Has there Been Any Official B10 Congratulations?

Submitted by MGoBlue95 on January 10th, 2024 at 2:49 PM

Have I missed anything, or has there been no congratulatory statements or even acknowledgment from Tony Petitti or the Big Ten on UM's National Championship? I am shocked--although not surprised--that what should be a crowning achievement for the conference by one of its core members is being completely ignored. If there has been some statement, please forgive me, but I have not seen anything substantive to date (other than a news item on the B10 home page)

I think about how much Michigan would be getting dragged if we had lost and I'm just grateful all the ammo they have is a played out asterisk joke.

I honestly have no idea if it is customary for the conference to send a "formal congratulations," but the B1G Network has been about basically nothing but our game since Monday. It's hardly like the conference is pretending the win didn't happen. As for Petite Tony? He can shove his congratulations in a sack, as far as I am concerned.

There is a congratulatory splash screen on the Big Ten website. Check it out right now, bigten.org. I am not sure there is any more that you could typically expect in such situations.

There was a congratulatory tweet from them on the scoreboard after the game.  I remember thinking, "sure, just act like we're best buddies..."

I think some strange envelope arrived at Schembechler Hall with a return address of the Big Ten headquarters. Wisely, the envelope was not opened and the police were called.

All you have to do is look at the viewership of the past three games we've played in to know how important we are to the conference. I don't think it's necessary to throw our weight around in public but I sure hope we do it behind Big Ten headquarters doors.

I don’t know about the customary response from the conference, but this is as good a time as any to say Tony can go F himself and so can the rest of the pearl-clutching coaches and ADs who smeared our program. And the media. F you too.

Thank you OP, I needed that. Take my upvote.

Petitti was quoted in this article. But he only was quoted in the context of how an expanded Play-off would have helped other good teams like Ohio State having a deserved chance at a title.

“Petitti said his focus was "respecting how difficult that job is," and that this season's controversy further showed that four "isn't the right number" of teams in the field.

"I say that because I look at Ohio State's season," he said. "It's not just Florida State. We had some pretty good teams that could get on a roll and win a national championship that weren't included." ”

Really do think the thing to do would be to join the ACC with Notre Dame. Go out of the Big Ten on the absolute peak of peaks.

I know its probably not feasible or legally possible, but it would be the world's greatest mic drop, just like the second half of this season was the world's greatest "Ball Don't Lie".

I spent about five minutes looking before the game to see if Petitti was going to be in Houston or at the game. It seemed the disgraced Pac-12 commish was. There was some question as to what would be his presence if Washington won, but no mention of Petitti.

It would seem like Petitti might have wanted to be there since whoever won was a Big Ten team, though not technically true for Washington.

I didn't watch every minute of the BTN coverage, but it seems like he would have been a guest on his own network at some point. But if he was, I would think it would be a blog post somewhere.

I assume he is keeping his name and face out of the whole thing just to avoid the noise. And frankly, I think that's just as well.

Edit: Should have googled first.
