Eli Brooks Player of the Game
I know it will never happen, but some day I want Eli to go off like he did today and end the game with a dunk and say to the other team... "Game....Blouses...."
For the Gen Zers who are too young to remember The Chappelle Show, here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff8LEx9Mw54

24 points on 9/14 shooting. His confidence and offensive prowess have both been shockingly awesome!
November 28th, 2019 at 7:11 PM ^
As even shit-for-brains Dickie V noted, that triple he hit after Carolina pulled within 69-61 was the "dagger".
Three Dog Night would do well to serenade Mr. Brooks...because for plenty of our future opponents, EB's "card" says---a broken heart!
November 28th, 2019 at 4:02 PM ^
But is he going to make pancakes for the opposing team afterwards?
November 28th, 2019 at 4:34 PM ^
Want some grapes? Bitches...
November 28th, 2019 at 4:03 PM ^
No question about it - wow, what a game he had!
It appears we have 3 really good guards - what a great luxury!
November 28th, 2019 at 4:03 PM ^
We are an extremely deep team! Go Blue! Hail Howard!
November 28th, 2019 at 4:09 PM ^
Credit to the recruiting and development of John Beilein, and for Howard and Co. to build on the foundation left behind.
November 28th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
The success of this team is a testimony to the job that Coach Howard and his staff are doing. Otherwise, quit hedging on this fact-they deserve a huge lion's share of the credit here.

If you do not know the Chappelle show, and cannot pick up references to this American classic, please go to you local Borders, get season 1,2 DVD’s, wait nvm
November 28th, 2019 at 4:08 PM ^
It's rare that pop culture is truly classic and transcendent, but that show is. And like all great artists, his gift apparently drove Chappelle mad.... ;-)

I had the mud butt
November 28th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch
November 28th, 2019 at 4:13 PM ^
Best part?
He will likely be back next year! The future is bright.
November 28th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
Actually if he keeps playing like this, he could be headed one level up.
November 28th, 2019 at 4:13 PM ^
Does Eli get an MVP trophy in the shape of Maizen’s avatar?
November 28th, 2019 at 5:43 PM ^
I remember when Maizen was railing on Beilein’s recruiting and said Teske and Simpson were not any good after their freshmen season. Lol

Hes got some Vinnie Johnson in him.. good shooter, not afraid to shoot and he brings great energy

Howard>>>>>everyone else!
November 28th, 2019 at 4:16 PM ^
I'm going to have to give it to Franz. The way he managed to stay in the game was incredible.
November 28th, 2019 at 5:22 PM ^
There is a rhyme to Coach Howard's reason here. The man is putting on a coaching clinic and we're adrift with whiners-quite the deal!
November 28th, 2019 at 7:02 PM ^
...and let us not lose sight of the fact that he almost hurdled a dude on the way to the rim, even though the resulting foul was on him.
November 28th, 2019 at 4:16 PM ^
Where the peeps from the game thread "wondering why he's playing so much"?!
November 28th, 2019 at 4:28 PM ^
If he can keep this up, this will be one of the biggest surprises I can remember. He was a nobody last year, and struggled when given the opportunity, I thought he was destined for a PT transfer. Give credit where it’s due, this kid has some amazing work ethic to develop his game from where it was last year to where it is now.
Attaboy Eli!
November 28th, 2019 at 4:46 PM ^
Give Brooks all the credit but I think he had a lot of this and it just wasn’t translating for whatever reason in the old system/regime.
Howard’s offense and coaching style look to be a better fit for Brooks and DDJ in particular.
November 28th, 2019 at 5:14 PM ^
Brooks was very valuable on the defensive end last season. He's played with confidence right out of the gate this season. That seemed to be his biggest issue in the past. Maybe the confidence started with his decision to stay.
November 28th, 2019 at 9:47 PM ^
It was obvious to me that last year, that his non ideal performance was due to being in Simpsons shadow somewhat, and rightly so, but it just didn't mesh. Brooks is a very good player and I had to say it repeatedly to the haters here... it isn't a coincidence that he thrived after Simpson fouled out. He is good player... and by the way, so is DeJulius.... both those guys took it to UNC, especially late.. they looked to be the best players on the court, and that is saying something. We are in great hands next year after Simpson is gone.
November 29th, 2019 at 9:07 AM ^
We knew he was a good player because National Championship winning Villanova fought hard for him in recruiting. I think his early trouble here was the learning curve Beilein guards have always had. That transition, and the (seemingly) looser play under Howard, appear to have lit off his confidence. We saw the beginning late last year with his defensive play, and now we're seeing the complete package - what both Beilein and Jay Wright saw from him in high school.

Eli is a dog.
November 28th, 2019 at 4:40 PM ^
I always thought this kid had a lot of upside. Even after all the bashing he’s taken the last few years.
November 28th, 2019 at 4:41 PM ^
He just barely beat out Tyrese Halliburton for it.
November 28th, 2019 at 5:00 PM ^
I have always been a Brooks fan going back to his high school tape. Nice to see him finally get some love and acknowledgement from UM fans.
November 28th, 2019 at 6:30 PM ^
Me too. You could tell that he is a player. He was just making a big jump up from high school level of speed/competition to D1. Bajama is facing a similar transition this year and is going to have a similar outcome. He too, will be huge for us at some point.

Ok boomer
November 28th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
Boomers were, on average, about 50+ years old when the Chappelle Show came out. Very far from the target market for the show. I'm a Gen Xer, you silly Millennial, and more often than not on your side... ;-)
November 28th, 2019 at 7:26 PM ^
I think “ok boomer” at this point just means “I disagree.”
November 28th, 2019 at 7:42 PM ^
OK boomer...
November 28th, 2019 at 9:11 PM ^
Millennial here. If you think Chappelle is "OK, boomer" status, then you're a fucking idiot.
Secondly, learn how to use the phrase correctly FFS.
November 28th, 2019 at 5:08 PM ^
Came through and put the nail in the coffin!!
November 28th, 2019 at 6:15 PM ^
Right up the ass of all the Brooks naysayers here.
November 28th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
And you can add Sam Webb to that list. Sam has harped on Brooks being a low ceiling guy. The MVP of an upset W over the Tar Heels almost by definition cannot have a low ceiling.
November 28th, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
There were a few times last season, that I thought it was obvious that Brooks was the best player on the court to me, but the offense ran through Simpson, and it wasn't working for both. So be it. Sam was wronger than wrong and am looking forward to hearing him say so on the radio.

Shouldn't this have been an Appreciation Thread?
November 28th, 2019 at 7:02 PM ^
He's the basketball version of Ronnie Bell, people always asking why he's out there when he's really balling.
November 29th, 2019 at 1:42 AM ^
I feel like Bell received more of the Blake O'Neil treatment. Objectively really good player who had one bad moment (not on the scale of O'Neil, but still). I think a football equivalent for Eli would be like if Jeremy Jackson became our #1 receiver his senior year. Seemed a transfer was more likely than becoming a star, but here he is..
November 28th, 2019 at 7:25 PM ^
Eli is probably going to be the starting 2 guard when Franz comes back. Just a hunch.
November 28th, 2019 at 8:45 PM ^
Can’t tell if you’re trolling Franz or if you didn’t realize he has already returned.
November 28th, 2019 at 11:47 PM ^
Neither. Just unfunny call back to discussions before Franz returned. But he was not good today.
November 28th, 2019 at 7:36 PM ^
Eli’s form on 3s looked so good today. Just pure.
