Draftkings has early spread out: Michigan -22
Not sure how much different it'll be on consensus sportsbooks next week at this time, but you're able to bet on -22 now at least on DK.

Bury them so deep they never talk crap for 5+ years
October 21st, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
We could beat them by 30+ points every single year for the next two decades and they'd still want to talk about 2015. You can beat Little Brother but you can't stop him from being little brother.

disrespekt
October 21st, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
I would never wager for sparty, but given all the past hijinks, taking them with that many points might be smart. Obviously, I hope we beat them by 123 points.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
My heart loves that spread, but my head knows that strange things happen in this game. This is the World Cup Final for Staee.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
My head knows that once we're up two TDs, we'll run the ball all day. The difference this year is that our running game hits home runs at almost the rate elite passing games do. I think we'll blow that -22 away.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:49 PM ^
Strange things don't happen that often. The better team generally wins.
I'd like to see a list of instances the past thirty years where the winner has a markedly worse W-L record than the loser at the end of the season. I'd bet it's a very short list.
October 21st, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
see TK's post a few down. last year was an absolute robbery with the 7 reviews all going sparty's way, the worst of them being the critical sack-TD that was ruled correctly on the field and outrageously overturned on review. 2020 we were big favs and sparty had lost to rutgers the week before. 2015 we had the game in the bag with just a punt to seal it and, well, we all know what happened there. so that's 3 bad/odd/bizarre games in 7 years.
October 21st, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Being big favorites doesn’t equal a better team. That 2020 team of ours was young and bad. I’m not sure that was odd or bizarre, just a bad team beating a worse team
October 21st, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
agreed - 3 of Harbaugh's 4 losses were to a 10-win Sparty, the fourth was by his worst team at Michigan. One of those 3 was his 2nd worst team. To be fair, one of those was his best team.
There were 4 losses where the teams were close. There were 3 wins where the teams weren't close. The scoreboard reflected the difference in the teams. There's no bad juju. There's only football.
October 21st, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
You missed the point, and it’s exactly what we’re talking about. We were big favorites, having beaten a ranked Minnesota on the road in a night game, and Milton played great. We all thought we were going to Super Bowl that year.
October 21st, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
Funny. My head says we’re way better than 22 points better than those slappies. But my heart is saying, “Haven’t we been hurt like this before?”
October 21st, 2022 at 4:25 PM ^
50 years of life experience and at least 40 years of consciously following the series leads me to agree with you. We're definitely 23 points better than them but that's a lot of points for a late October night game in unpredictable weather against an opponent fueled by hate and desperation.
I'd love to see a good stomping but it's more important to wear the industrial strength knee braces, protect against the inevitable cheap shots, survive and advance.
October 21st, 2022 at 5:53 PM ^
Sparty and the points seems smart.
But i think it underestimates how good this Michigan team is combined with the anger and determination Harbaugh and the players have from getting royally screwed last season by the official review ref.
I think we beat them and pour it on. Harbaugh wants to embarrass the Tuck Coming bullshit.
October 21st, 2022 at 9:33 PM ^
I think people are underestimating just how angry this Michigan team probably is about the last year. Sure, they won a B1G title and that's not going anywhere but Sparty fans, Mel Tucker, the local/national media and Sparty players spent a lot of time talking over the past 8 months. A lot of time.
Jim Harbaugh is a vindictive and mean spirited man. He is twitchy and can take offense (note the born on 3rd base comments). He also, clearly, has a very long memory and is very willing to hold a grudge. We can be quite certain he was holding some grudges last week and he will be holding some grudges next week.
This is a very good, very physical and very nasty Michigan football team. One should expect the same kind of intensity Devin Bush provided a few years ago. Teams don't like being disrespected and Harbaugh surely hasn't forgotten even one of the statements from Sparty.
Expect a violent and high intensity game. Sparty has earned and can expect a beating. A physical beating.
October 22nd, 2022 at 7:38 AM ^
clarkie, i agree with all you say except that harbaugh is a 'vinidictive and mean spirited man'. that is simply not true. he is certainly hyper-competitive, but he is not those other things. he's actually a great guy, incredibly generous, loves his family/school/team and has always been that way. oh yeah, he's also super good the footballs.
October 22nd, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
He does seem like a good dude when you meet him. On the other hand there is a long streak of "what's your deal", years of whatever the hell was going on with Pete Carroll (that whole going for 2 when up by 6 touchdowns?), born on 3rd base kind of stuff. I don't think he's vindictive until you cross him at which point all bets seem to be off.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
I wouldn't touch 22 at all; this is a stupid series where nobody beats each other by a lot. Other than 2019 it hasn't had a greater margin than 20 2013-2014 when MSU was really good and UM was butt.
