Little secret: I went to a couple Lloyd practices. Lloyd did this, too. He was downright salty behind the walls at the practice field.

That being said. Having talked to a few people who went to both Lloyd practices and RR practices on a regular basis, there seemed to be noticeable, if not monumental differences in tenor between the two. Not saying it should have been a reason for RR to be fired, but to a man, among the first things they said was how shocked they were at how the coaches acted toward the players.

You're correct that many folks hated RR for yelling. Which is stupid.

But if you look deeper, you'll find folks like me who didn't like that he literally blamed a loss on our kicker (Gibbons) and shook his confidence for 2 years. And not, "we've gotta kick better" as a quote to the media. He chewed him out and basically broke the kid down in front of the entire TEAM.

That is unnecessary and if Harbaugh did that it would still be wrong. It's a team game and you don't ever blame a loss on a player, especially to the entire team. Grow up and be a coach.

Theres a TOTAL difference between the way Harbaugh "curses and yells" and the way RichRod "curses and yells".

Don't be so simple (or, basically, so plainly argumentative)

You're "taller" if you're 1 inch taller, and you're "taller" if you're 1 foot taller.

But there's a big difference between each "taller", though they both qualify as "taller".

The same with "cursing and swearing".

Great story about Harbaugh as a 4 year old and his plan for life.  I counted 2 'fucks' in the Big House.  Loved that.  The baseball games at the strip mall are a hoot.

i'm normally 10% happier during football season, but this euphoria right now is fantastic.

BTW...Boone is still a punk and so is Gumble.

Apparently Harbaugh didn't have any NFL job offers because according to Bryant and that lady he is just using Michigan as a stepping stone to get back to the NFL.

I honestly didn't mind all the shade Boone was throwing. He ended up sounding like the one with a poor attitude and work ethic. He even gave Jim a few back-handed compliments.

and she translated that as: "the nfl, obviously."

Yeah, that was kind of stupid.  I realize, of course, that most coaches would claim to want to still be where they are in a few years for PR reasons and she claimed to have talked to people.  She didn't really reveal any sources for her decision, though, did she?

But, meh.  Who cares?  Harbaugh leaving, in my opinion, is the only way this team isn't in the NC hunt year in and year out in three years.  I don't think you can say that about many coaches.

She was getting [view points] from the same group of people (nfl people) that said the exact same thing about Harbaugh (staying in the NFL) when Michigan hired him.

It's hard to take that noise seriously.

All of that aside, I agree with you.  I don't think, however, that Harbaugh would leave before Michigan was in NC contending form.   Doing so would be considered a loss.  Harbaugh doesn't like to lose.

He gave commentary from the view of a black man as to why black men aren't as interested in the game.  That doesn't mean he was making it a "race issue."

And he did offer a solution, make the game more appealing to black culture.  His view was if MLB were to do that, blacks and american youth in general would follow the game more.

"Make the game more appealing to black youth". You really think adding music and bat flips raises the appeal? Baseball was appealing to black players. Hell, there was a popular Negro League with some of the best players - regardless of color - to *ever* play the game. The game had changed little since then, so what's the difference?

Can't talk about race anymore without it being a "race issue."

It was a comment on/about race. He wasn't making it a race issue.

Yesterday, I watched the ESPN Draft Academy (total knockoff of the BTN show, but whatever) and the #1 prospect in the draft, who happens to be black, who happens to be a top baseball prospect, called baseball boring in his meeting with Jim Harbaugh.

That isn't saying that it's not boring to white players or latino players, that is his opinion as to why it's declining among black players. Saying "Black Lives Matter" doesn't mean all others lives don't.

It probably shortsided not to mention this upfront, but it's also shortsided to react to the comment and call it flamebait just because you don't understand it.

----------------------

My personal opinion is that baseball is declining among all youth of all races - except maybe Hispanic and Latin America where the sport is still extremely popular along with soccer.

The difference is black people make up, what 13% of this country? Your pool to find MLB baseball players is small from the beginning. With the rise of football and basketball, youth leagues in urban areas, cost of travel, number of interested players needed to play, etc. - the opporunity for the MLB isn't there.

It's still very much there to find White American players - just based off numbers and availability it is.

I'd be more interested to see if the top White American athletes are still choosing baseball. But just based off of numbers you're going to find enough human beings who can play the game well enough to be developed to keep the league going as it has been.

Another question I'd have is...so black people make up 13% of this country, like I mentioned above...why aren't their more White Americans in the NBA or NFL? I have my theories, but that to me is an equally fascinating question.

It's okay to talk about race in America, just do it responsibly.

Is the correlation between baseball and the declining number of black players really about bat flips and hip hop walk up music? Math, paying bills, yard work, and going to work is boring too. Will rap music make those things more universally appealing?

White people like rap music too...

And there is rap music in baseball.

What am I missing? That was a weird comment.

But to answer your question, I do find yard work is more enjoyable with music - and that can be rap music. Just the other day I was mulching the back yard to some Kendrick Lamar and I had a 2 hour drive home after a long flight, which is BORING, but I put on some Biggie and it made it better. I almost always listen to rap when I'm going to work, it puts me in the right state of mind.

So yes, rap can make those things better...not sure I know why we're having this particular discussion though. I think music can make a lot of boring things better. I love music, just about all music.
