Hunter Dickinson says goodbye to Michigan

He tweeted farewell without saying where he’s headed. https://twitter.com/h_dickinson24/status/1653965859465904131?s=46&t=CW4Sd_R53eqeHXPYzEqHUw

Agree this message was very classy.  Sorry to see Hunter go and thankful for his play and effort while here.  Have a feeling he will miss living and playing in Ann Arbor and he knows it.  Perhaps the NIL money involved makes it the right decision for him.  It's a lot a money.

I thought this was actually kind of cool by Hunter. Maybe this is just my interpretation, but he announced he was leaving without naming the new team so that Michigan could get all the attention first -- not just a footnote in his announcement of going elsewhere. It was just "thanks Michigan, I'm going to _________". It really felt like he wanted people to know what Michigan means to him.

Could’ve, and if they did I’m sure he’d stick around. But did they?

if that’s what he wanted.

what about what Michigan wants? Probably NOT to throw a bunch of money at a traditional center on a team that is likely going to find itself fighting on the bubble next year. If we were looking at a championship caliber team, like with Corum and the football team, you might see it happen. But there’s really no upside in Michigan getting into a bidding war for his services.

Michigan meant a ton to me while I attended and graduated, but I’ve since gone on to get a job… My first employer meant a lot to me for giving me an opportunity, I’ve since changed jobs to make more $.

Hunter doesn’t have an NBA future, anyone blaming him for trying to make the most $ he can in his final year(s) of eligibility is an idiot.

Given his choice to leave Michigan, it seems like a cynical attempt to be seen in the best light possible and generate positive social media reaction, despite the fact that his words are contradicted by his choice. I believe he has every right to go elsewhere, but I don’t think his tweet honestly reflects his true thoughts. It’s strictly PR.

No, I’m equally dismayed by top 10 and top 5 recruiting announcements, and can’t stand the dramatic, televised hat ceremonies when the kids announce which school they’ve chosen. The world needs more Joe Thomases, the NFL HOFer who chose going fishing with his dad over attending the draft.

I think the worlds need less people trying to push their world view on others. There is nothing wrong with these young men celebrating/sharing one of the most important moments of their lives with others.

I personally think holidays and birthdays are stupid but will not act like there is something wrong with the world or individuals for celebrating.

How I wish Dickinson and Burke could've played together. Can't blame Hunter for leaving. Sadly the program is in decline.

Hard to fault the kid. Can’t imagine it was an easy decision. For all the grumbling, if the reports are to be beloved Hunter is going from what - a few hundred thousand? - to two million. I don’t think there’s anyone on this blog that wouldn’t do the same thing…