I obviously would like to see UM blow MSU out it's unlikely to happen especially since MSU seems hell-bent on defeats with dignity, which includes blowout scoring to make it look closer.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:39 PM ^
I'd bet Michigan State to cover and then be very happy if I lost that bet
October 21st, 2022 at 1:48 PM ^
That's a win-win-win
October 21st, 2022 at 3:08 PM ^
Yeah, that's a win-win in my book.
October 21st, 2022 at 5:25 PM ^
It's not out yet that I have seen, but MSU to cover the 1H line is the play here IMO.
October 21st, 2022 at 6:56 PM ^
Yep. You just know we're gonna be stubborn in the first half.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:23 PM ^
Hoping for a 2019 repeat but recent precedent doesn’t have us covering a big spread. I think we were -21.5 when we lost in 2020. Although that turned out to be just 2 bad teams. And I think it was a similar line in 2016 when we won 32-23. And again, that one was garbage points at the end, but it was as still annoying how much we took our foot off the gas. It might have been smart to ensure nothing crazy happened, but still annoying.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:28 PM ^
Given historical UM v MSU ATS in recent years, might make more sense to bet the over if it's in the 55-65 range. We are going to score, probably alot, but it would be very lame if a 42-21 or 45-24 score came in and beat the spread because Mel decided to continue chucking it in the face of certain loss, as he did against Washington.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:30 PM ^
This matches the spread SP+ has right now.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:40 PM ^
Michigan wins by 21, missing the spread, thus allowing MSU to claim dignity in defeat.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
We’re going to clown em’ by 40. Yes that’s a verb.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
I don’t bet on Michigan games. Too emotionally invested.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:50 PM ^
Take the points
October 21st, 2022 at 1:52 PM ^
the 22 is tempting seeing how they always get up for us and also how conservative we are.
October 21st, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
There is nothing better than a good old fashioned Emotional Hedge Bet.
MSU +22 all day long! Could be cold, rainy, windy, etc that night.
GO BLUE!!!
October 21st, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
M wins by 21 and you're a very happy fan
October 21st, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
No way we cover that. MSU does have talent, and they spend 365 days a year emotionally prepping for this game, and the proof is there over the last 10 years. They will go the route of Indiana AKA the polar opposite to Penn State. They will stack the box, blitz, and put it all on JJ and hope we burn rushing downs and that JJ throws the ball into LB hands.
There is no safe approach here for them. They will polarize and go all out, and they will cover. I will bet them to cover, and be beyond delighted if I lose that bet.
October 21st, 2022 at 5:04 PM ^
Exactly how I see it -- AND even if they are down big, they will be trying to score TDs at the end to maintain "dignity".
October 21st, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
I have seen how we are playing and how they are playing, so I am compelled to clarify -- that is just the Halftime spread, right?
October 21st, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
Curious if Cade is back yet. Because they're gonna try to knock JJ out of the game.
October 21st, 2022 at 2:26 PM ^
Emotional hedge - take MSU to cover. If the game is annoying, you win money. If we beat them by 23+, you won't miss the money
October 21st, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
As a gambler, I find it's bad mojo to emotionally hedge. Too many conflicting emotions. Let's say we're up 26 with 2 minutes to go - are you going to be rooting for a meaningless sparty TD?
No, I say I want to watch them die.
October 21st, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
I find live-betting for the emotional hedge is the way to do it.
Unfortunately, I won a lot on this game last year. Didn’t make any bets until after halftime, then started throwing freebies and small stuff on MSU mL.
I was so fucking mad after the game though because of how it happened, I honestly don’t know if the money helped any on that one.
October 21st, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
I don't see us beating them by that much. I think we have the potential to, but this series is just weird. I would love to stomp them out by 50.
October 21st, 2022 at 3:33 PM ^
We have to beat them by a wide margin because if it's close they tend to turn into superman and win close ones, at least in years past it has.
October 21st, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
For all the weird crap MSU has had going for it for so long they are long overdue for a reckoning on the field. With M being especially focused on them, unless they come out tight this one shouldn't even be close.
October 21st, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
do not bet on a line like this pls.
October 21st, 2022 at 3:27 PM ^
People have such a short memory. This is their super bowl, and to get 22 pts. I hope Vegas is right.
October 21st, 2022 at 3:30 PM ^
I think one Harbaugh Michigan team has covered ATS in six games against MSU -- 2019 in a 44-10 rout. If you're going to bet Michigan ATS in this game, bet small. THE most annoying game was the 32-23 victory a few years ago where MSU closed the gap late to cover and piss me right the hell off.
