[*edited*] Meta: Can we have a Harbaugh rumors snowflake thread?

Submitted by zh2oson on January 20th, 2022 at 2:36 PM

Everyone has thoughts and we're all reading the same tea leaves on Twitter, the pay sites, the Athletic, etc...

Can we just create a Snowflakes thread for all of this, please?

[EDIT:  We're going to try a one thread per day policy as a catch-all for that day's Harbaugh 'staying or leaving?' rumors. Only exceptions will be if and when there's a verified report of Harbaugh signing an extension or a contract, whichever may be the case, or if he makes a public statement on his coaching status.

We will be open to making adjustments to this 'policy' as the situation evolves. -rob f]

The problem would be that "real" news may get buried under the fluff (still actual news but trivial) & rumors (feelings & fake news).

Fair point, but I'll take that chance 100 times out of 100. The Harbaugh fluff, rumors, supposed "sources," and general palace intrigue on this board has reached absurd levels. And it's often the same posters posting slightly modified versions of the same non-news or snowflake opinions. Do we really need a 14th thread about who should be our next head coach IF Harbaugh takes an NFL job? Do we really need a thread every time some hack has "sources" whispering in his ear that Harbaugh might leave or would listen to NFL offers?

Good call, OP. I vote YES.

I know it hasn’t been a while since the website was updated, but we desperately need a Reddit style sorting for both the threads on the board and comments within a thread in order to have a combination of most engaged/recent activity float to the top. We tend to have new threads posted because good bits of info would get buried on page 4 of some 3 day old thread

The fact that we have this thread suggests maybe we've hit "Maximum Harbaugh Departure Anxiety"

I still believe JH stays, and that Raiders "move on" over the weekend.

It's an interesting thought, but I think the threads where people are simply musing over "what if" scenarios and not even bothering to present a specific rumor have been far more numerous and bothersome than the threads where people are in fact posting the latest morsel, recycled or novel.

DIrectionless philosophizing is an MGoBlog staple, but when applied to Harbaugh.....yikes....

I agree with this. The "what if" posts are annoying. But "latest morsel" threads keep me hitting F5. I want to hear the latest scuttlebutt. User hatesparty (I think) posted in one recent thread something to the effect that a booster he knew said that a Harbaugh announcement was being held back until the Schlissel and Anderson items subsided. Double hearsay? Triple? Maybe, but it's offseason and I want to read the latest about Harbaugh's decision even if it's speculation. I don't regularly get on twitter, etc. for such things. I want mgoblog "unverified voracity".

I'm becoming more interested in what the plan is IF Harbaugh leaves. My guess is at this point an internal hire is the most logical option to keep the staff together unless Harbaugh were to take a significant portion of coaches with him. I don't believe anyone other than Harbaugh has any idea what he's going to do.

I suggest allowing unlimited Harbaugh posts, but with the caveat that the creator of each new post has to first donate $25 to Beveled Guilt or to a non-profit on a list provided by MGoBlog.

If your random musings on whether Jim Harbaugh stays or goes are worth reading, pay up first.

I was watching "The Patriot" the tv show and there was a "Harbaugh Room" in their offices in Milwaukee. If i am reading this right, he is either taking over Belichick's gig or the Raiders are moving to Wisconsin. Either way this is bad non-news for Michigan.

Going back to yesterday morning (the 'Chicago Bears have spoken with Harbaugh' thread), 6 of the last 13 threads have been about Jim Harbaugh, whether he will continue as Michigan head coach, and/or speculation about (and the pizza preference of) who takes over if he leaves.

Unless someone has a better solution, I suggest we limit the board to one Harbaugh speculation thread per day (starting immediately) unless /until there's a confirmed report he's staying or leaving.

[Edit @5:15] I'm seeing some good suggestions already and will take another look later when I get back from going out for a pizza & a few beers with some friends.

Thanks, Rob! And thank you for your work moderating.

This is a start. Any action would be better than the current state-of-affairs. One additional request -- either have a Mod start the daily thread, or, limit each poster to one day of starting only. Otherwise, the same people obsessed with posting non-news and their snowflake du jour will start competing to post the daily Harbaugh Speculation thread.

Good idea. Here’s my snowflake/question. What I can’t seem to wrap my mind around is that the Sam Webbs and Brian Cook’s of the world seem to be pretty sure that he is coming back, but also think it’s very likely he would accept an NFL job if he was offered. Is he that undesirable to the NFL? I just would think he is a better candidate than almost any other coach out there given his NFL success. Also still trying to figure out why he would want to take the leap back when all the reports we have heard have said he is happier here than what he was in the NFL.

okay, new Harbaugh thread.....so, chicken wings?

I lived in NY for 30+ years. Even in the Albany area, we had our pick of great chicken wings. They know how to fry 'em, and the sauces are great.

Point me in the direction of great wings in SE Michigan. There was a place in Detroit that had (has?) great dry-rub wings, but I can't recall the name.....
