Well at some point one of these 5* star RBs have to pan out; might as well be him.
Oh who I am kidding? We are ficked.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:31 AM ^
The coach has to play said 5* RB for him to pan out. Charbonnet had that 70 yard sprint this year and was never seen again. Even led the team the year prior.
January 27th, 2021 at 12:07 PM ^
Corum had a nice catch on a swing pass on his very first ever play in a UM uniform, went for what, 12 yards, or so... Did he ever catch a pass again last year?
January 27th, 2021 at 1:21 PM ^
Probably has a bit to do with the fact that after his 70 yard run, he had 18 carries for 54 yards (3 ypc). He had one long run and did a whole lot of nothing with his following opportunities.
January 28th, 2021 at 2:42 AM ^
18 carries?
18 got damn carries?
We talking about 18 carries right?
18?
January 28th, 2021 at 2:42 AM ^
Eighteen carries? Not for a game but on the season, a football season?
January 27th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
We literally have to have the worst RB hit rate in the country. That being said...I believe Edwards will be the one!!!
January 28th, 2021 at 8:14 AM ^
I think maybe 2-3 former RBs are on practice squads, but having 0 RB on any NFL roster is very sad.
I think Haskins will have an NFL career as a back up RB, and hopefully Edwards finally breaks this trend
January 27th, 2021 at 11:30 AM ^
Somehow I knew this would be one of the first 5 posts.
January 27th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
I hate that trilogy so much.
January 27th, 2021 at 5:37 PM ^
Good Lord, you jabronis who like anything other than the original trilogy (and I mean the real originals only available now via Harmy's Despecialized edition) should identify yourselves publicly. Shame on you.
(Rogue One was good.)
January 27th, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
Shit, kiss of death. Michigan has such a piss-poor record of developing 5-stars running backs.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
Can he change his position to athlete real quick just for shits and giggles.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
With the news about Crowell, I could see us cleaning up the top 5-6 players in the state in the 2022 class; including Will Johnson
January 27th, 2021 at 11:24 AM ^
Is that Kurt Fuller? Such an underrated actor, just like Kevin Dunn. Always getting smaller parts, and always knocking those small parts out of the ballpark. How he kept a straight face as he was handing over those photos of himself in Scary Movie I will never know.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:14 AM ^
Welp, it's now ordained: he'll be a disappointment at Michigan.
It's like Sports Illustrated designating a Michigan team #1 in the country.
January 27th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
Or the Madden Cover curse
January 27th, 2021 at 1:34 PM ^
Or the new HTTV cover curse.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
Well, he's fucked
January 27th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
Welp that seals it. Doomed to be a bust.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
Harbaugh can’t recruit in- state, something, something, rabble, rabble!!!
January 27th, 2021 at 11:22 AM ^
People have been pumping up the 2021 in-state class for years. Michigan landed two of the top ten in-state recruits per 247. They didn’t appear to offer Jaylen Reed at #9 so we’ll say three of the top ten that they wanted since Raheem Anderson is #11.
That’s not great.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:18 AM ^
Oh, no! Kiss of death ...
January 27th, 2021 at 11:19 AM ^
Please not the star crap again
January 27th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
This ^^
Hassan Haskins is flat out better than any of the high rated RBs we have brought in and he had shit for offers. Harbaugh saw his skills and signed him. Maybe we should pay attention to the good scouting of our coaching staff rather than what a bunch of non-playing, non-coaching, high school analysts think. The NFL is filled with guys who played well above their rankings. All the skill in the world means nothing if you won't put in the work. Not sure one can coach drive and desire.
January 27th, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
What's your defense of gray, green, green, van sumeren, e.t.c.? You picked the only guy that actually hit (it appears so far) as your "trust the coaches" argument. There's too much evidence otherwise to blindly trust the coaches.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:13 PM ^
Coaches have to close the deal, that part is on them, but its not like Harbaugh is unable to IDENTIFY talent. We went after a ton of excellent players only to see them choose other destinations, it happens. Josh Rosen, Damien Harris, and Najee Harris all come to mind quickly. If you want to argue that Harbaugh needs to get better at closing the deal, I see your point, but identification doesn't seem to be the biggest hurdle.
