On a serious note, I can't remember the last Michigan RB who showed this combo of speed, quickness, vision (obviously not including Peppers). I know its one game against a terrible opponent. But who has looked like that against any opponent in the last 10 years?

It got to the point where I never could tell if his prognoses were a plus or a bane. Evan's play certainly made him look legit today, though. Anything can happen. I remember Harlan Huckleby during our freshman year when he could do no wrong. Then during sophomore year we were nicknaming him "Fumbleby." Here's to all the guys improving as the year goes by, and we definitely have the coaching staff now to make that happen.

Hard to make any evaluations of the OL; there were shaky moments, which against Hawaii isn't a good sign, but it's the first game of the season. And we were playing backups from the getgo.

I was really impressed with our massive stable of running backs. Evans, of course, looked great. Isaac was fine. But Higdon can contribute this year if there are injury issues. We have a ton of guys who looked good. Hawaii caveats, yes, but recalls how the RBS looked for Brady Hoke even against lousy teams.

There's a ton of depth on the team. This probably means there will be some things that shake out over the season and offseason, but this is very encouraging.

I was mostly a fan during the game... If someone more knowledgeable can tell me if I saw this right: When I looked at Evans' long 43yd TD run ... It seemed like a really well blocked counter play by the OL, where Kugler was the LG, pulled and made the kickout block. Poggi came through as the lead blocker and couldn't find anyone to block because his man took himself out of the play trying to double team Kugler. And Bushell Beatty pushed his man 4 yards off the line. Big hole for Evans who had the speed to blow past 4 defensive players trying to close the hole.

I went into this one with some thoughts about what I might see, but they admittedly did not involve Chris Evans to any significant extent. I must say, I was pretty impressed with him in particular - I think there were a few runs where, with some patience, they were easy TDs, or rather more than he did and he did quite a bit.

Three plays stood out, to me, for different reasons. Nice down field cut back for extra yardage. Dive for the pylon for the score. Bounced off a tackler for short/no gain and made a nice run. Three positive things we have seldom seen in past years and they were made by a freshman in his first game. Also, he has speed with a nice burst.

Chris Evans had a great game, Eddie Mcdoom had good speed around the edge. The offensive line missed a few blocks but I liked their ability to kick out on toss plays. Also, I wouldn't be suprised if O'Korn carved out more of a workload the next few weeks before we get into Big Ten play (at Shane Morris expense). With that being said I trust Speight as our starter.
