the outcome of this game

I mean, who made the decision to start Milton tonight? This game is a three-score W if McNamara starts. Meritocracy my ass. Harbaugh and this staff have no idea what they have. If tonight wasn't exhibits A-Z of that, I don't know what is.

Harbaugh doesn't start the QB with the hot hand, then after he puts him in the game does his best to take the game out of said QB's hands in OT, playing not to lose.  His players actually bailed him out at the end.  Blaming the players is a really bad take.

It's on Harbaugh.  100%.
