Davison Igbinosun:6’2 cornerback in transfer portal from Ole Miss who visited Michigan on Sunday gets a crystal ball to Ohio State
January 30th, 2023 at 4:03 PM ^
Oh man, he gets to take another trip to Ann Arbor in November where he'll be part of the 3rd consecutive loss!
the only bad thing is they won't be undefeated coming into A2 next year.... but it'll still be sweet, the three-pete
January 30th, 2023 at 5:04 PM ^
Seager, Townshend, and Alonso?
January 30th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
Why even post this. I didn't think he was going with Michigan. But I stupidly got a little hope up. Lot's of good teams wanted him.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:23 PM ^
Because we need corners, he visited Sunday so there was at least some interest and there’s not much else going on in our sports world. It’s not as if it’s off topic.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
I think the issue is that you didn't include a dozen embedded tweets to flesh out the story.
January 30th, 2023 at 7:28 PM ^
I had just walked in the door from work. I didn't expect him to choose Michigan anyway.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
He would be practicing every day against five star wide receivers.
Name one OSU corner that this has helped since Meyer left. OSU’s secondary, relative to the amount of talent it recruits, is and has been atrocious since at least last season.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
Who are they even pitching him as being at this point? Their last highly drafted CB was Okudah who has been terrible in the NFL
January 30th, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
I just learned that Damon Arnette is not just another mediocre former Buckeye CB, but a bad former Buckeye CB who managed to screw up his first-rounder money.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
The CB is from some national guy (Chris Hummer) I've never heard of who appears to be based out of Texas and has a 60% accuracy rate. Not sure why he'd have any specific insight into this recruitment.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:13 PM ^
In other recruiting news, Harbor just received a South Carolina prediction. Commence board meltdown. Recruiting again sucks.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
The Michigan Recruiting Insider that aired on Friday was interesting. Sam and Brice were basically saying they still think Michigan leads for Harbor going into his Oregon visit and would put it at 60% Michigan and 40% the field. They also said that if Harbor abides by his stated criteria (which is a big if) then Michigan should be the pick. Michigan is actually currently higher ranked in track than Oregon. They also said that other school's analysts are also confident, but Sam and Brice see some parallels to the Jyaire Hill recruitment with Harbor trying to make his recruitment entertaining
January 30th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
Sam always hedging his bet.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:27 PM ^
Huge homer take.
January 30th, 2023 at 7:20 PM ^
Track rankings means nothing to track and field recruits. Only coaches and their development for the Olympics matters more to athletes who has Olympic aspirations.
January 30th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
Beware the Sam Webb Kool-Aid.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
I don't think anything is surprising anymore. NIL made every recruitment a wildcard. It's kind of refreshing in a way. I used to get butthurt about kids picking other schools over Michigan, but now I can always just default to "oh, well he probably got more money to go to ____________". Puts the blame on money instead of anything else. Like when a hot chick is with an ugly rich guy.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:46 PM ^
Call me when Warde or Ono fixes NIL. Until then, we are fighting an uphill battle in every recruitment.
January 31st, 2023 at 2:26 AM ^
What is broken with NIL? Can you explain what Michigan needs to do better?
Can you please provide a few examples of schools who are doing NIL correctly?
January 30th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
I don't know of any evidence that Michigan has ever led for Harbor. A meltdown wouldn't make sense unless Maizen is still lurking here.
January 31st, 2023 at 2:29 AM ^
There was a point that all "insiders" agreed that Michigan led - all of them, not just Michigan insiders...but that was like November and he wasn't signing early so I don't think anyone believed that it mattered back then.
The same can be said for NT Jamel Howard.
Michigan led for him when he decommitted...but that was 3 months ago.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
Always great to get that level talent, but if he's playing TE or WR and no one knows if he can catch, then meh. The board's comparrison to George Campbell is probably apt.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
To clarify, when I say I can see them pitching the practicing against 5 star receivers every day, I’m not saying that is a logical pitch or that will help him against us or to get to the NFL, I can just see Day’s cheesy ass saying it trying to make sure we don’t land him.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
Partridge!!!!!
January 30th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
Who gave the OSU crystal ball? Not in the original post.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:01 PM ^
It’s a national 247 guy. Our locals haven’t joined in yet but others are reporting Sam says it’s not gonna be us
January 30th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
I don't have any insight as to what will happen with this recruitment or with Nyckoles Harbor, other than to say there is a 100% chance of wailing and gnashing of teeth if we don't get one or both or every five star recruit ever. The coaching staff can't recruit, we're fuxxing up NIL, THE GOLDARNED SKY IS FALLING. FIRE EVERYONE.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
EVERYONE!!!
January 31st, 2023 at 2:37 AM ^
I'm Indifferent on Harbor because he's not great with the ball in the air, he doesn't have great agility, and his route running needs a ton of work. All issues for someone playing WR/TE in a Funchess/Evan Engram role.
