Friday Night B1G Football in 2017

Delany said the league is reluctant to ask schools with giant seating capacities to host Friday night games, so don’t expect games to be played at Ohio State or Penn State.
And Michigan is flat-out saying no to Friday night games, both home and road. Delany said he believes the school simply prefers Saturday games for “consistency of presentation.”
Delany said there will be three conference games and three non-league games in September and October. No team will play more than twice.

When is this clown retiring?

I'd like that too, but don't see much of an opportunity for one. First game of the season is out, as is MSU, OSU and Rutgers (HC) so that leaves us with Air Force or Minnesota (early November) is be cool with Minny, but I doubt that would happen. 2018 might be a better chance, you know we have PSU and Wisconsin....never mind.

The Big Ten is talking about 12 saturday night primetime games for ESPN/Fox.  I think there's a pretty decent chance in order to avoid Friday nights, we may have to cave on our Saturday night stinginess.  Could see Air Force (assuming that's in one of those non-conference heavy weeks with few good games), or even MSU.

I always saw Thursday/Friday night games for teams looking for a national audience, something Michigan does not need to seek out.

If Big Ten teams want to play on Friday nights that should be up to the team for non-conference and be agreed on by both teams for conference games. The Big Ten should not dictate who plays on Friday nights.

I'm glad we aren't doing the Friday night thing but we weren't too upset with the Thursday night game against Utah were we?  Or am I not remembering correctly?  I didn't particularlly like that time slot but I don't recall a lot of complaints.

Good for Manuel.  We have zero reason to go along with this bullcrap.  I hope he keeps beating the drum about fixing the MSU series as well.

I legitimately can't wait for the lesser schools to bitch about this one.

I'm fine with Thurs/Fri for week 1 road games and that's it. First game of CFB @Utah was cool in all ways except the final score.

Can someone explain to me why night games are a bad thing? I agree that Friday night games are bad because of recruits playing their games and people work and might not be able to make the game but Warde has said no to Saturday night games as well and I just dont understand that.

Were you stuck in three hours of traffic in the wee hours of the morning after UTL #1?

I don't think Manuel has categorically said No to night games, he just said there wouldn't be any night games at M Stadium this season ...putting to bed the idea of Penn State or CU being a night game.

The prevailing opinion around A2 is that night games are a logistical challenge moreso than Saturday games and for a myriad of reasons along with a dash of GetOffMyLawn! tossed in!

Due to the rain we had sort of scrambled to park and wound up near Stadium & State.  It took 2.5hours to get from that parking spot to Miller & Newport and the majority of that time was spent on 7th, literally crawling as cars alternated in and all the intersections had gone to flashing red/yellow because it was 2am on Sunday.

It was brutal.  We could have walked home quicker.  And I understand there were issues between the AAPD and University about traffic logistics but there was absolutely no post-game help at all.

No way AA Pioneer could be ready for a Friday night game, unless it was a day off school for them.  The logistics of trying to get high school students out while letting RVs in for tailgating are just about impossible.  Moreso if Pioneer has any sort of activities on Friday night, like say, a high school football game.

Delany might not be the brightest light, but that is a completely hyperbolic statement. Delany isn't even CLOSE to the worst in history. Even if you like Goodell better than Delany, you've got Gary Bettman anchoring the NHL right now, plus a history's worth of characters like Bud Selig to draw upon.

I'm fine with MICHIGAN playing on Friday Night provided that the opponent's stadium is shared with a MLB franchise that has made the playoffs and presents a conflict for the more traditional Saturday kick-off.

Absolutely fine by me.

I don't know what our specific reason was, but I'd greatly prefer to have an actual football gameday to enjoy, rather than having to rush home after work, get changed, and then go to a Michigan football game.  100,000 fans coming in during rush hour afternoon traffic sounds like all kinds of fun.

There's also the business of the student-athletes having to travel a day earlier and miss more class time when they have a game on Friday - not that Delany would care, of course.

I'm pretty indifferent overall towards this. But the reactions here are laughable.

"Midweek games are for the MAC." Yes, because Friday is now midweek and the ACC and PAC-12 don't play Thursday/Friday night games every week...

I miss the good old days, when the only reason Michigan would play on a Friday night was if we were playing at Minnesota and the Twins had a home playoff game.

I'm not a fan of Friday night games. But I pretty sure Delany is doing his job as dictated by the board. And that job is to maximize revenue.

Isn't this a really, really stupid thing to do as regards the BTN?  One of the most important - maybe the most important - pieces of content for the BTN is Saturday football that the prime networks don't have room for.  If Fox, ESPN, etc. take more games, the BTN can't carry them and is relegated to showing "Legends of Northwestern" or some schlock on Saturday afternoons that can't compete.

I suppose this can be easily remedied by adding like six more teams to the conference, in which case fuck you Delany even more than before.
