Hello: Aidan Hutchinson
Just took a quick look back in time at Aidan's commitment post - kids grow up fast these days. Thought others might like to see it again since he is now a Heisman finalist.
Enjoy!

Not sure why anyone would down vote this. I found this pretty cool! Thanks!

says the drug kingpin.

Dammit, you had me fooled, I thought maybe because of covid, he decided to comeback next year, a guy can dream.
But yeah, Hello Heisman Hutchinson!!!
December 9th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
Man, as I scrolled down to see the 2018 commits, that turned out to be a great class, so many high end contributors.
Kinda proves how the stars thing can be so off or overrated.
EDIT: Magnus knows WTF he's talking about.
December 9th, 2021 at 3:23 PM ^
Rivals has him as a 3 star... we're just getting a legacy kid
...I'm sure this was said by a few MGoUsers
December 9th, 2021 at 3:17 PM ^
Did you really think that?
December 9th, 2021 at 4:11 PM ^
the kid will never pan out.
December 9th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
The prediction was clearly based on flimsy evidence. Also, the 2018 class turned out to be pretty damn good. Jake Moody was a gray shirt.
December 9th, 2021 at 1:59 PM ^
If Aidan weren't in the 2018 class you could argue than the most impactful players from that class were at/near the bottom in terms of ranking. Remarkable work by the coaching staff to identify and coach up diamonds in the rough.
December 9th, 2021 at 1:59 PM ^
lol, Rivals. That is all.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
Also ESPN..."Not overly explosive and lacks the speed to consistently get around the edge." They should ask Stroud about that.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
Well to be fair, he did just go through a ton of guys.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:03 PM ^
He ended up at #129 overall on Rivals. The 2018 recruiting recap profile paints a more complete picture of him as a recruit. He blew up late in the cycle.

December 9th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
Yeah, I didn't read the hello post where they say it was early in the cycle. Still interesting that everyone else had a rating that early but not Rivals.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:36 PM ^
Edit, nevermind, someone went back and made a new comment in the old post.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:03 PM ^
Well that acorn grew up into a pretty sturdy oak.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:03 PM ^
I found this most interesting:
Hutchinson is Michigan's third commit in the class, joining IN OG Emil Ekiyor and GA S/OLB Otis Reese.
What happened to those guys?
December 9th, 2021 at 2:09 PM ^
Otis Reese decommitted and went to Georgia, he was from Georgia so it wasn't a big surprise so much as a disappointment. He played some, started some, but otherwise was just another highly rated 'croot in the system there...
December 9th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
Ekiyor has been an IOL starter for Bama. Reese seems to have washed out at Georgia? Can't remember if he's even still there and can't be bothered to look.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:15 PM ^
Otis, My Man, followed Chris Partridge when he went to Ole Miss
December 9th, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
Ekiyor starts for Bama actually so hopefully we see him shortly.
Reese transferred from UGA to Ole Miss and starts there.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
Could be wrong but I think Emil is the hockey coach of a ragtag group of kids and Otis became a soul singer. Not sure what the future holds for either of them but it's drastically different than their football trajectories a few years ago. Congrats to all 3!

AH was a legacy recruit. I was real excited when he committed early his Junior or maybe sophomore year of HS. My young cousin was a senior at his HS and downplayed AH of not being real good.
I have blown this up in my cousin face since, and especially my cousin graduating from MSU last year.
December 9th, 2021 at 3:05 PM ^
AH was a legacy recruit
Are you sure? I feel like the media would have covered that angle at some point this season.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:09 PM ^
Wow - from that to Heisman Finalist - what a story....proud he is a Wolverine!
December 9th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
Rivals considers him the #14 prospect in the state—in a down year compared to 2017, at that
Oops.
Edit: After reading the comments in the original Hello post, Magnus declares him the #1 prospect in the state. Nicely done, Magnus.
December 9th, 2021 at 9:09 PM ^
WOOHOO!!!
December 9th, 2021 at 2:20 PM ^
Looking back at the 2018 class, you really gotta wonder what the previous coaches were thinking taking a flyer on that 3 star scrub out of Missouri, like the 3rd or so lowest rated prospect. Never made an impact at LB, not a single sack or INT, just such a waste of a recruiting slot.
December 9th, 2021 at 3:00 PM ^
LOL
no doubt
Hassan at LB never made an impact
December 9th, 2021 at 2:34 PM ^
Short on explosiveness?
I guess that one blew up in people's faces.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:35 PM ^
Prediction Based on Flimsy Evidence:
WILL BE THE HEART AND SOUL OF MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. CRUSH ALL OBSTACLES IN HIS PATH DURING DOMINANT SENIOR SEASON. WILL MAKE A PIT STOP AT THE HEISMAN TROPHY PRESENTATION BEFORE PLAYING IN THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF
December 9th, 2021 at 2:49 PM ^
Just looking at this class - those who stuck it out were almost all major contributors. That is - Those who stayed are champions!
December 9th, 2021 at 2:52 PM ^
Crazy that he only ran a 5.11s 40. Wonder how much that's come down. He does win primarily with techniques, hands, power rushes and relentlessness but he's pretty quick around the edge and has good explosiveness off the line.
December 9th, 2021 at 3:06 PM ^
If you ever watch him chase a QB I believe the 5.11. Guy has serious short area quickness, but past about 10 yards he's going slower than he was from 1 to 3 (I'm sure that's an optical illusion, but he gets outrun on the regular).

Not knowing that Divine Child is a school name, I initially read it as a nickname or title. Aidan Hutchinson is the Divine Child.
December 9th, 2021 at 2:57 PM ^
ESPN has an undated underclassman evaluation on his profile:
STRENGTHS: Tall kid with an excellent frame and a muscular build. Uses his long arms well to keep blockers at bay and has the strength to hold at the point of attack. Demonstrates a high football IQ and knows where the play is going. High motor kid who fights through the whistle and looks to punish opponents. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Not overly explosive and lacks the speed to consistently get around the edge. Will need to hit the weights in order to fill out his ample frame with functional strength. ... BOTTOM LINE: Hutchinson is a big, strong kid who plays with a relentless motor. He's not going to win any track meets, but this is prospect who should develop into an effective strong-side defensive end at the next level.
Relentless motor is key takeaway on this ESPN eval.
too bad McGrone didn't stay one more year, our D would have been even better with him
December 9th, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
Good thing his “short arms” (per the comments) weren’t too much of a handicap at this level.
December 9th, 2021 at 3:20 PM ^
Wow a lot has changed. Scout doesn’t exist and rivals has different guys covering Michigan. Recruiting insiders have had some movement lately.
December 9th, 2021 at 5:07 PM ^
Looks a lot like Hello: Ethan Burke.
December 9th, 2021 at 5:58 PM ^
Impressive work, Rivals. Where can I sign up for a paid subscription? I would like access to this level of insight for all possible recruits.
December 9th, 2021 at 7:35 PM ^
Ethan Burke's is eerily simikar

The kid turned down an offer from StAEE to play for us.

Poor guy. Just think, he could be preparing for the peach bowl now…