The CB would be a huge blow. I've been vocal that we need another elite CB (+ another guy with experience).
It's by far the weakest position on the team after losing Turner and Green. The guys we have returning will compete, and there will be PT for anyone who rises to the top...but they're young and we still need guys who've already done it.
The only saving grace is...it doesn't have to be today. We can go through the spring with what we have, get more reps to guys and hope a Ja'Den McBurrows type develops into that #3. When the portal opens again in May...getting the best CB available will be imperative. And now you only need 1 CB instead of 2.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:00 PM ^
That would suck to miss out on him but there is no doubt that this year proved they need him more than we do. Hopefully he is just trolling them. Go Blue!
January 30th, 2023 at 5:00 PM ^
I don't see the Crystal Ball pick! Where is the crystal ball? Madam Cleo, still in business?
January 30th, 2023 at 5:03 PM ^
Bummer
January 30th, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
Obviously Day has hired Partridge as an "analyst."
January 30th, 2023 at 5:40 PM ^
UM could use a corner but they have options on the team. I also think people sometimes overrate playing time on bad defenses. I'm sure he's talented but not breaking into the lineup at UM behind two upperclassmen corners on a top-10 defense shouldn't invalidate the guys on the roster
January 30th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
This is just not true. He would absolutely be a starter opposite Will. It’s really not even close.
January 30th, 2023 at 6:33 PM ^
No doubt there are options on the roster, but there is a reason Will Johnson came in as an instant impact player. Same as Dax and Jabrill. Igbinosun is closer to their profiles than the majority of options on the roster currently. He's not a slam dunk but his ceiling is very high and he's already proven he can stay on the field against SEC competition.
January 31st, 2023 at 2:52 AM ^
Will Johnson did it.
Green was also assaulted and out for multiple games.
Michigan was also ahead by enough to rotate in other guys (just like Rolder broke into ths rotation at LB or El-Hadi at LG).
There were opportunities for guys to play last year with and without those two experienced CBs. Only one guy did it.
Guys typically flash before they develop into starters...or you at least hear practice hype. There have been a few whispers on McBurrows before he got hurt...and that's it.
Time to take off the maize and blue glasses...if we had guys who were ready, we would have seen them.
Even guys like Stokes, Clemons, Morris, and Micah Pollard have gotten meaningful snaps under their belt...even if they didn't have a huge role. Just getting more than garbage time is an accomplishment.
We had starters injured at CB, plenty of garbage time, plenty of opportunities. And all year the #2s were Jalen Perry and Keshaun Harris...and then Perry got hurt and it was German Green and Keshaun Harris.
So the young guys didn't even pass up the #2s, let alone break into the rotation. Not sure I understand what you're talking about.
Kody Jones was the closest one...and he plays NB behind Sainristil and Rod Moore (when we went with 3 safeties and plays Moore with Paige and Moten). So you can't even count him.
This isn't OL. We've seen Persi, El-Hadi, Crippen, Anderson, Atteberry, and even Gentry. CB doesn't have a single guy like those 5 or 6.
Right now we're just praying for McBurrows AND Jyaire Hill to be at least HM All-B1G caliber players. That's a huge ask. It would be a heck of a lot easier to have a 2nd starter and then bank on one of those two (or Harris, Green, Perry) to develop into that 3rd starter.
Michigan has a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP team, minus one position (assuming K and P are solid). Now is the time to go all-in, not bank on guys who couldn't break into the 2-deep to miraculously develop into starters.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:40 PM ^
boooooooooooooooooooooooo
January 30th, 2023 at 6:19 PM ^
Well said Joe!
January 30th, 2023 at 6:56 PM ^
Please just go to Rutgers instead, or anyone not named Ohio State.
January 30th, 2023 at 7:25 PM ^
If Im playing Michigan next season I may just send the WR Johnson is covering on a fly route damn near every play then just work underneath him.
January 31st, 2023 at 2:59 AM ^
Nightmares of Brandon Watson trying to cover crossing routes will haunt me forever.
January 30th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
Guess we can go after Jaheim Singletary from Georgia. Not sure if he would be even remotely interested though
January 30th, 2023 at 9:14 PM ^
Ryan Day will be at OSU in a year (maybe) while Jim will be flirting with 8 NFL teams next January.
January 31st, 2023 at 3:04 AM ^
lol can't let it go...
January 30th, 2023 at 9:34 PM ^
I imagine looking at the UM vs OSU film and seeing those OSU DBs get fried by UM WRs, its much easier to see playing time.
January 31st, 2023 at 12:00 AM ^
He’ll still end up at Tennessee.
January 31st, 2023 at 2:27 PM ^
It only took about 12 hours for me to be proven wrong.
January 31st, 2023 at 8:07 AM ^
Probably figures OSU academics will be more compatible with what he has experienced at UMiss.