I am fairly certain I saw something stating Najee Harris was set up with housing at Michigan before ultimately choosing Alabama. Everyone agrees Najee Harris is a STUD. Full stop. But he himself said he came back this year to improve in a number of areas. He was not 2020 Najee Harris in 2018, or 2019. His drive and desire to be the best he could be did that, not coaching.
Derrick Green did not seem to care about his fitness. Kareem Walker seems to have some sort of either learning or behavioral issues. Vincent Gray was a late offeree when it appeared things were going south with other recruits. And he passed guys rated higher than him even if his performance thus far has left a lot to be desired. Van Sumeren could be good in a different defense, he was almost a positionless prospect to begin with though I bet he would amazing in Wisconsin's defense. The talk of switching to a 3-4 could really benefit him.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:19 AM ^
Oh I'm sure he'll do just as well as all of our previous 5 star running backs...(tear rolls down cheek)
January 27th, 2021 at 11:21 AM ^
Maizen would just love this.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:34 AM ^
Nice going recruiting service hating Michigan football 5-Star RB gods. He was happy where he was to begin with. Well, we’ll just get this out of the way: Donovan Edwards has entered the transfer portal.
We were all doing fine and MGoBloggers were finally getting along and this happened. But what am I looking at as far as stars? I still see he’s a 4-star so life is good.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:37 AM ^
Quit worrying...the law of averages is on our side...or every coin flip is it’s own? Oh fuck.
Congrats to Donovan. He played hard in tough circumstances and earned it!
January 27th, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
Here's my power rank for every 5* RB for Michigan since the 2008 class off the top of my head (not sure who I'm missing):
Ty Isaac
Zach Charbonnet
Sam McGuffie
Derrick Green
Kareem Walker
Not a great track record there
January 27th, 2021 at 11:47 AM ^
You could go back further and add Kevin Grady and Kelly Baraka.
January 27th, 2021 at 12:10 PM ^
Dick.
That list wasn't bad enough?
January 27th, 2021 at 11:57 AM ^
Believe Carlos Brown was a few spots away from five stars as well
January 27th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
Don’t think McGuff the Crime Dog was a 5* iirc.
Track record comment still stands
January 27th, 2021 at 2:32 PM ^
He wasn't. He was a 4 star and rated around the #10 running back in his class. Walker was also a 4 star coming in at 107 nationally.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:45 AM ^
Is that the Harbaugh bump?
January 27th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
Good for him now, but this feels like a bad omen.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:53 AM ^
That poor damn kid.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:55 AM ^
Don't mean this as a negative because 5-star or high 4-stars alike are awesome to have. But, I liked what I saw on Charbonnet's film better. Did you? Ultimately until you them against college competition it will always be a projection.
January 27th, 2021 at 2:39 PM ^
I haven't had time to watch DE's film. But from what I recall folks on the board were skeptical of Charbonnet's 5 star status....I know the doesn't answer your question though.
January 27th, 2021 at 3:52 PM ^
Charbonnet never quite got the 5th star. He was #46 nationally and ended up a high 4-star. I thought he had great vision, instincts, and balance and very good speed for a big guy. I thought he was a sure fire star. Although I'm sad to see him go, I have to admit that Haskins outplayed him last year. I think some are assuming Edwards gets immediate playing time. He may get some, but he's not taking Haskins job away unless he gets injured IMO.
January 27th, 2021 at 11:57 AM ^
Doom!
January 27th, 2021 at 12:03 PM ^
Oh hell yes. Donovan's gonna break the curse.
January 27th, 2021 at 12:33 PM ^
He became a 5 star while enrolled at Michigan, maybe this reverses the curse.
