Don't Shoot the Messenger - Dante Moore

Submitted by Counterstrike Guy on July 8th, 2022 at 9:54 AM

Heard from a little birdie sitting on a girder in de_vertigo last night that the ongoing conference realignment may have shaken up Moore's decision today.  If Oregon gets left out in the cold (isn't offered a spot in the B1G+) and is stuck playing in diminished PAC10-, that could cause him to decide between between TAMU's $ and M's class.

Here's to hoping he makes the right decision.

If the kid is going out there for the $$$ or to get away from home, conference affiliation won't matter. Trey Lance was a first round QB from an FCS school. Dante knows he can still make it to the NFL, even in playing in the corpse of the Pac12/Big12.

This was the post I was looking for. Recruits are thinking about the NFL far more than college conference dynamics. Especially elite QB recruits. He doesn't even need to play D1 to get scouts attention and go Top 10. Looking like a stud tearing up weakened PAC12 competition may even raise his stock.

I do wonder with the transfer situation being what it is if kids are as worried about being stuck somewhere anymore.  It's similar to why I never thought that many kids cared about Harbaugh (or any coach) changing jobs, as they now have similar freedom to find a better place without nearly as many restrictions.

I still assume Moore is going to Oregon but I wouldn't be shocked if he waited a bit until the league shuffling ends.

What I don’t understand with Moore, if NIL is actually what is important to him, is that JJ is getting NIL opportunities and it can be shown to Dante what he could get. I get it with a lot of these recruits, Michigan isn’t saying what you are gonna get like other programs and there aren’t current examples with let’s say wide receivers on Michigan’s roster, but at QB and living in Michigan, Dante can see exactly what he can get and maybe more if he came, but using JJ as an example. I think there is something else at play here, maybe the connection with Weiss isn’t as good as it was with Gattis?

Any commitment he makes this week is purely symbolic anyway

And even if he signs the paperwork, he can just transfer away for any reason. He can always bail on Oregon if offered more money somewhere else or the Pac-12 becomes the Mountain West or if a caldera forms under Eugene later this year and it explodes, etc, etc.

My general feeling is that virtually any commitment made this early, especially by high-ranked kids, is symbolic at best.  Doesn't mean a lot of them won't stick but there's little harm in seeing what the market will pay you and then seeing if it still makes sense in a couple of months once you see how the teams look.

This post (the OP) made the “message board geniuses” Twitter account. It was obviously deserved since it was completely wrong/fabricated.
