HAPPY DRAFT DAY!

Submitted by TheTruth41 on April 23rd, 2020 at 10:10 AM

A day we can hopefully all come together, indoors, apart from each other and enjoy some semblance of normalcy in enjoying a live as close as we can get right now to a sporting event.

CBS mock draft has 1 good guy going in the 1st round.

Cesar Ruiz to the NY Giants (in a mock trade from San Fran)

1 good guy going in the 2nd round.

Josh Uche to the NY Jets.

What say you on this glorious day?  Will the Lions disappoint once again?  Surprise picks?  What will be feasting on?  Our preferred beverage of choice?

I say all this as it is about to thunderstorm in Nashville but can't nobody rain on my parade!  Because my parade is indoors...in my living room...on a TV...showing an event which is also indoors.

Draft Herbert to really screw up the other teams.

The Lions would make a killing in trades once their prized possession is off the board.

If no trade, then we have a QB of the future.

Heard something interesting the other day about how top left handed athletes get steered into baseball instead of other sports (mainly QBs in Football and to a lesser extant Basketball).

It does seem strange that there are hardly any left handed QBs in the NFL and who were the best lefties in the last 20 years in the NBA? Harden, Ginobili, Bosh?

I've seen estimates that only something like 10% of the population is left hand dominant globally, with some larger percentage having some degree of mix-handedness to some extent or another. If that's accurate, it's less surprising to me given the rarity of becoming an NFL qb in general. Being left handed doesn't provide you any real advantages in football and in fact complicates some aspects of the game.

Becoming a NFL qb is rare. Being left handed is rare. makes sense that being a left handed NFL qb is very rare.

Ive looked at way too much NFL draft coverage the last couple weeks with the lack of anything else that isnt corona being talked about anywhere.

That said the Lions and media have switched up their narrative in the last week or so when it comes to a trade. I believe the Tua slide is more than a smoke screen, or a smoke screen good enough to fool the Lions, and Quinn is not going to trade down. So in pure Lions fashion were either going to get a Top 10ish talent in Okudah or a top 15ish talent in Brown. Of course the Lions end up picking 3rd in a draft with two truly elite prospects.

Probably a minority opinion here, especially given lack of relevant lives sports, but I’ve never been able to get into the draft. It’s the same talking heads saying the same thing as they have for a couple months, mixed in with a few minutes of interesting moves by teams.

Basically I just root for Michigan players to land in good places.

I am looking forward to the draft.  I think Jon Runyon in the late rounds might be a steal for a team.  If he never starts you at least have a smart backup that can play R/L guard or right tackle.  I am looking forward to seeing which team picks him.

Big Mike O will also be interesting to see where he lands and how he is used.

Mike O is a guy who you could actually see being an NFL starter down the road. All the physical traits are there if someone can get the mental and technical part of his game to click. Hes one of those UDFA who actually has the tools to put it together and have a career. Or you'll just simply never hear of him again.

I need this... all the glory and over-drama of American capitalism will be a refreshing change from being a news junky

the draft has always been like a Detroit Lion Superbowl to me

Will the Detroit Lions pull another draft like TE Hockinson of last year? They are full of surprises and often prove the draft pundits wrong. We'll know soon.

The PFF mock I watched yesterday had Uche going to the Patriots in the first, then Caesar going with the last pick in the first round. Go Blue!!

Best case for the Lions is to trade with Miami and still get Okudah or Simmons and pick up Miami’s 26th pick and use it to snag Taylor, who should be on the board still. Use the 2nd round pick to take the best available OT, which the draft is loaded with this year.

Worst case for the Lions is they trade with the Patriots and take it up the ass.

Most likely is no trades and get Okudah, though I think Simmons has a higher ceiling.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest the possibility the Lions neither need, want, nor draft Tua with the #3 pick. There are several teams that desperately wish to trade up, and trade the farm for that pick, and since the Lions have needs everywhere, I think they're likely to trade and draft half a roster instead. I think the only way the Lions use the #3 pick is if, for some crazy reason, the Redskins don't draft Young.

I'm sure the Lions will make the wrong pick again, like they have for decades. I'm sure they will draft someone who should of went in the 3rd round as their 1st round pick.

If the Lions are smart, they'll entertain offers to trade down if they're there. I'd see if the Dolphins or Chargers want to get into a bidding war over getting into that #3 spot for Herbert, move down to #5 or #6, and likely still grab your guy in Okudah anyway. But its the Lions so they'll probably draft Sean McKeon at #3 overall and call it an evening.

I'm thinking we will see quite a few trades up into the top-10 tonight. There's going to be a run on OL tonight, and I could see a team like Tampa trading up to make sure they get one of the four best guys so they can protect Brady. I could see Atlanta trading up as well to make sure they get one of the top two DL on the board or a corner, and I also wouldn't be surprised to see Tua drop into the teens. I think teams are more concerned about his injuries than most realize.

I bet Cesar goes in the 20s tonight, and I did see a mock somewhere of the Packers taking DPJ in the first, based off of his combine results, but I'm guessing Cesar is the only Wolverine hearing his name called tonight. I bet we hear Uche's and DPJ's name tomorrow.

If Tua cant stay healthy with a pro line at Bama, he is going to live on the IR in the pro's. I don't like any of the QB's, average arms. Get the corner from Ohio or Young.
