Some of the worst I have EVER seen call a college game.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:07 PM ^
It honestly really is one of the worst I’ve seen. Turned the game into an unwatchable mess. Fortunately it happened in a game that was a win and didn’t really matter.
Still made my blood pressure unnecessarily high though.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:08 PM ^
LOL exactly. It was fine, it just made me miserable. College football.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:12 PM ^
Honestly is was so shitty, even if they were screwing SMU instead of us I would be just as pissed. They ruined the game
September 15th, 2018 at 7:36 PM ^
I agree they were throwing flags for every little thing.. review everything it was horrible to watch a lot of ball calls. I mean there was some legit calls but they where far few and between.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
The reffing was outrageous. Every single pass interference call was BS. The roughing the passer penalty was BS. The targeting call was BS. The calls were responsible for at least 14 of SMU's points. Literally the worst-called game I have ever watched in living memory, and that includes OSU 2016.
UPDATE: I understand the refs were from the Sun Belt conference. How do we allow this?
September 15th, 2018 at 10:13 PM ^
And what sucks is that BS targeting penalty carries over to the first half of the Nebraska game for Hudson.
September 15th, 2018 at 11:33 PM ^
Sun Belt! Remember the Alamo Bowl?
September 16th, 2018 at 12:13 AM ^
According to the rule, Hudson’s targeting call was targeting. I hate the automatic ejection, but that is the dumb rule that is in place. It was clear helmet to helmet. I don’t see how anyone can say otherwise.
September 16th, 2018 at 1:13 AM ^
Because it refers to the crown of the helmet. Though according to the announcers, they've expanded the definition of crown to mean basically the entire helmet.
I agree with the spirit of the rule, but the enforcement is getting absurd, just like the new sack rules in the NFL. At some point we have to let them play the game and understand that in a violent sport people will get hurt from time to time.
September 16th, 2018 at 10:19 AM ^
Sun Belt? Certainly not. All 8 of the refs on the field were Big Ten refs.
The "L" (Line Judge), Patrick Holt, and the "C" (Center Judge), Mike Stumberg, were actually in the National Championship game in January.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:06 PM ^
Lol. One more shit roughing passer penalty for the road! Hahahahaha
September 15th, 2018 at 7:07 PM ^
They were not good. Not good. But yea. Expected.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:08 PM ^
Somehow I don’t see that many PI calls against the home team if this was in East Lansing
September 15th, 2018 at 7:11 PM ^
Unreal. They made it closer than it ever should have been.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:12 PM ^
Automatic ejections for targeting really, really needs to be addressed. Call a penalty, tack on some yards, but don't take the chance to play the game away from some kids because of a split second reaction that is almost never intentional.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:35 PM ^
Exactly. This is a stupid rule. Also, I hate replay.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
Actually, he INTENTIONALLY led with his SHOULDER. He even lost time on the hit by turning his body to make sure. It's a crime against humanity that he got ejected.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:52 PM ^
Exactly what the play by play guys said. I mean you could clearly see him lead with his shoulder and their heads just happened to collide. Not targeting. So what now, any time helmets touch they’re going to call targeting??
September 15th, 2018 at 10:02 PM ^
Yes, there needs to be two levels of targeting. The more severe gets you ejected, while the less severe is just a 15-yarder.
September 15th, 2018 at 10:26 PM ^
Agree with this. There’s a huge difference with aggressive and unnecessary vs. happening in the midst of a play. The other thing I would love addressed is the ejection in the second half affecting the next game. I’d get it if it was some crazy ass brawl at the end of the game, but middle of the third quarter, come on, what at that point is being enforced. The player is ejected for the game.
September 15th, 2018 at 10:27 PM ^
Agreed! Tackling in the pile is much different then hitting a defenseless received going over the middle
September 15th, 2018 at 7:13 PM ^
Worst refs ever, thats saying a lot as we have seen a lot of games in East Lansing, Columbus and South Bend.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:14 PM ^
Those SMU boosters are alive and well.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
I hope Brian points out the one sidedness next week.
One play in the first half where a michigan player was spun like a top from a hold and the SMU back ran for a nice gain.
Half of the penalties were a joke. Like they were doing all they can to give SMU a chance.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:16 PM ^
Those guys were responsible for a lot of M 'fans' talking a LOT of shit on the game thread today. Shit like "Don Brown sucks" and "our secondary is shit"... Take away the shit officiating and the game is totally out of hand - more so than it was anyway.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:20 PM ^
Absolutely. With a fairly called game, the final is 63-10
September 16th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
Ignore them. They clearly don’t know what the fuck to look at during a game.
