De'Veon Smith cut from USFL team for ... a weird reason
https://dknation.draftkings.com/2022/4/16/23028522/deveon-smith-cut-piz…
Link probably won't work but someone can help me out or just plug it in your browser and read a most bizarre story. Dude wanted a slice of pizza instead of chicken salad and got cut from the team. Huh?

Does the team not know that is a nervous bird that has lead to an ailment in the human population? He was trying to do them a favor!

What will happen if I link to draft kings? Chaos? Pain?
April 18th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
Not really, unless the "pain" is no more information than what is shared in the post. Weak article.
I mean "article".
Here is the actual video of him being cut. Unbelievable.

Based on what was said in the video, looks like their were cutting Smith for “being disrespectful” to the staff that provides the team food.
De’Veon is arguing he wasn’t disrespectful in requesting something different to eat, but sounds like the coaching staff probably heard otherwise.
April 18th, 2022 at 10:21 PM ^
I wish DeVeon would've said to that guy: you can shove that chicken salad right up yo damn ass...BITCH!
April 18th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
Hopefully, the Michigan Panthers will pick him up and he can eat all the pizza he wants. It would be cool to see him as the RB for the Panthers.

Pizza powered some pretty nice runs at UM. I particularly remember him refusing to go down and plowing through the entire BYU defense!
April 18th, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
Is that the run where he goes into a pile then magically telephoned to the other side for a big gain? That was one of my favorite runs of all time.
April 18th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
Yes! Think he took it to the house?
April 18th, 2022 at 11:34 AM ^
That's the one. Stiff-armed the safety into oblivion on his way there. Was especially sweet for me - I'd just moved to Spanish Fork, UT (right in the heart of BYU) when that game happened, all of my neighbors were huge BYU fans, that run felt like such a dagger in all their hearts.

I think you meant bolivian?

Found it

All I hear when he shakes off #15 is "Get off me, son!"
Reminiscent of an Earl Campbell run.
Announcer calls him the hungrest of the Michigan backs, I guess he was right.
I assume there's more to the story, but regardless hope the Panthers pick him up.
Neg me but I miss Spielman on the call
That was Chris Spielman on the call.

I remember thinking the play was over and then he popped out of the scrum and ran for that TD. Most of the people around me felt the same and we were all pleasantly surprised.
April 18th, 2022 at 10:58 AM ^
I saw on twitter that he was picked up by the Bandits. I haven't been able to confirm it though.
Let's take over this OP with another pizza argument!!
De'Veon will be headed to Buscemis once he gets the Panthers contract!
April 18th, 2022 at 10:35 AM ^
So, because he wanted a slice of pizza, now he has to deliver pizza professionally?
That's pretty ironic. Like "10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife" ironic...
Sounds like the Sparty way to success.
Don't you think?
Like rain on your wedding day level of irony.

So after spending the better part of the past 40 years in management I'm going to go WAY out on a limb here and predict that there might be more to this story than his dietary choices.
Crazy I know.

Holy Hell!
April 18th, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
exactly.
had to be some deep dish v. thin crust dust up. maybe something very serious about preferred toppings. there has to be a better explanation.
Definitely had to be a blow-up over pineapple.
pfff. pineapple is acceptable. its anchovies that will cause guys to get kicked off of USFL teams. i think.
Pineapple is not acceptable on a pizza. Neither is fish.
sorry va blue. you're a good guy, pleasure to have you around, but this is a business.
i'm going to have to let you go. maybe you can catch on with another team. good luck.
"Coach wants to see you. Bring your playbook."
Anchovies and capers on a pizza is freaking heaven on earth.
Geek, coach wants to see you.
said to bring your playbook

I thought the same thing, but after watching the video of the team cutting him, it's bad management:
April 18th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
Nuts that a personnel decision is blasted in the interwebs like this. Usually HR declines to comment on actions taken in 99.999% of cases.
April 18th, 2022 at 11:02 AM ^
I know we are in the "Hard Knocks" era of access, but profoundly weird to me they decided to make this content.
April 18th, 2022 at 11:01 AM ^
Riiiiiiiight.
They just HAPPENED to have this camera rolling and they just HAPPENED to interview the coach making the cut and so they just said "what the Hell. Let's post this to our social mecia account."
You know, like they do all the players they cut. Because that's exactly what they do - they film them, they interview the HC as to why they were cut and then they post it on Twitter. Oh wait.
I'm sorry they do none of those things. Except this one time with the more ridiculous and unbelivable reason immaginable.
April 18th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
Are you suggesting they cut him because it would generate people talking about how odd this is and "no press is bad press"?
April 18th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
Basically. I'm suggesting they cut him because they felt they could find a better RB to replace him and rather than just doing that they made up some really nutzo reason why in the hopes it would get the USFL into the news cycle, if only for a short period of time.
Guess what? It worked.
April 18th, 2022 at 11:42 AM ^
The live stream of his exit interview should be pretty telling..... Tune in at 11!
This is all true. You can tell from that clip that they way they are probably trying to make the USFL successful, which will require TV ratings, is to blend the reality show model (this feels like the Batchelor) with the NFL. The reason the coach wouldn’t discuss it is because it would be less drama and lower ratings. It all seemed too fake and for the cameras that just happened to be ready.
The USFL should be immediately thrown into the dung heap due to this stupid reality show ratings idea. Of course I could be the mistaken one since I am in the minority of hating these reality shows with all the fake drama.
April 18th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
I tend to agree with this because, well, if it was really real I think DeVeon would've told that guy to shove his chicken salad up his ass. And then followed that with "BITCH!". Full hypotethetical quote posted at the top of the feed for those interested in reading in its entirety. NSFW.
April 18th, 2022 at 11:39 AM ^
I can’t believe this is real? I was somewhat excited to watch football in April. But this seems like a WWE type stunt, or a bad late April fools joke.
April 18th, 2022 at 11:52 AM ^
I think the worst part is getting cut by this dude (whoever he is) wearing sweat pants from 1981.
Yeah... The old, fat white guy in the room is still employed, but the young running back in outstanding shape gets cut for wanting a slice of pizza. The old guy went home to a 6-pack and a bowl of pasta w/ garlic bread.
WTF???
April 18th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
After spending the majority of my professional career laughing at the stupidity that regularly dribbles down the leg of management to the people doing the real work, I'm going to not go anywhere near a limb and tell you the only "more to this" is the particular brand of management self-help book this asshole read before cutting a dude for eating pizza.
