He's actually a good choice for interim coach.  He has head coaching experience and can get a team to rally in the short term, while having a track record that would probably disqualify him for permanent consideration.

I think Hoke has changed the tide.

Hell people in Alabama are starting to believe in him.

Never in a million years would I have thought that.

Selling Tennessee jerseys is a good start.

i get he wasn't successful here, but its no reason to kick a man while he was down. people act around here like hoke didnt wanna win at michigan, he just didnt know how

I wouldn’t call Brady Hoke “down” in any sense of the word. He’s a highly successful well payed man. He’s a good person and appears to have a wonderful family. He didn’t win a championship at Michigan. So what. Neither did Bo, or Harbaugh, for that matter.

I agree with this. Bashing Brady is low-hanging fruit, and I've certainly done it myself.

But to be fair, it's not like the man came back to Ann Arbor with the mindset of "I'm going to do a really half-assed job and just collect my paychecks." I firmly believe he did the best he could. His best obviously wasn't good enough, but I don't blame that on lack of desire or effort - just a lack of talent.

Brady wasn't the villain - he was just a mediocrity in a job that was too big for him. He's the perfect example of the Peter Principle: He rose to the level of his incompetence.

I frankly don't understand this logic. I'm guessing 99% of failed coaches tried really hard. Does that mean we shouldn't bash any of them? Honestly, if you feel that way, I can respect that stance even if I don't share it. Where it get's nauseating wrt Hoke is that in general it feels like the people who feel that way are applying that logic exclusively to Hoke. Like, those same people have no problem bashing Richrod (and for the record I'm fine with bashing Richrod too. Field a defense fergodsakes)

Hoke wasn't the villain, Dave Brandon was the villain.  Still, Hoke allowed the environment that saw Brandon become some kind of odd coaching consultant in the football program and lacked the strength of character to prevent it.  Red Berenson told Dave Brandon to get the fuck out of his locker room; Hoke never had the stones to do that, because he was willing to do anything and make any kind of compromise to be Head Coach at Michigan.  He allowed himself to become part of the public relation spin machine that saw Michigan Athletics turn into an absolute shitshow.

It's not enough to just coach football players when you're at Michigan.  You have to be a caretaker of the program.  Bo understood this.  Lloyd understood this.  Harbaugh understands this.  Hoke was willing to partner with Brandon on this point, to his detriment, and we're still paying the price for it 3 years later.

Seriously, let it go guys. He treated the players well, had a great graduation rate, and was well-intended. Nothing like the provious guy who was wholly unaccountable.

I also hope he does well and gets a permanent gig.

Some of the above posts help explain where much of the anti Hoke and Carr venom comes from: some bizarre to attempt to absolve Rich Rod of his ineptness as Michigan HC.

No amount of bashing Carr or Hoke is ever going to remove the fact that RR was an utter loser as HC at Michigan. Almost every negative post I ever see about Hoke or Carr, what I really see is someone in denial trying go convince himself that RR was really not the colosal failure at Michigan that he was.

Brady Hoke still, LET IT GO!!!! Like other posters said it’s not like he purposely sabotaged the program like Lloyd. He had a decent eye for talent but didn’t have the ability to coach them up. The guys heart was in the right place. He just couldn’t be successful on the field

Yeah Lloyd kinda did. He waved the white flag to Jim Tressel. He didn’t adapt his defenses to the spread offense. He let player development slow. He stopped recruiting depth. He failed to develop a coaching tree. He wanted either DeBored or Ferentz to replace him. He suggested UM hired Rich Rod. And when they did, he allowed any player to transfer out by immediately signing their papers.

Really?? Do you not remember Michigan for three straight years not getting a kid from Ohio under late Carr? Do you not remember all the losses to Tressel? Do you not remember Lloyd going with a base 4-3 against spreads and asking a slow OLB to cover a speedy slot receiver? The losses to USC.

2006 Ball State where the starters went out and Ball State came back so the starters had to go back in. Remember the Horror??

And yes he did offer to sign any and all transfer papers once Rich Rod was named.

2008 - Koger - Mealer 2006 - Boren - Mixon - Wright 2005 - Harrison - Simpson - Manningham 2004 - Massey As far as I can tell, 2007 is the only year that we had no players from Ohio And while many of Rich Rod’s players were key to Hoke’s best year, so were many of Carr’s. Do the names - David Molk - Kevin Koger - Ryan Van Bergen - Mike Martin - and others ring a bell?
