Because Iowa is like the Iowa of Michigan.
Lots of corn. A sturdy run game approach. Loads of midwestabality. And a helluva a lot of success they probably shouldn't have while underachieving at the same time. Only, they do it better, which is why they are the Iowa to Iowa's Michigan.

Cool uniforms, friendly fans, nepotism.

McNamara and All and the appreciation for defense, contract incentive watch for the offensive coordinator, and salute to the children's hospital. Punting is winning (no, it IS NOT!) Train wrecks and dumpster fires.
October 14th, 2023 at 9:41 PM ^
McNamara is out for the season, and looking at the injury, All may be done as well (he took a hard hit and his knee looked to hyper-extend)...

Liking to watch Iowa football is like finding Indianapolis a fun city for sports events.
October 14th, 2023 at 9:40 PM ^
You know Indy hosted the Super Bowl, right? That doesn’t happen by accident.

Indianapolis sucks to host a major sporting event. I was extremely disappointed when I went down there for the Big 10 title game in 2021. There was nothing to do and everything was closed by midnight.
October 15th, 2023 at 11:31 AM ^
I was in Indy for the basketball regionals in 2018 and it was a great scene.

For me personally, it is because they are terrible in a unique and interesting way, and that is... unique. Most years there are like 2-7 very good teams that could legitimately win a national title. There are then usually another 30-40 teams that aren't winning national titles, but they are solid teams, who if things go right, can beat those very good teams. Then there are all the rest of the teams, who are all shades of bad. They're not beating those top teams, except on a complete fluke. They just aren't very good at football, which usually makes them uninteresting. Iowa is in that group of bad teams. However, they are bad in a totally unique way. They are in fact incredibly good at a large part of the game. So good in fact, that that they're possibly better than many/most of the 2-7 national title contenders on defense. It just so happens that they are simultaneously so monstrously bad on offense, that it doesn't matter how good they are on defense. Not many teams combine such competence and extreme incompetence.
PS. Their offensive incompetence is also just funny.

Do you have something better to do? I'm open to suggestions.

What dirt does Ferentz the elder have on Parker that keeps him around that steaming pile?
October 14th, 2023 at 7:09 PM ^
Dude it's awful. And yet intriguing.

HA! I guess we'll see Iowa in Indianapolis...

FIRST PLACE IOWA
October 14th, 2023 at 7:30 PM ^
That was one of the most Iowa game I have ever witnessed and seen them all since Hayden (before that radio Cummings era not worth TV viewing). Long run YD... the punter was the MVP. A safety I missed taking a crap. Why do I do it to myself..... The Michigan game was fun to watch.... offense... defense... MY God the Wisky/Iowa game.... one TD entire game..... ONE god-damn touchdown (you can't say goddamn ) no one is reading this anyways.....

I was watching quad view on yttv when there was that fumble by Wisconsin late in the game. How was that overturned? It looked clear to be a fumble. What did I miss?
October 15th, 2023 at 6:05 AM ^
It was a fumble. Recovered by WI.
On 4th down. Ahead of where it was when fumbled.
Since the ball can't be advanced when fumbled and recovered by the offense on 4th down, the review was to see if Allen was past the line to gain when he fumbled the ball.
I didn't think that the video was irrefutable. But they ruled it was and said that Allen had the 1st when he fumbled..
October 18th, 2023 at 8:33 AM ^
I for some reason thought Iowa recovered it. Not sure why.
October 14th, 2023 at 7:31 PM ^
IA wins ugly, but they win. Not only with a putrid offense but without 2 TE including Eric All.
It was an unlikely win by playing in Madison but you got to hand it to them. Besides, am glad that Luke Fickell and his Badgers lost at home.
October 14th, 2023 at 7:41 PM ^
Iowa could finish the season 11-1... but how could you rank a team with that offense in the top 25????
October 14th, 2023 at 7:47 PM ^
Because 6-1.
October 14th, 2023 at 7:46 PM ^
That game was the epitome of “MY EYES!! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!!”
October 14th, 2023 at 7:58 PM ^
More like Michael O'Donaghue.
"This is my impression of a Wisconsin Badgers fan today with red hot, razor sharp, 10 inch spikes plunged into his eyeballs."

this is just a terrible post.
October 14th, 2023 at 8:53 PM ^
yeah, shit post. doesn't make much sense... but neither does what iowa is pulling off.
October 14th, 2023 at 7:52 PM ^
Wisconsin, WISCONSIN, threw the ball 50 times for 4.6 ypa. Braelon Allen averaged 4.8 ypc, but only got it 18 times.
October 14th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
Yay, AIR RAID!!
October 14th, 2023 at 9:00 PM ^
If I could upvote 100x because of Parker Posey, I would.
October 14th, 2023 at 9:10 PM ^
Luke Fickell turning Wisconsin into air raid north is reminiscent of Bill Callahan ditching Nebraska’s run-oriented option offense for a west coast attack.
Dumb.

I’m sorry but if you didn’t enjoy the Iowa Wisconsin game, you don’t love B1G football.
October 15th, 2023 at 12:51 AM ^
You're right, the game had everything a football loving person could want. Suffocating defense, a safety, long punts, competitive and spirited play by the boys...and a touchdown.
October 14th, 2023 at 8:08 PM ^
They're 6-1 somehow
October 14th, 2023 at 9:19 PM ^
I honestly thought Iowa had a losing record, 3-3 at best
WTF
October 14th, 2023 at 10:23 PM ^
Bowl eligible! The Drive for 325 continues!
Also -- the three points they might score in the Big Ten Championship game against Michigan might be the three they need to get Ferentz his bonuses. Pay the man!
October 15th, 2023 at 7:41 AM ^
They are 6-1 because they have basically played bad teams. Michigan's schedule isn't exactly murder's row, but Michigan has come in and handled the teams they are supposed to beat. When faced with an actual good team in Penn State, Iowa's offense was basically three plays and then punt and that was with Cade and All. Give a good team that many chances and you are going to be blown out.

Iowa defense: Irresistible force
Iowa offense: Immovable object
October 15th, 2023 at 8:32 AM ^
They call that immovable object the Rock.
October 14th, 2023 at 8:12 PM ^
Looking at their schedule…they could realistically end up 10-2 or 11-1.
October 14th, 2023 at 8:13 PM ^
It's on you for watching that when Washington/Oregon was on.
October 14th, 2023 at 8:14 PM ^
Remember that year that Nebraska went 1-8 in conference play despite outscoring* their opponents? I'm rooting for Iowa to do the inverse this year.
*Well, they gave up exactly as many points as they scored, but let's not descend to that level of pedantry.
October 14th, 2023 at 9:07 PM ^
I will absolutely descend to such levels. The perfectly even in score differential makes it so much more special.
October 14th, 2023 at 9:18 PM ^
They win, I don’t understand why that bothers folks. Other that it sucks our transfers are hurt.
October 14th, 2023 at 9:25 PM ^
37 yards passing and they win…..
October 15th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
I agree. It's really interesting that their defense is so good and their offense so bad.
But this is why i hate people. Defense is half the game. It is 100% equally as important as offense.
If you just like offense more because "oo wow ball fly through air", it's just disrespectful of every defensive football player who ever lived. USC is just as imbalanced as Iowa, makes no sense to root for one and not the other.
