Pretty sure that whoever QB #19 is (Speight maybe? don't have a roster in front of me...) is the guy on the losing end of the "if you're gonna look at me with the look..." line.

3 and 9, 5 and 7. Those numbers are what turned the fanbase on Rich. Did some not like him before? Sure but maybe those folks had a crystal ball and knew what was coming. Rich made his own Michigan legacy and that is as the most ineffective at winning games as a HC. And if it makes you feel better I'm sure there are many within the UofM community that will hate Jim before he coaches a game.

3-9 and 5-7 didn't turn the fanbase on him. It just reinforced their already existing disdain for him. RichRod did make his own legacy though and his time at Michigan is the outlier, not the norm. The football program being a cancer from the top down was the much bigger revalation that came of RichRod's tenure here. I still don't understand how anyone can look at RichRod and think he is a bad coach. He didn't work out here, but citing his record with no context means nothing. It was long before his coaching began that his family was under attack, his character, everything about him outside of the football world. Nothing was off limit to ridicule RichRod. So no, his record had nothing to do with a large number of the fanbase saying he was stupid because he had a southern accent

People thought he was an egomaniac because he played score-o at a hockey game. Do you remember shred-gate? When people were up in arms because he shredded documents at WV before leaving? There were numerous stories and topics on the MgoBoard about it. Then it turned out those documents were absolutely nothing and it wasn't a big deal. Those two things happened a year before he coached a game. Then there was the buyout situation and his failed real estate venture that he took plenty of heat for in the news and on blogs. Everything I've mentioned is something ridiculous that has nothing to do with his coaching at Michigan, all of which wouldn't have been a story if a "real Michigan man" were hired. People hated him the second he was hired for petty, ridiculous reasons. No, his record wasn't good here. But the number of people who think he just forgot how to coach football for 3 years and don't want to acknowledge he was treated like shit here for reasons having nothing to do with his record are delusional. He is one of the best coaches in the nation and somehow he sucked here. I wonder if it was him or us?

Your problem is that you are overgeneralizing.  Sure, there was the odd guy here and there who had an issue with him in 2008, but you are impugning the fanbase as a whole, which is simply not accurate or fair.

Jim harbaugh went 8-8 last year with San Fran. Either dysfunction within the Niners played a big part in that or he forgot how to coach. He lost to the Raiders! I have seen plenty of people on this board write off last year as invalid because the Niners front office is a bunch of idiots. Apparently that argument doesn't apply to RichRod and all the backstabbing he got while here

If it were an odd guy here or there, then there wouldn't be numerous stories about everything I mentioned in every paper. Our own ex players were distancing themselves from the program on Monday night football, saying they were from Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan, then promptly making up a bullshit excuse as to how they just wanted to show Lloyd some love.. Stories of seniors in RichRod's first year giving up on him and purposefully tanking. Numerous stories of how ex players got their feelings hurt and felt like they weren't welcome back, as if RichRod somehow told them not to show up. It wasn't just an odd guy here or there. We wouldn't be having this discussion if just a couple people didn't like him.

The yelling in practice stuff was the most significant thing to happen to RR that no one remembers, but it was discussed many times. That was what started the "RR erodes family values" thing. It caused a disconnect between him and area high school coaches and was a huge detriment to his program.

It's well remembered, but I don't think it started here.  Wasn't the "family values" thing one of the excuses of certain players (or player) who left for the wholesome atmosphere across the border?  And perhaps from parents, and players who complained to parents, and perhaps certain writers for certain papers who were observing practice and were shocked, yes shocked, at the lack of wholesomeness?

On the other hand, It's not necessarily great PR to have coaches speak like that in public, but back in Bo's day speaking like that to players wasn't made public and no one was cell-ing and tweeting and broadcasting from every corner.

...almost as much as you love double standards.

In the end, they were wrong for the hypocrisy. But you're equally as wrong for the blanket statement without knowing exactly why some, even many, of those folks were upset --- it wasn't just about yelling.

That's like me saying we hate Brady Hoke because he didn't wear a headset...no, many people didn't give a shit, but they didn't like that he didn't wear a headset AND had trouble communicating on the field at times, making adjustments from what his coaches in the booth saw at the last second, getting plays off in a timely manner, etc.

If he was able to do all of those things with no headset, I wouldn't have cared one bit that he didn't wear it...but no, he didn't wear it and stuggled in the areas where the damn piece of equipment would've helped! That's nuts!

"many many many people on this board"

On this board?  Nah man, your memory is confusing you.  When RR was hired the vast vast majority of people on this board were behind him, and when Boren transfer talking about how it wasn't a family atmosphere anymore, hardly anyone here was on Boren's side.

 Rivals... that's a different story.

Not until the end of the 2010 season.  Prior to then, the board was nearly unanimously behind RR.  The very few who criticised him were heavily negbanged.  Even GERG was untouchable for awhile.  2010 PSU was when that started to change.
