Football canceling spring trip over coronavirus concerns
If they win something this year (good!) the somehow do more practice instead of showing these kids the world horde will be taking so many victory laps (bad!).

That ridiculousness was espoused by one Mr Gene Smith, OSU's erstwhile Athletic Director.
February 24th, 2020 at 9:10 PM ^
Gene Smith is presently OSU's athletic director.

I didn't realize they were planning a trip to Mexico
February 24th, 2020 at 6:50 PM ^
Focus on beating Ohio state and fuck these trips. I would rather go 2-10 and beat Ohio state and sparty than to go 9-3 again and lose to those fuckers! And if your wondering if I’m serious yes I’m serious! Beat Ohio state!!
February 24th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
No you aren't. You say that because you firmly believe that it's not possible for us to go 2-10 with a win over OSU. You would be highly upset. And unfortunately the trips have zero to do with beating or not beating OSU.
February 24th, 2020 at 7:50 PM ^
I'm not wondering if you're serious.
I'm wondering if you've suffered a closed-head injury.
February 24th, 2020 at 8:19 PM ^
Preventing college students from experiencing a foreign culture and traveling the world helps us beat OSU in what way?
February 24th, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
A Michigan team that is 0-10 against other teams would not be capable of beating OSU or MSU. Regardless, there is zero percent chance you would be okay with being 2-10 every season. You're full of it.

"And if your wondering"
If you truly have any connection to U-M Medicine, God help the patients in your care.
February 25th, 2020 at 8:34 AM ^
Remember when we were beating OSU before the trips?
February 24th, 2020 at 6:52 PM ^
Good! Concentrate on getting Milton and McCaffery ready for the season!
February 24th, 2020 at 7:34 PM ^
I would say that the collective IQ of this site is now a full thirty points lower than it was at its 2004 inception.
February 24th, 2020 at 8:50 PM ^
That's very generous. I'd put it higher than that.
February 24th, 2020 at 9:27 PM ^
Since the collective IQ of the country is around 30 points lower than it was in 2004, I’d say that sounds about right.
February 24th, 2020 at 7:01 PM ^
First iPhone delays, now this? Damn you Wuhan, damn you
February 24th, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
Smart move.
Though I would like them still to take a trip this spring, even if it's just in this country. Maybe someplace like out west or up north Michigan.
February 24th, 2020 at 8:55 PM ^
Bay City or Flint.
February 24th, 2020 at 11:22 PM ^
More like Traverse City/the UP.

Probably for the best. Look at Iran right now. They are beginning to have an outbreak of Coronavirus cases. IM pretty sure one of the Americans who contracted the virus got it in Iran before anybody really knew it had made its way there. You don't even have to travel to China now to get the virus and things will probably get worse in the coming weeks
Just use the trip money to buy croots
February 24th, 2020 at 8:58 PM ^
If you visit Iran you shouldn’t be allowed back
February 24th, 2020 at 10:28 PM ^
Yeah, fuck dem Persians!
February 24th, 2020 at 10:39 PM ^
Agreed. There are some nations of this world that, as an American, you deserve whatever you get if you are stupid enough to set foot in their lands.
Case in point: why in the ever loving fuck would you ever visit North Korea as an American? And yet somehow, some Americans are foolish enough to do it. A place where you can be arrested, imprisoned, and beaten into a coma and left to die just because.
I’m sure visiting is a unique experience, but certainly not one that I’m willing to risk getting 30 years of hard labor over. Their land, their rules.

Iran is an unusual case because they have a significant number of elderly men that have lungs damaged by the chemical weapons Saddam Hussein used during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War.
That lung-damaged population is going to be hugely affected by this.
February 24th, 2020 at 7:13 PM ^
Maybe now they can schedule an actual spring game?
February 24th, 2020 at 7:35 PM ^
Maybe now Jim can introduce himself to Donovan Edwards.
February 24th, 2020 at 7:16 PM ^
Well, look on the bright side, that leaves more opportunity for a tee time this spring.
*ducks*

They should go to the total immersion Star Wars hotel that’s going to open at Disney World.

February 24th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
An overseas trip would be cheaper
February 24th, 2020 at 7:32 PM ^
True, but you wouldn’t get the experience of being in an enclosed environment, around amped up children and Star Wars fans who take the films way too seriously, for 72 straight hours.

My grand kids thought that Legoland was the bomb.
February 24th, 2020 at 7:29 PM ^
Can someone send the OSU team on a trip to China? Maybe LeBron wants to, we know how he loves China.
February 24th, 2020 at 7:37 PM ^
Where were they headed?
February 24th, 2020 at 9:04 PM ^
Japan, I think (although the DetNews article suggests it was undetermined).
February 25th, 2020 at 3:07 AM ^
I heard China and Japan! To visit the Great Wall. I wonder how far away this is from weapon lab or the people who eat bat soup or snake in Wuhan, China.
February 24th, 2020 at 8:17 PM ^
I'm sorry but this is a JH stunt, I knew about this weeks ago when he told the team. Apparently they are doing volunteer work in Ann Arbor instead. Two of the possible trips this year were in the US. My guess is that the people who were paying for this told JH to get bent. Honestly this is one of the only things he's done right in the last few years. The early enrollees should be pissed, they missed spring sports, prom and all the cool end of the year activities for this shit show. Open practice will be fun.
February 24th, 2020 at 8:35 PM ^
"Insider" alert!
February 24th, 2020 at 10:29 PM ^
Canceling the trip is a stunt?
February 24th, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
How can I trust your an insider?
February 24th, 2020 at 8:43 PM ^
What UM fan complained about this trip?
February 24th, 2020 at 10:35 PM ^
You know that the trip has nothing to do with Spring practice. Only the very first one did.
February 24th, 2020 at 11:06 PM ^
This is a smart move.

I traveled to Cincinnati on Jan 14 for 3 days on business, staying at the old Art Deco Hilton downtown. On the 3rd day a couple of hours before I left, I came down with something. By the time I got on the plane...I was coughing non-stop, could not stop it. My body ached all over and I ran fever. I got home to LA and could not get out of bed for 5 days. I drank fluids constantly. I coughed violently all day, every day. My body hurt all over. I had no appetite for food.
This was the same week we started hearing about Coronavirus in China.
I feel that I may have come in contact with Coronavirus on that trip to Cincinnati. It was worse than any flu that I have gotten by far.
February 25th, 2020 at 3:01 AM ^
I think you just had influenza B
February 25th, 2020 at 2:59 AM ^
It is another time to buy some stocks on this dip! I don't think it will spread rapidly in the US until late next Autumn and by then the anti-virus will be produced over the summer. Just remember to get your corona virus shot next fall.
February 25th, 2020 at 7:18 AM ^
People do realize that a majority of the people who have come in contact with the virus have recovered, yes?