Drunk arm chair QBs that don’t know the game = headaches for the rest of us
September 15th, 2018 at 7:19 PM ^
They gave us a spot for a first down we didn't actually get and then threw a flag on their coach for complaining. They also called penalties or incompletions on SMU that took 2 of their scores off the board. This is not a game to complain about the refs.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:35 PM ^
The truth gets negged here!!!! WTF!!!! SMDH. Must be the "real" Michigan fans. Win by 32 and complain about the refs.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:42 PM ^
32? Lol
September 15th, 2018 at 8:12 PM ^
Well I missed the last td by SMU forgive me. 25 and still complaining. LOL. You get the point....I guess. Maybe not. Whatever makes you happy homer. Bet you loved the fake first down didnt ya.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:04 PM ^
Michigan scored the last TD in the game... If you missed the last SMU touchdown you would have also either missed the last Michigan one and gotten the margin correct or seen Michigan score and would then know the true score.
Normally this is pointless pettiness, but you seem like a scummy, arrogant POS so I don't really care!
September 15th, 2018 at 9:12 PM ^
Yes I did miss that one also. Obviously it is pointless enough for you to comment you scummy arrogant fuckwad. So you do care. I love your pettiness tho.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
Sorry snowflake.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:54 PM ^
You can agree that we got some good calls and still complain about the refs. Btw the SMU coach got the flag because he had F-Ed up and didn’t have any time outs left to get it reviewed.
The 3Q spot for SMU - (that was overturned on review) was even worse than the one M got — at least there was a mass of bodies and pushing and shoving after Evans was first stopped to cloud the view of the officials.
The worst part of this crew imo was that it seemed like there were a lot of late flags - both on PI vs. M and holds vs. SMU - that seemed to come only after it was clear that the play would have a big impact. Throw the flag or don’t — have some cajones.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:06 PM ^
This is a straw man argument. I don’t think literally every call went against us. I do think this crew’s super-tight standard for PI disproportionately affected us, though.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:21 PM ^
Is this a joke? They got into position for those scores because of questionable PI calls. Fruit of a poisoned tree.
SMU somehow got less penalties than UM despite being an markedly inferior team on the road.
That is...unusual.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:21 PM ^
Yes. I was looking for a refs snow flake post. This will do. I have never seen this many blatantly bad calls. What did Jim Harbaugh do in a past life to deserve this?
Maybe I'm just having memory issues, but I can't remember this many bad calls with Bo or Lloyd.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
The officiating was terrible, so instead of being so disappointed in the team, I’m going to throw this game up to poor refs and an underwhelming opponent.
Some of the PI calls weren’t catchable passes, yet instead of picking up the flag they gave first downs to SMU. It was a shit show out there.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:26 PM ^
Where was this crew from? I couldn’t believe the marginal crap they were calling.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:30 PM ^
Ohio.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:26 PM ^
Well a win is a win right? UM was gifted a faux first down that led to a TD. I guess 45-13 is not good enough when it is our God gifted right to win by 46 plus huh. We win by 32 and complain about the officiating. GEESH!!!!! And I thought Texas fans were the worst ones complaining about the refs.
September 15th, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
there are complaints because the refs sucked. if those are pass interference plays then why bother playing defense? i have never seen refs this bad , and i have seen , coached and played alot of football. should it just be ignored because michigan won the game. refs need to be held accountable for being incompatent.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:15 PM ^
Well ok football god. They will not be held accountable and your point is moot. If so maybe they can go back and reverse "the spot" against OSU and Michigan wins. Wishful thinking tho.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:07 PM ^
Christ I hope you're just drunk. There's just something about how you talk in every post that just gives off the most obnoxious, asshole-ish vibe.
edit: was curious and took a short stroll through the 'ole post history... Nope, you're just a scummy guy.
September 15th, 2018 at 9:16 PM ^
Thank you. Glad you took the time to browse my history. I could give two shits less what you think internet poster scummy guy. See how that works snowflake asshole. :)
September 16th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
Ah, the internet. Where someone can claim not to give a shit what people think while spending hours commenting because he's mad that people called the refs bad.
September 16th, 2018 at 12:05 AM ^
You're bad at the internet.
September 15th, 2018 at 8:42 PM ^
It can be BOTH a badly officiated game and a comfortable if ugly win for Michigan. Like, just because I get comped the meal doesn't take away the fact there was a dead mouse in my sandwich.
