It's time to just make them co-coordinators and move on.

The fact that this is dragging like this is ridiculous.

Warde hired a first time head coach and he has done a horrible job preparing him for the first 30 days.

Right after Harbaugh left Sam said, if Minter left, the focus for the new DC was going to be someone who had called defensive plays before.  That is neither guy.  So, if we are trusting Sam, that always meant a new DC with departures likely. It should not be shocking that they would call Jim and see if they can get paid in LA.

Disagree. Warde could've had a much cleaner transition plan in place. One of the main selling goals was retaining as many people as possible.

Warde should've known every low/high contract demand from every assistant and had offer sheets drafted and ready for Moore to issue immediately. If Moore wanted them, he should've been able to quickly get these things done.

I just don't see how there's any possible way there was any 'transition' plan in place other than "I'll go with Sherrone..."

As long as Warde has the checkbook out and will pay for whoever Coach Moore wants, then I’ll be satisfied with the hires. However, if we are losing guys or not getting the guys Moore wants on his staff because Warde is trying to save a few hundred thousand, that’s when this thing will be a problem.

All the clowns here rooting on Harbaugh are probably the same idiots shouting FIRE WARDE all day. They’re not Michigan fans, they just love kissing Harbaugh’s feet. They’re embarrassing.

I know I’m gone get downvoted for this. But I am a little uncomfortable that Coach Moore doesn’t have some contacts around college football. It seems like he’s kind of at the mercy of Harbaugh. There arent any MAC or smaller school coaches he’s familiar with or… something? I want him to succeed more than anything. I also want this program to be HIS and not just Harbaugh lite.

This is my issue...I've started to pen some thoughts, but no one at Michigan seems prepared for this transition. There is no plan.

We could've capitalized on Moore and the positive energy with announcing a bunch of staff being retained right away. Moore should know what he wants to do with his staff by now. Who is coaching him up? Who is playing the role of PR at Michigan?

I understand vetting new coaches, but how have we not figured out our own staff by now?

Honestly, this is why I was skeptical of making Moore the head coach without actually doing a broader search. Not saying he isn't the right man for the job, but his lack of experience and connections always seemed to be an issue.

I understand wanting to maintain continuity and culture, but UM should have enough cache to reach out to more established and proven coaches. If the tradeoff for doing so is a loss of staff and players in the portal, then I would be willing to risk it for a potentially better long-term answer.

One thing I have come to learn during our years wandering in the darkness is that there are pretty much no "sure things" when it comes to replacing a head football coach at an institution like Michigan. That being said, due diligence is still important and I am not sure Warde did that in this case.

I fully support Coach Moore and I hope he has nothing but success leading this program. I am just a little edgy as this process moves forward.

Oh, and fire Warde.

From my comment on 1/27:

"The thing I will be most upset about in the transition is if Harbaugh strips out the coaching staff of the school that "he loves". Ugh. "

So yeah, I'm really torn.

On one side: National Championship, so Harbaugh's a hero. Also, our staff is (was?) awesome and deserves promotions if they want them. Also, Harbaugh is of course going to build the best staff he can. Lastly, as poster "MrWoodson" put so well, pay our coaches to stay, and maybe they will. But we clearly have a penny-pincher as AD.

On the other side: Harbaugh pushed for Moore. But the process was dragged out, lessening hiring choices, which are being further necessitated by Jim apparently targeting our best staff members.

That being said, Michigan could certainly up the ante to try and keep the coaches they want. Apparently (according to the scuttlebutt RE: Herbert) they are not.

So I think i come down on the side of Jim here, even though I don't feel great about it.

I know one thing for sure....I'm going to avoid thinking about the 2024 season for a bit, and still focus on NATIONAL CHAMPS. Yep, that'll work for me.

I'm not reading the entire thread to see if anyone's already made this point, but Moore can afford to be more deliberate with his coaching hires considering the players we're all worried about leaving don't have to enter the portal RIGHT NOW. The Harbaugh portal is open another two weeks, so they can bounce February 14th just as easily as they could have January 28th. Just something to consider when screaming that everyone's going to transfer if Sherrone doesn't lock his staff up by 9 pm last week.

It sounds to me like Moore doesn't want them as DC, and that's his decision. But we can't criticize him now for this decision. If we have a bad defense next season, then sure. But even if some players leave, that doesn't necessarily mean we will have a bad defense. There's a lot of way too early over-reacting going on right now. At least wait until we've lost a game or two (honestly I think Michigan will win 7-9 games in 2024 and I'm fine with that... before the portal no one would bat an eye at a down year after winning a championship and losing a bunch of players. If this crew buys into Sherrone and Michigan, their loyalty could give them an edge over the SEC mercenaries in years to come. If that means we have a down year every few years, so be it.)

Any thoughts to go for Wink Martindale? Surprised to see he is currently out of work. Big $$$ but knows the Ravens D! Prob bring a couple guys with him. Definite home run hire.

The changing NIL landscape and the uncertainty created each year by the transfer portal is causing many college coaches to look at the alternatives.

In the NFL you can just coach.  You don't have to worry about player acquisition at all, in most cases.  You don't even have to worry about sign stealing, the NFL uses headsets - problem solved.

The NCAA is now trying to enforce NIL rules that are vague and widely violated.  Anyone with success is going to have a target on their back.  Jim had to leave to protect UM in my opinion.

There is not much that Warde and Harbaugh agreed on, but one thing they did agree on was that Sherrone Moore was their hand-picked choice to succeed Harbaugh.

So why are they kneecapping him before he even gets started?

Give the man a break and not take his every last assistant, and then starve him for resources when he has to replace them.

I mean I will always be eternally grateful for Jim bringing a NC home but this frankly sucks. The timing of the decision screwed UM over in the transfer portal and poaching coaches left and right certainly doesn't help maintain continuity for Moore. It just really sucks that everything post NC is making the next HC's job harder so far instead of being a springboard to future success that a NC should be. I get why Jim is doing it because these guys helped him bring that NC home but like is it too much to ask to leave Moore something? There are alot of quality coaches out there for Jim to hire.

I hope this isn't true, but it probably is.

Harbaugh is a weird dude and always had been, I think expecting any loyalty was always a pipe dream.

Lets enjoy the national title and be happy that happened before he left.

So I’m a firm believer that Jim was telling warde this is my team and I’ll run it the way I want to and you hire who I want and promote who I want and have no say so. This is why warde wanted Jim out. QHe Couldn’t control Jim like he can Moore. Now that they are not making clink and elston co dcs jim is saying if your not going to give them what was promised to them being able to move up I’ll take them with me. Warde is now pulling the strings behind the scenes and if he’s not fired the football will suffer. I think Moore is a good coach but how much will he be able to do with warde pulling strings behind him.

It certainly sucks for us as Michigan fans but put yourself in the situation sports or otherwise… you’re building something and you want the best people possible and you worked with them at your previous employment… you’re not going to hire them ? … really ??? Be truthful or be foolish your choice

I am not surprised, though I find myself disappointed and frustrated at this prospect. It is reasonable to expect the outgoing coach to take much of his staff with him, especially if it is an "upgrade" (college to NFL).

If it comes out that Warde was the reason Harbaugh actually left, he should become persona non grata in Ann Arbor. If Moore doesn't work out, he could be responsible for imploding football and basketball. A lot of (hopefully terribly incorrect) speculation there, I know.
