Wow sounds like he is still struggling to make a choice.

Right it was for sure the competition that scared him away.  Its not like OSU might not have the best returning rb in the country on their team or #1 rb in the country for next year already committed or anything.  I'm sure it couldn't be that he just decided to pick OSU over Michigan because we got out recruited or anything.

Anyone who blames this on Higdon commitment is lying to themselves.  Harbaugh got beat in a recruiting battle.  It will happen.  Just like it happened with Chris Clark and Smith from Georgia.  He had the opportunity to get those guys and they just liked UCLA more just like Weber likes OSU more.  Hopefully he loses every game against us but beyond that nobody here should care.

That is true, though let's not act liek Harbaugh getting a couple of weeks to recruit Weber is the same as a true head-to-head with Meyer.  Michigan will lose recruits to OSU and vice-versa, but saying these are recruiting "losses" is a bit much given the compressed timeframe.  I'm actually surprised he was able to flip a couple of kids, though that too wouldn't be a head-to-head "win" over Ferentz and Riley.  Okay, maybe Ferentz just to needly Hawkeyes well into 2025.

have told Harbaugh he was coming so Harbaugh wouldn't have kept looking. I guess it says a lot that he's afraid of a 3 star back more than the stable of backs at OSU.

Will add a special shine to those 5 loses to Michigan I'll watch him suffer through.

The competition thing is meh... he's not afraid of a 3/4* kid. That was just an easy thing to say. what he should be afraid of though is kareem walker. He would be #1 back in this class IMO

Everybody that is saying enjoy the pine at OSU just sounds butthurt. Why would we want a guy that wouldn't play at OSU?

The Higdon excuse in complete nonsense.  There's another 4-star RB in this OSU class, a much higher rated RB than Higdon.  In addition, Brionte Dunn, a former 5-star RB, just transferred because he couldn't get on the field.  I'm not sure how Urbz keeps selling these kids, but there are a bunch of RB's that will play ahead of Mike Weber.  He was swayed by his buddy and the shiny new NC trophy.  Hopefully, when Harbaugh shows he can win (???), these Detroit kids will stay home.

appearing on the signing day show last night.

Really strange. If he was that confused his parents should have told him to wait. Making a rash decision based on a 3 star RB (even though he may be very talented) makes zero sense.

I think Weber felt the need to make the decision about someone else rather than just saying clearly "I chose Ohio State over Michigan".  (Not a smart thing to say from either side's perspective, turning what should be a positive into a negative.)

Or perhaps, but less likely, Weber was going OSU all along and tried to prevent Michigan from getting a RB.

Kudos to Harbaugh!  He didn't get played by a high school senior.

not signing is dissapointing but now he is in the rearview mirror.  Similar to the Clark nonsiging, if they seem to think its better somewhere else then in the long run they are not a good fit for M.  This recruiting class wasnt expected to be a major haul but of course it would have been nice to get a few high profile surprises.  Meyer really wanted this one I think just as a stick it to ya kind of thing probably more to deny M from a quality player.  What many of these recruits are going to find out is that when it comes to Meyer and OSU all that glitters is not gold.

I really feel for the kid. It was obvious he was under a ton of pressure. It sounds like everyone around him was pushing him to go Michigan, but he had built a strong relationship with the OSU staff over time. Like has been said above, mind vs heart. It had to be the hardest thing he's ever done to announce in front of all the locals that he's leaving home, but I'm glad he made the decision for him.

I don't buy the excuse about Higdon at all, either. The RB room at OSU is stacked and Weber knows that as well as anyone. That was just a convenient reason he could give to take some heat off of him and I don't blame him one bit. I'm sure he's gotten hell the last two weeks and will probably keep getting it.

The people on here talking shit about an 18 year old's decision as to where to go to college are absurd. I'm a football fanatic. I've followed recruiting since 7th grade. But to be upset and insult another person because he wants to enjoy his college life elsewhere? Absolutely pathetic. Picking a school isn't just about football. Maybe he has a better relationship with the coach who wasn't just hired three weeks ago? Maybe he likes the campus better. Feels like he fits in more. Likes the professors or programs there. A lot of factors. Get off his ass.

what I think happened here and in recruiting in general is coaches urge players to take last minute visits, get the buzz that said player may change his commitment and then on NSD when he sticks with commitment perception is its a recruiting win for a coach. And in this case that's it's a rival and JH couldn't do what Brady Hoke was able to do, Michigan from an outside perspective looks like it can't close on top recruits

Can't start a thread because servers suck but Rutgers commit Jarius Adams just sent in his LOI to Rutgers per their football twitter. So he won't be coming here

That's what makes me feel good about the players we do get. If a kid doesn't want to come to UM, then that is on him. Weber is to Michigan fans what Higdon is to Iowa fan. Being mad and stating that you hope Weber sucks is a natural reaction to getting rejected, but I don't think that means the signing day is a failure. I've followed recruiting since it wasn't a big thing, and one thing I've learned is that coaching matters more than stars. Yes, good coaching and more high level talent will work out better (See OSU), but rejection is part of recruiting. Coaches only fail on NSD if they don't know what to do with those kids that do sign.

Of course, Clark and Weber can fail now and we won't care as Michigan fans. Of course, we will root for them to not do well against us, but don't spite them injuries, etc. Be a sport, not a df.

We literally had a post on this like 2 days ago that stars very much do matter and very closely correlate to success of the recruit.  Harbuagh got beat on the recruiting trail, it is going to happen, especially against Meyer who can now point to 3 college football titles and Mora because UCLA is pretty much Michigan but with nicer weather.

Be honest with yourselves- highly doubt he is scared of some competition from a 3* guy.  If he was told he'd be the only tailback, and another is brought in, the perceived lack of honesty could have been the factor (when in fact it was likely that the other guy was a hedge).

At OSU, there are two types of tailbacks- the Carlos Hyde/Zeke Elliott downhill variety (of which Weber fits), and the speed back Dontre Wilson-type (which Weber is not).  Curtis Samuel is the wild card, but it looks like Weber would have the opportunity to compete with Warren Ball for 2nd string (or 3rd, depending on how Samuel is used).

Logjam here is the same as it is up there with you.  The difference is that he wanted to be at OSU, and had everyone and his brother in Detroit trying to steer him to UM, which seriously must have sucked for him.

especially one that make you look weak than it is to just man up.

Do those saying he was promised one RB recruit in the class really believe that Harbaugh would diminish competition as an initial message? Or, it was promied to him by Hoke. If that is true, it tells you all you need to know about both Weber and Hoke.

Good luck and health to him personally but may his experience between the white lines be filled with misery on the last Saturday of November every year he is at that God foresaken place.

Holy shit. Calm the fuck down people. JH has highly rated past classes currently on the team, including a 5* qb, 2 5* RB's, and several other highly rated players. He has also pulled in a few nice kids on very short time this year. Some of you need meds.

Oh yeah, Jim Fucking Harbaugh is Michigans coach.
