Incredulous Iowa

I am just fucking baffled watching this team.

They have an all world defense and a high school offense and I just watch and think anyone with a brain should know what you could have.

But no.  it’s seriously beyond fucked up.

For me personally, it is because they are terrible in a unique and interesting way, and that is... unique. Most years there are like 2-7 very good teams that could legitimately win a national title. There are then usually another 30-40 teams that aren't winning national titles, but they are solid teams, who if things go right, can beat those very good teams. Then there are all the rest of the teams, who are all shades of bad. They're not beating those top teams, except on a complete fluke. They just aren't very good at football, which usually makes them uninteresting. Iowa is in that group of bad teams. However, they are bad in a totally unique way. They are in fact incredibly good at a large part of the game. So good in fact, that that they're possibly better than many/most of the 2-7 national title contenders on defense. It just so happens that they are simultaneously so monstrously bad on offense, that it doesn't matter how good they are on defense. Not many teams combine such competence and extreme incompetence.

PS. Their offensive incompetence is also just funny.

That was one of the most Iowa game I have ever witnessed and seen them all since Hayden (before that radio Cummings era not worth TV viewing). Long run YD... the punter was the MVP. A safety I missed taking a crap. Why do I do it to myself..... The Michigan game was fun to watch.... offense... defense... MY God the Wisky/Iowa game.... one TD entire game..... ONE god-damn touchdown (you can't say goddamn ) no one is reading this anyways.....

It was a fumble. Recovered by WI.

On 4th down. Ahead of where it was when fumbled.

Since the ball can't be advanced when fumbled and recovered by the offense on 4th down, the review was to see if Allen was past the line to gain when he fumbled the ball.

I didn't think that the video was irrefutable.  But they ruled it was and said that Allen had the 1st when he fumbled..

IA wins ugly, but they win. Not only with a putrid offense but without 2 TE including Eric All.

It was an unlikely win by playing in Madison but you got to hand it to them. Besides, am glad that Luke Fickell and his Badgers lost at home.

They are 6-1 because they have basically played bad teams. Michigan's schedule isn't exactly murder's row, but Michigan has come in and handled the teams they are supposed to beat. When faced with an actual good team in Penn State, Iowa's offense was basically three plays and then punt and that was with Cade and All. Give a good team that many chances and you are going to be blown out.

Remember that year that Nebraska went 1-8 in conference play despite outscoring* their opponents? I'm rooting for Iowa to do the inverse this year.

*Well, they gave up exactly as many points as they scored, but let's not descend to that level of pedantry.

I agree.  It's really interesting that their defense is so good and their offense so bad.

But this is why i hate people.  Defense is half the game.  It is 100% equally as important as offense.

If you just like offense more because "oo wow ball fly through air", it's just disrespectful of every defensive football player who ever lived.   USC is just as imbalanced as Iowa, makes no sense to root for one and not the other.
