Gattis still making 100% of the calls?

Submitted by Lakeyale13 on September 21st, 2019 at 6:01 PM

I can't believe this is true.  No way Gattis calls for Ben Mason to run the ball inside the 10.  That has Harbaugh's delusional arse all over it.

Where is the speed in space!?  If JH isn't allowing him to run his own offense I would be shouting it in all media outlets that this isn't my offense.  If not, he isn't going to be able to get another job after Michigan.

Looked like JH took over playcalling the 2nd half -- he had the cards on the sideline after they came out at halftime.

P.S. Like the majority of threads on the board at the moment, this thread is terrible. You so-called fans are pathetic and should be ashamed.

Gattis is a first time playcaller and never ran his own offense before. I don’t know why people expected him to not have some struggles his first year doing the job.

JH is meddling. It doesn't make sense that Gattis who learned under Moorehead and Locksley calls some of the plays he does. Harbaugh is calling plays too.

Harbaugh said they were "going all the way" with this offense. He lied. This is another half-assed hybrid. He gave up going under center and huddling but kept his slow pace and heavy use of multiple TE formations.

That changed the game. We're looking at 7-7 but instead, it goes to 14-0 and eventually 35-0. When it hit 21-0, I think UM knew it was over. With our offense, they knew they would not come back. Also, that video clip of Shea's saying the offense was looking to make a statement will be an unforgivable meme for a long time.

I don’t see anything wrong with the Mason goal line package.  It worked last year.  And he was gaining yards, fighting for extra yards on that play.  Then...the fumble.  Aargh.  Them’s the breaks man.

Not sure it would have mattered if we did score there.  We couldn’t stop their offense.  And our O-line was overwhelmed by their stunts and tricks and strength.

Before this year, Gattis had never installed an offense at any level of football.

Before this year, Gattis had never called a play at any level of football.

Anyone can tweet #SpeedInSpace, it is literally meaningless in terms of evaluating how a coach will call a game.

Maybe Harbaugh is dictating specific calls, or general strategies; maybe he's not.  But it is entirely possible that this is 100% Gattis.  Unless you count tweeting slogans as a significant data point, we have no evidence that Gattis doesn't call games this way when given full reign.

A statement like, "No way Gattis calls for Ben Mason..." has no evidence backing it; none whatsoever.  Maybe the imaginary version of Gattis that you have in your head based on offseason reports from practices wouldn't call that play, but for the real life Gattis, we simply have no evidence to support that.

We have evidence that Gattis's mentors do NOT favor multi-TE formations with only 2 wideouts. They don't play at a slow pace. We have evidence that Harbaugh values these things and always has. I think it's pretty easy to see what is going on here.

harbaugh calls entirely shotgun offenses with no fullbacks?

harbaugh calls a majority pass plays, even when the game was [briefly] close?

this is absurd. the only thing that you can point to that you feel is similar to a harbaugh offense is that it's not working.

"harbaugh's offense" fucking paved this same wisconsin team to the tune of 300+ rushing yards last year.

Here's the sequence on Coach Cam:

https://youtu.be/BnXnNRBOrwo?t=1259

starts at 21:00 with Ronnie Bell's 70 yard reception.

the next play is incomplete slant to Nico

the next play michigan lines up with Mason and then has to take a time out.

harbaugh is pretty clearly NOT calling plays before the timeout.

during the timeout, he's talking a lot. maybe to Gattis or the team. hard to tell.

regardless, the play was called before the timeout and they came back in the same exact formation.

so, yes, I believe Gattis made that play call.

Did you see the amount of passing in this game? Look I’m not saying harbaugh isn’t the problem overall but it’s pretty obvious he’s not calling all these passes.

I’d he called the mason plays it was with a JH hand on his shoulder...that play was an a disgrace...kids been practicing at DL all year let’s five him a week of practice in the back field hand off inside the 10?  Not doing that kid any favors.

Probably the worst thing Jim could do is to yank play calling from Gattis.  He needs to help Gattis get through this.  Who will want the job if you undermine them when the going gets tough?

I don't know who is calling what play on the sideline.  What I do know .... the communication between Harbaugh and Gattis during game time is not working out well.  Inconsistent play calling between last years power game, and this years spread.  As a fan I am confused.  Can't imagine the players who are trying to execute it.

Too much wrong with this team. I feel sorry for Gaddis is JH is doing more play calling.

The issues with this team go way beyond who's calling offensive plays.
