Interesting article on Michigan recruiting class

Submitted by Nervous Bird on February 4th, 2021 at 2:29 PM

After looking like a football program in total disarray in 2020, many folks, including myself, was surprised by Coach Harbaugh securing a top 10 recruiting class. The product on the field looked abysmal, the narrative surrounding the coach indicated he was a goner, and future success seemed bleak. Yet, here we are, and I couldn't be more pleased. I think Coach Harbaugh, staff, and student-athletes will turn this thing around.

Just my two cents. Here's a professional who has an interesting quote from DiNardo at BTN concerning the comprehensive experience these kids get at U of M. And, it's the exact reason that I never want the program to resemble 'Bama, OSU, or Clemson.

Adding another DB to this class would certainly be the *next* (now past) top priority when examining by position. But this class would have been a truly 'A-grade' class had they snagged one of Spindler, Dellinger, or Tiernan to bolster the OL. Spindler certainly would have been the big prize there, but Tiernan seemed like a really nice prospect. The OL in this class are still strong and promising though.

Losing Dellinger and Spindler should keep this staff up at night. Two high quality in-state linemen gone and one to a rival none-the-less. Those two plus a DB...one can dream. At least the class of 22 is shaping up to be a good one. Though I feel like I've been saying that for years now.

Yeah dinardo cause that's what we fans are all about, ensuring a great university experience.

Numbnut. We want to WIN nattys, we just want to do it without going to the levels of O$U, Clem$on et al (if possible).

First, there seems to be a lot of angry people posting here.

Second, I never said kids don't get a good college experience at 'Bama, OSU, and Clemson. I said that I prefer the comprehensive experience that student-athletes receive at Michigan. As DiNardo said, university centered, not football centric.

Thirdly, I am not making excuses for why the football program hasn't produced any championships in almost 2 decades. I'm saying that I'd rather not have a champion if it comes via the way of 'Bama, OSU, or Clemson. I don't want scandal and cheating associated with the school that has given so much to me. You can have your Justin Fields academic programs, your fired assistants due to recruiting violations (Bo Davis), and your 'accidental' steroid distribution.

By the way, when I wear that Block M in every city, state, and country that I visit, I'm representing the university, my education, not just some sports program. We have a right to be arrogant - we're MICHIGAN!

Awesome article.  Says a lot Michigan landed this class.  Looking forward to next  football season already.  In the meantime, basketball is fun.

Watched the entire 2 hour BTN signing day show.  The UM segment was like no other.  One, no Harbaugh interview, from either the December signing day or this week's.  Two, not much discussion of the class overall.  Replayed December interviews with McCarthy and Edwards.  Three, very little overall analysis or time spent on the 2nd best ranking in the Big Ten & 10th best in the country.  DiNardo's comment was fascinating as was the other participants reactions.  I read it that he's amazed UM did well this year, and had to come up with some explanation.

This is just Dinardos backhanded way insulting the progam. He hates Harbaugh and the program because of him.

Ive heard it straight from his mouth

Dinardo is an asshole and he SUCKED as a coach. I heard what he said and it was a swipe at UM and it is evident he does not like Harbaugh. They were all laughing one month ago and have been bashing Harbaugh. They are all SURPRISED because the class turned out to be good and have ZERO explanations for it because Harbaugh loathes the media and reveals nothing about the program giving them nothing to talk about. Fuck the B10 Network and fuck ESPN too! ESPN will not exist in three years unless it becomes a portion of CNN.

Wow, what a thread ;)

It sure is fact UofM needs more guys who don't mind staying for the FULL experience and actually developing.

The Partridge Plan of offering everybody early playing time back fired big time this year.

Yep.  I'd rather go the U Chicago route than turn into a Clemson.  Gary is spot on.

Of course, what I'd also is for NIL to go through and then aim the money cannon, while also maintaining a "university centric program"

Would way rather go the OSU/Clemson/Alabama route because it gives the kids in the football program a much higher chance of success in the NFL, which is what a program should be about.

Stop conflating a student's "comprehensive experience" with that of an athlete. Completely different things and distracting athletes with schoolwork is beyond stupid, beating a dead horse at this point

Its ok not to be cynical if we have a great recruiting class. I refuse to poison the success of this recruiting year. Hope springs anew with me when I see these kids on film. Its what makes amateur  sports fun to watch. And the the fact that they will play in the Big House makes it all the more exciting. Its good news and I'll take it.
