Did an mgoboard member cancel OSU parent's flight to B1G office protest?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on August 21st, 2020 at 12:22 AM

It was Alton who posted this in the thread a couple days ago about the B1G office protest organzied by osu's Shaun Wade's father. He didn't black out the confirmation number on the screenshot he posted of his flight to Chicago-

Wait...that tweet has the 6-character confirmation code printed on it.  Somebody cancel his flight.

And really--out of all of the choices, Spirit Airlines from MCO to ORD?

Today Randy Wade tweeted this-

Some Jack-Wagon canceled my tickets.... We still about to Pull up.... #FIGHT

Who did it? Confess! Guesses?

I know it's Ohio State and all but I like seeing parents stand up for their kids rights against a corrupt parasitic organization that profits from unpaid labor to pay their bloated administrative salaries.

But that’s not what they’re doing is it? They’re demanding a face-to-face meeting so that the commissioner can tell them exactly what he already released in his statement.

Oh and they also want all the documents related to cancellation and the vote total.

They’re doing absolutely nothing with regard to player compensation, etc.

Aristotle

Why are they not entitled to the documents relating to the cancellation of the season?

Their children were the unpaid sources of revenue for an organization that took in $700 million+  last year and now their individual earning potential is threatened by this organization's decision.

Let me guess you're not a big speak truth to power guy.

I’m 100% with you regarding player compensation. Given the money involved in the NCAA, players should be compensated fairly and have full NIL rights.

Regarding the documents, no I don’t think they are “entitled”. First off, what they’re asking for likely doesn’t exist. Second, the B1G does not have to provide every singular detail that went into every decision they make. They’re a private entity and therefore not even subject to FOIA requests.

I’m all for speaking truth to power. I just think what these families are doing is misguided. Especially considering the travel involved during a pandemic.

The fall season is cancelled, and Warren has explained the rationale not once but twice. In my opinion it’s time for these parents to move on.

Aristotle

How do these documents not exist, are you saying no vote was ever taken?

FOIA requests are one tool to retrieve this information, the discovery process in a civil lawsuit is another. If a government official influenced a school president or other administrator to make a decision for political purposes that is a major issue and something that needs to be brought to light.

Saying people should not travel during a pandemic to redress wrongs is an intellectually lazy argument. Do you think people should be prohibited from peacefully protesting or leaving their homes to vote also?

It's easy for you to accept Warren's explanation because you are not financially impacted by it, your opinion is irrelevant.

What is the argument against transparency here? That it's inconvenient for an organization that makes hundreds of millions of dollars from unpaid student athletes to be accountable to these same student athletes when the organization makes decisions that materially impacts the athletes future earning potential and career prospects. I'm not buying it.

Alright dude, I think you’re taking this all a bit too seriously.

I don’t know the documents don’t exist. I’m saying it’s possible they don’t. Maybe it was an informal, verbal vote. Maybe they don’t have minutes of every meeting. Maybe they didn’t save every single document that was used to make the decision.

If by government official you mean Whitmer, than this conversation is over. I’m not arguing with you about conspiracy theories being spread by Sir Yacht. FFS

Flying on a plane to protest for football “transparency” is not the same as walking outside your house to protest racism and social injustice in my opinion. Of course they have a right to fly from Florida to Chicago to protest, but I still think it’s an irresponsible things to do. That’s not “intellectually lazy” as you stated. It’s common freaking sense! But good try.

Your opinion is also irrelevant I would say, according to your own rules. Oh yeah, and how is Wade’s dad financially affected by this again?? His opinion is also irrelevant I guess, according to you.

The argument is that they have already been transparent. They’ve already laid out why the cancelled. Twice. You’re upset about it because you don’t like their reasons, but that’s too bad. I honestly don’t know what you people are hoping to see here, unless you truly are clinging to some misguided belief in a conspiracy theory started by a clown on Twitter.

But hey, if you want to root for them, more power to you I guess. I am allowed to voice my disapproval as well.

Unfortunately, they have made public reasons which make no sense given the extremely low risks to these athletes.  Again, there will be more lost seasons due to injury and concussion in the SEC than covid-19.   These BIG decisions are political from ultra liberal schools.   Let’s have a season AFTER the elections when indoor games make no sense at the height of flu season.  Blue states have much stricter lockdowns and for the most part much worse death per capita.  This is politics pure and simple.   Red state SEC will play and flourish. People don’t seem to mind other people’s rights being taken away... but they do mind when it is their own — especially for reasons that are based on the “science” of faulty predictive models.

Mike DeWine and Larry Hogan - both strong Republican Governor's, instituted strict lock downs very early on, along with statewide mask mandates.  DeWine was considered a leader ahead of everyone else.  Stop with the Fox driven stereotypes that only blue states are locking down.  Also stop with the fixation on death rates per blue/red - look at the map and notice that higher cases and death rates follow population density.  That's anthropological fact that can be traced back for millenia - epidemics require density to spread.

