Domani Jackson commits to Bama
December 29th, 2023 at 12:00 AM ^
I don’t disagree. I’m just pointing out why we’re losing the “NIL” battle.
Unwillingness from the AD + hypocrisy from the NCAA is tying our checkbook.
December 29th, 2023 at 9:14 AM ^
Then they should get high school NIL money for proving themselves at that level. That is a different story for another time that has already been rehashed. Domani Jackson has proven himself at the college level. He has not been elite, but has proven himself to be a solid starter. I am not sure what Michigan's NIL pitch was to him, but it should have been NIL money from the day he sets foot on campus at Michigan to get his commitment.
December 29th, 2023 at 10:14 AM ^
Can you really be confident that we would be allowed to do what many other teams are doing with NIL? This past season tells me that we would get slammed by the media, the B1G and the NCAA. And "everybody is doing it" is apparently only a valid defense for other teams.
December 29th, 2023 at 1:06 PM ^
Very, very true.
December 28th, 2023 at 11:00 PM ^
oops...retracted
December 29th, 2023 at 12:07 AM ^
Is it illegal if it’s never policed? In fact, Michigan’s stubbornness to operate how they see college football should be governed has turned the whole country against us. This is on UM for either not adapting or being cheap. Warde is also a huge detriment to NIL but Ono can’t fire him because power is spread among the academics. We’re screwed.

Re: illegal inducements
There’s a line of thinking that a law without enforcement isn’t actually law. So, getting a blowjob in the state of Michigan isn’t really illegal despite the state’s anti-sodomy law because it’s not enforced. Not sayin’ just sayin’

It's "Yeah, but $till..."
Fixed it for ya...
December 28th, 2023 at 9:55 PM ^
He was in the same class as Johnson which means he would have potentially lost a year's worth of credits. Maybe that was his motivation for transferring to Bama and not UM.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:08 PM ^
I hear their engineering school is great….
December 28th, 2023 at 10:24 PM ^
The dean is a “football” guy.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:46 PM ^
So is their AD.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:43 PM ^
He is more than likely entering the NFL Draft after this year anyways, so going to Michigan or Alabama wouldn't have mattered as long as he was accepted and he was okay with starting his credits over.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:51 PM ^
Not if he wants to get drafted before rounds 6 or 7.
December 29th, 2023 at 9:52 AM ^
That's not how eligibility works.
40 percent of required coursework for a degree must be complete by the end of the second year, 60 percent by the end of the third year and 80 percent by the end of their fourth year.

Wish he came to Michigan... I'm curious to see his career trajectory.

Avatar checks out.

Apparently it's a dead period for recruiting but not for Bama
December 28th, 2023 at 10:04 PM ^
There’s literally video on Twitter of Jackson talking to Saban today. But the rules only apply to Michigan, so the NCAA will look the other way.
Please do correct me if the dead period rules are different for transfers, but I don’t think they are.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
They are not different. There’s a period where transfers are on a “quiet period,” meaning they can have contact with coaches on campus but coaches can’t visit them at home or watch them play, while high schoolers are still on a dead period. But right now is a flat dead period for both recruits and transfers.
The caveat seems to be the NCAA defines “contact” as anything more than saying hello. All Saban is on video doing is quickly shaking his hand so probably not an actual violation.
December 28th, 2023 at 11:38 PM ^
Recruiting never stops, even during dead period...just no in person face to face.
Or at least that's my understanding.
December 29th, 2023 at 10:18 AM ^
It is still funny to watch Saban run across the field just to say "hello." He clearly thinks that the interaction is valuable enough to hurry over and make it happen. Also, probably enough time to say, "Hello. $1M cash can be in your account by tomorrow."
December 28th, 2023 at 10:44 PM ^
Yeah but did Saban buy him lunch…like say a cheeseburger? And did Matt dudek keep the receipt for 3 years? Those are the real questions.
December 29th, 2023 at 6:00 AM ^
Is the assumption that Dudek was the one that switched on Harbaugh? If he did, that is a clown move on his part, and hopefully other programs think twice on hiring him if he becomes available again. He is a high-risk employee in letting out any and all, even minor, violations to the NCAA.

*I just searched and someone posted on here in January that there was rumors Dudek was the source of informing the NCAA. Yeah...he is an ass-clown.

Former 5-star Domani Jackson commits to Alabama over Michigan after practice visit
How can this be legal given that it's a dead period?
December 29th, 2023 at 8:47 AM ^
Because Alabama did it and not Michigan.
December 29th, 2023 at 10:21 AM ^
I don't think it is. And I sure as shit would be including this video in my NOA defense. There is video evidence of a violation, but not a peep is being said about it. Sure seems like the selective enforcement is arbitrary and capricious. Where is Tom Mars when you need him?
December 29th, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
So why can’t Michigan take a hint that rules aren’t policed, and then wanting to govern themselves and change college football into what they think it should be has turned everyone against us. It’s gotten to the point where I place the blame on UM for not adapting. We’ve already been exploited of having weak leadership. This continues to trend in the wrong direction. No fight back. Why doesn’t UM ask the NCAA of this is allowed?
December 29th, 2023 at 2:00 AM ^
So why can’t Michigan take a hint that rules aren’t policed
Because the rules are policed . . . just for Michigan.
December 29th, 2023 at 7:44 AM ^
But he didn’t get a cheeseburger so everyone looks the other way
December 28th, 2023 at 11:20 PM ^
They ran into each other at Disneyland yesterday. Serendipity.

Of course he did

good; better: something like "echo domani"
December 28th, 2023 at 10:04 PM ^
I won't blame a top rated DB for picking Saban. It will be interesting to see if he bounces back or gets lost is the shuffle.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
Lol why is this surprising? Play for nick saban and Alabama or play for Michigan and sherrone moore? He was never coming here.
December 28th, 2023 at 11:21 PM ^
Don smack: earned.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:13 PM ^
Might as well get another Northwestern guy, now. . .Rod Heard.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:22 PM ^
well, good luck to him

Kid hates the cold so much, he heard USC was going to B10 and said NOPE
December 29th, 2023 at 3:48 AM ^
Mentioned out of HS that this was quite literally tied for the biggest reason why he didn't choose UM. He hated the cold. His dad is from the area, he isn't. He was near miserable at the 2021 OSU v UM game. He's at The Game where his childhood favorite school is beating their rival. The atmosphere is insane. He's miserable and dressed like he's in Antarctica. He wasn't coming here. Sure, he arrived on the visit already set in not going to UM but that atmosphere didn't even budge the stance and the main thing I was told was weather based. I believe it was "not a chance" or similar regarding playing in the cold.
December 29th, 2023 at 9:45 AM ^
Ew, that’s just pathetic, really.
December 29th, 2023 at 10:41 AM ^
Meanwhile, Raiola's dad says he is going to Nebraska because he needs to learn to play in all conditions, since so many NFL cities play in the cold. I had no idea Jackson was so soft. Maybe that's why he hasn't had a 5* career despite having 5* athleticism.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:31 PM ^
Guarantee admissions played a large role in all of this.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:39 PM ^
Why do we do this? How about the odds are the kid just liked Bama more?? Ya'll are freaking weird sometimes
December 28th, 2023 at 10:34 PM ^
Finished second for many of these elites in recruiting, and still finishing second for them in portal.
December 28th, 2023 at 10:49 PM ^
I’m still scratching my head as to why the Stout kid went back to West Kentucky
