Interesting Tyler O'Connor Passing Chart

Some of my observations:
-He really favors that left flat. I wonder what schemes we could put in play to nullify that.
-Horrible on 3rd down (sounds good to me).
-Even worse under pressure (sounds good to me).
-Only 4 throw aways on the year seems pretty low, especially with a game against wisconsin.

They only threw the ball 16 times in that game and 12 of them were O'Connor. They ran 51 times for 4.0ypc. O'Connor didn't have to do anything to win that game for them, it was all running and all defense.

Now that O'Connor has to shoulder some of the load, we are seeing what is happening. He is not good.

That game was literally played in a monsoon.  Here in Michigan we got 12 inches of heavy wet snow that day and in Columbus it was all rain.

In those kinds of conditions you have to take the result with a grain of salt.  OSU couldn't attack MSU's weakness (the secondary) and so MSU sold out to stop the run. And for some reason OSU didn't feed Elliot (maybe MSU schemed the reads away from him?).

So O'Connor is best to the left flat, eh?  I seem to recall that area being inhabitated by a Mr Jabrill Peppers.  So, yeah, good luck with that, MSU...

He's not very good, which of course means he'll throw for 400 yards and 3 TDs against UM.  But yeah, the "golden age" of MSU QBs seems to have hit a snag, and if he is really ahead of guys like Terry that doesn't bode well for them unless someone like DeWeaver makes a big leap as a RS freshman.

Now that their season has taken a wrong turn, every minute is being spent in preparation for October 29. Check that; this would be the case even if they were undefeated and ranked #1. Whatever we come up with based on what we've seen so far, it will be totally different on the field.

I might be the minority here but I care about how our opponents / rivals QB is performing right now. I like to know how each team on the schedule is doing.

I understand that a lot can change for MSU over the next 3 Saturday's until we play them but its good to have an idea of what we're walking into leading up to that game. If there is a QB change before October 29th, this chart is insightful as to why.

Great chart.  I imagine many of those to the flat were to Josiah Price the TE.  On short yardage they like to have a WR run slant in and Price cross it by going outside.  A trailing LB or safety can't get through the wash in time to stop a little flare out.  I'd guess if you robber'd that by switching coverage - the CB drop down on Price and the LB/safety take the slant (safety in case he goes deep) - you could have a chance at pick 6.  Especially with pressure, apparently (though that may go without saying for most QBs).  I don't know what I'm talking about, mind you, I just use robber as a term there and not a football term.

I'd guess the others are bubbles?

Man, he is a 5th year player too, so its not like you can expect a ton of improvement in the 8 games he has left in his career. Speight looks rough at times but at least he has two more years of eligibility to correct some of his issues.

On a related note, I'm sure we'd all love to see a similar chart for Speight. I wonder if anyone is up to the challenge.
