Hello: Jack Tuttle (QB transfer from Indiana)
Welp, I would hardly call this an impressive pickup (only threw 12 passes this year), but if nothing else he ads some experience to the QB room. Depending on if he used a redshirt early in his career, he's got one or two years of eligibility.

Alan Bowman replacement. Probably 3rd string behind Warren would be my guess. Likely transferring in for school / experience / Harbaugh exposure but pure speculation. Gives you someone who's actually played in case of an injury disaster.

"Likely transferring in for school / experience / Harbaugh exposure"
If you can join a team that's competing for titles, coached by one of the best in the business, AND get a Michigan grad degree, you take it.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
The anti-Cardale Jones - "Why should we have to practice if we come here to go to CLASS, we ain't come to play FOOTBALL, practices are POINTLESS ".
December 20th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
Or MAYBE he's a style replacement for Jake Moody.
A picture I've seen suggests Tuttle's got a mustache.
December 20th, 2022 at 5:46 PM ^
All right on the money. He will be third string and if a situation ever arises we get that far down the depth chart it shouldn’t be a disaster as it usually would be for any team. He can learn from Harbaugh and maybe he wants to coach someday while continuing his education at UM. Win for everyone
December 20th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
i dont get it. unless he can play in our playoff game. i thought he was a starter at a mid-tier P5 school.. why would he want to back up JJ and then JD?
December 20th, 2022 at 3:15 PM ^
Came for the NIL bag
December 20th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Full of IOUs

We have the local ambulance chasers signing up everyone now.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
JD is not even committed yet much less signed a letter of intent, enrolled, practicing, playing, or starting
December 20th, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
yes, but someone will be along. and i dont know that tuttle has a high ceiling
December 20th, 2022 at 3:32 PM ^
Only had 12 attempts in 2022 after injury. Probably knows he isn't going to the NFL, so why not come to Michigan for your final year of football? Might be able to pick up a UM Degree, and continue to be a leader.
December 21st, 2022 at 10:18 PM ^
And best.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
He's not coming here to be a starter. He went from Utah to Indiana and only played in '20 and '21 when Penix was hurt. Probably wants to be on a team that wins a ton of games while getting a Michigan degree.
December 20th, 2022 at 6:36 PM ^
Once a player enters the portal, they can remove their name, but their current school has no obligation to take them back. Could be that he entered the portal and backup at Michigan was his only or in his mind his best scholarship offer.
December 20th, 2022 at 10:19 PM ^
Off topic here:
in my made up world, Michael Penix played DL and played for Michigan and was voted Michigan's best DL. Yes, therefore he won the Richard Katcher award.

Can we start referring to his position as "the Alan Bowman" roster spot
December 20th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
"Clipboard Jesus" is the original term I believe
December 20th, 2022 at 6:49 PM ^
"We'd like to formally introduce The Distinguished Alan Bowman Clipboard Jesus for 2023, Jack Tuttle!"
December 20th, 2022 at 3:52 PM ^
"The Bowman Insurance Policy" Smart idea for a team competing at the highest level, to have a guy with experience as deep back-up at the most important position.
December 20th, 2022 at 5:34 PM ^
let's raise money and endow it
December 20th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
Replacing Bowman. Emergency QB with some experience.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
Trust our coaches 😃
December 20th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
Indiana profile mentions he too was a captain and his only TD last season was to AJ Barner.

ALL YOUR CAPTAIN . . .

Iowa owes Indiana a transfer QB and TE to complete the circle-swapsies
December 20th, 2022 at 4:00 PM ^
Well the way I figure it, Iowa gave Purdue two WRs last year so maybe Purdue owes two players to Indiana?
December 20th, 2022 at 3:49 PM ^
Pretty funny, losing captains at QB/TE to the same, in conference, team, and likely getting back a different pair of captains at QB/TE from the same, in conference, team.

I’m willing to bet that most people on this board under the age of 40 truly don’t understand your post.
FYI - I’m well over 40 so….
he was a great surgeon as well….
December 20th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
This may have been the only opportunity I'll ever have to make that reference. A man named John "Jack" Tuttle. Who was a CAPTAIN? It's too perfect.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:56 PM ^
But we do know where THIS Tuttle is. Frank and Margret are still looking for theirs….

December 20th, 2022 at 5:00 PM ^
I think you’d have to be in your mid-50s, at least, to get that reference. More older guys here than I thought.

I was the 5th of 6 kids so I was on the tail end and my Dad LOVED MASH, we would watch it as a family every Monday night...

Us too. I'm 36 and have probably seen every episode, out of order.

Hopefully if we need him in an emergency, he’ll remember his parachute this time.

December 20th, 2022 at 3:15 PM ^
From his perspective, I wonder why? Interested in coaching and looking for exposure to some good coaches?
December 20th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
I had a friend recently transfer to an SEC school to be a third string QB because he wanted to eventually become a coach/do a Grad Assistant program. He actually ended up getting time this year due to injuries, but was never in the school's long term plans - he could have transferred down and been a starter at a high-level FCS or even low low G5 school, but opted for his future over playing time.
I would imagine this situation is similar to that.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
So like a Blue Mountain State QB situation
December 20th, 2022 at 3:27 PM ^
Fairly highly rated in high school. Spent one year at Utah, then transferred to IU partly for academics. Strong academics. In business masters program. My guess is that he was guaranteed a spot in our business school. Was injured in first game of season last year and likely has two years remaining. All academic Big Ten player.
May have wanted to experience our coaching, etc.
Good pick up.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
Probably the Bowman replacement. I was hoping we would pick up a QB with more experience, but it seems like Davis Warren is a good QB2.
If the NFL isn't an option for a QB, why not go another year at a school like Michigan? Great education, continued great coaching, and a great opportunity. Seems like he's a leader, and continued leadership is what we need. Staying grounded and disciplined can lead programs to success.
Could be going to some school like Iowa....
December 20th, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
We had a void of QB / TE captains so obviously needed to fill via the portal