DeWine did do steps to shut things down in Ohio, and he did have a mask mandate in April.  For about a day. And then he caved to people who are merrily letting themselves be led around by grifters like Rep. Nino Vitale, who is the dictionary definition of punchable face.

Three months later DeWine rei-mposed a mask mandate, about the same time Larry Householder the Ohio House Speaker and anti-masker was arrested, for crimes unrelated to Covid.

DeWine did okay, he could have done better.  He caved, at a critical juncture, to a vocal, visible, but small minority and it set Ohio back and cost more lives.  And he still gets all kind of flak from the folks who listen to Tucker, Limbaugh and local radio hosts and guys like Demetrius Stanley, who clearly took more shots to the head in his career than anyone realized.

Exactly.  After Acton resigned due to threats he walked any covid order back that had societal  pushback. This was exacerbated by the House bill 6 fallout.

Ohio sped right past Michigan in Covid data. He still doesn't seem to get that bars, schools and mass outdoor gatherings can't all co-exist at the same time. Please hold the applause for Dewine. He's a good guy but also folds like a cheap lawn chair.

Wade wants to get a photo-op in front of the NCAA building holding up a sign and wearing his son's jersey number.  That's it.  Because otherwise he could reach out to an attorney, file a FOIA request, etc. privately, like some other parents have.  The dude posted his freaking flight information online (purely for public spectacle) and was surprised someone abused this information.  I think it's shitty to cancel a guy's flight, but Wade is as much trying to craft a narrative in the media as anyone else.  Save me this "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" characterization.

I can't understand why in the world any of this would bother you even in the slightest bit esp if they decide to travel? can't even imagine it actually bothers you even the slightest bit they are traveling during a pandemic and if they are what's in your business. Seriously?

Maybe people should be able to decide their own risk levels when it comes to their own lives. Something tells me that's not your problem and if that is really what's bothering you then that's sad

A vessel traveling with a virus with no vaccine from a hotspot to your area, or any area for that matter, is actually that person deciding the risk for others and their lives. Kind of surprised you didn’t recognize that point when you made this post. But then again, based on the content of your post...

This is the equivalent of someone getting drunk and driving because they think the only person affected by that stupid decision is themselves.

And yeah, that bothers me a fucking ton. It's selfish, it's myopic, and does nothing good for us.

Yes, the family, friends, and co-workers of over 177,000 dead Americans are deriving a great deal of pleasure from the misery and chaos that this virus brought.

Also deriving pleasure are the tens of millions of Americans whose livelihoods and lives have been seriously—if not catastrophically—disrupted by this virus.

And lets not forget all the doctors and nurses and EMS personnel who've watched many hundreds of thousands of patients in their care struggle to breathe—that's undoubtedly a laugh riot.

I don’t disagree, but if Wade’s dad is looking for someone to blame for cancelling his ticket, he need only look in a mirror.

Its an incredibly stupid thing to do to post a picture of your entire flight ticket on the internet for the whole world to see. That’s all anyone needs in order to cancel it or do whatever they want with it. You might as well post a picture of your newest credit card that you just got in the mail, too.

I don’t necessarily condone the fact that someone cancelled his ticket, but people who have no minds of their own deserve to look like clowns. He should’ve known better.

This is misguided thinking - like the Football parents’

1.  this was not the B1G commish’s call any more than Roger Goodell has the final say on major NFL decisions.  They are essentially yelling at “Baghdad Bob” when they are pissed at Saddam.  (Considered using “WH press secretary“ and President but wanted to stay no-politics)

2.  Players have NO Rights to play football in the B1G - i expect scholarship offers guarantee the free schooling in exchange for playing but not the other way round === only thing lawsuits or this ruckus could achieve would be waivers from the B1G to transfer - which will be too late IF SEC et al can go forward AND still would require NCAA approval

3.  These people are upset that they and their children aren’t going to get what they want and I doubt anything they would be shown in regard to the decision would ever be enough or “correct” to change their feelings.  . (Gets on pedestal)  Very few cases in this world where anyone OWES you anything.  Complaining, publicizing, protesting - can be beneficial to raise awareness to the general public but eventually you need to suck it up and get to work to make changes to better your situation and/or those that face the same challenge in the future.  This takes work and is much more difficult than the complaining and feeling sorry for oneself so it is a road less taken.  (Compare the Hinton’s quest for NCAA standards during the pandemic to this crybaby/ gives us what we want movement spearheaded by OSU folks to see the difference.)

It wasn’t a nice thing for someone to do, but he was foolish enough to put his confirmation code on the internet for the world to see. He’s got no one to blame but himself.

If the shoe was on the other foot I would absolutely expect some OSU fan with nothing better to do to have done the same to a Michigan parent.
