Yeah, John Beilein really sucks at developing players. If someone isn't good by the end of his true freshman season, I'm sure the freshman they replace him with the next year will be much better.

Does this mean we'll get someone who can block out?

EDIT: Not meant to be a slight against Donnal.  I actually wish he stayed.  But it'd be nice to get some big bodies that can rebound with the available scholarships.

Not far out at all for a guess. BG also has good pizza, great coffee and proximity to Ann Arbor. I was just blindly advocating for my MACtion preference. If either wants to dance again I'd stay away from the conference though since it's basically impossible to get two teams from the MAC into the tourney.

He might be #1 on my list of guys I don't want to play poker with, as I like the idea of keeping my money. And I think he'd pass a lie detector test regardless of what was asked and what he answered. Best of luck to him in basketball and beyond.

As much as we said about him perhaps, he's another player that showed up in moments when we needed everyone on deck - and indeed, he gave us some great displays of defense here and there in the tournament as well. Best of luck to him wherever he goes, and like others, I think it would have been fun to have him around for another year.

I wish Mark the best.  He took a lot of shit on social media and handled it better than most of us would.  A true Michigan man.  I hope he has a great grad year and doesn't take it out on his former teammates if they meet on the court.  I still remember his signature game against Illinois a year or two ago.

I wouldn't entirely be shocked if he spends a year raining threes on mid majors and shows up in the tournament.  His issue was more the physicality/athleticism against major bigs.

If you are great- you leave early- (DJ)
If you are not- you are dismissed after 4 years (max, mark)

Rare to stay for 5 th year (Morgan)
Just helping other schools get mature players?

Because some guys won't contribute anyway as a freshman? You get that guy as a fifth year if he's a Morgan, and if he's a Donnal he can get to play a more prominent role elsewhere if the guy wants to keep playing. Seems good for everybody to me. Where's the downside?

Because you have an opportunity to graduate and play a fifth year even if it's not at the same school. That opportunity does not exist (or is extremely rare) if you don't redshirt. If you have little to no chance at NBA why not redshirt?

The vast majority of players aren't going to have the option to leave early for the NBA. If a guy isn't ready to contribute as a freshman, it's good for both the team and the individual to redshirt to preserve the possibility of a fifth year. Lots of teams have contributors that aren't NBA material, but are incredibly valuable as fifth-year seniors.

Jordan Morgan is a great example of this. He was certainly more valuable as a fifth-year senior than he would have been playing spot minutes as a freshman.

He has a nice shot, as Dan Dakich likes to point out. He had some nice games at Michigan. My impression was that he struggled with his confidence. I think he'd have a lot more success against the slightly shorter, less burly players of the kind he'd see in a smaller conference. I wish my fellow Ohioan the best.

No, not bad, just not good enough for big minutes at this level. Still, this is the fickle nature of recruiting. Sometimes lower ranked guys turn into lottery picks. Sometimes top 100 guys end up overwhelmed.

He shot a good percentage from 3. It would be nice to see him get volume and see if he can shoot like that all year. He percentages seemed near 40 percent from an announcer late in the year....it just didn't seem like he truly had the green light like Mo or DJ. Toledo would be a good fit. He has a former HS Teammate on BG. Either would be logical.
