Pats have 5 picks on Day 2. They should take a TE in the first round but still need a pass rusher and DB help. Take Chase and David, BB. Do it.
Be liking some Winovich in Foxboro! Corner is one of the deeper spots on current roster. Can't see them taking a corner early, which means they will in 1st. Will be interesting if BB is in AA for pro day.
Corner is one of the deeper spots on current roster.
Eh, idk about that, it will depend on what roster moves the Pats make. J-Mac, Rowe, and Jonathon Jones are all free agents. If they let two of those three walk, they'll need to add someone. They have Duke Dawson waiting, but he's an unknown right now. I could also see someone getting moved to Safety, with D-Mac and Chung aging, which would also create a need at corner.
Believe JMac will be back. Jackson showed promise and expect them to retain at least 1 of Rowe or Jones. One of the better position groups they've drafted and developed, especially with FA's. If only they could do that with WR's! Could see them targeting depth at safety before addressing CB's. Dawson and FA they signed mid year, used to play at UConn might be in the mix. Was excited about Dawson, think once he got hurt, decided to "red-shirt".
They'll definitely get some WR help in the draft, maybe multiple. Andy Isabella from UMass is so "Patriots WR" that it's almost offensive.
I'm sick of rooting for Belichek.. with Brady approaching retirement no more Wolverines to the Pat's please and thanks.
Likewise. I'm done with NE and Belichek once TB retires.
Belichick, he’s your daddy, spell his name correctly.
So does that make Eli nerv's grandfather?
He's going to impress in all his interviews, too. Always enjoyed hearing David speak in interviews.
He's listed at 227. That can't be right can it? If so, he really bulked up. It ain't flab if he still ran sub 4.5
combine has him at 196
did you get the weight from the LB named David Long? because that one is 227
just going to post same thing, looks like he's looking at the 'other' David Long
Long is a guy that's so good that nobody threw at him, so he didn't have a lot of opportunity to jack up his stats. He should be a really good NFL player!
plus all the average WRs in the B1G
The non-conference teams didn't do anything against him, either. Teams picked on Lavert Hill and Brandon Watson, and they didn't have success against Watson until Ohio State ran mesh 75 times.
I think that was a reference to the MSU corner who said during an interview that all of the receivers he covered in the B1G are average receivers, thus undermining his efforts to enhance his draft position. It was a very Sparty thing to do; make yourself worse off just so that you can take someone else down a peg. The Little Bro is strong with that one.
Impressive.
That's faster than I thought he'd run. He was the best athlete of the 3 CBs last year and looked the fastest, but I didn't expect mid 4.4s. Thought he'd be closer to Lewis who was in the 4.5.
InB4 “wasted talent” BPONERS drop their bile in yet another thread.
The Gary Bashers over the last few weeks have been ridiculous. They're all Gail the Snail.
I'm with you - He was so fucking good that opposing teams didn't even target receivers in his direction! I thought he deserved higher recognition than Vert this year, who was also very good but not as excellent as D.Long.
If you wanted to get into it the wasted talent in the secondary this year was ambry Thomas. He’s the guy on the bench that had the athleticism to match up with the osu inside guys when it was clear after the first drive that Watson couldn’t.
Ambry was not a polished corner last year. I doubt he would have fared better vs OSU.
What polish did he need to chase a drag route? Sometimes you just gotta put your fastest guy on their fastest guy.
Deion Sanders was very complimentary of Long after the first drill. Said he was the only guy who did it correctly. Made sure to go speak to him after the drill as well.
Thank you for describing said drill and why it is important for the CB position. Great context
i take it google is hard for you?
My greedy wish...again...is for these guys to get drafted by the Lions. I'll get the chance of cheering for these guys for a few more years before they bolt and get a guaranteed SB ring.
I'll never understand "fans" that wish bad things on our guys...smh...
Exactly, the Detroit lie-downs are a black hole of an organization.
What other team has had the likes of a Barry and Calvin just quit playing out of frustration.
Yeah I'd actually root for the Lions (instead of my current MO which is hoping they continue to improve on the spectacular nature of their implosions) if they drafted more Michigan guys like Gary...but my God do I hope he's selected before Detroit at 8. Just for the sake of his career and his sanity.
4.45 official time for Long
Jamel Dean is an unbelievable story. Runs the fastest time at any position with a 4.30. Urban Meyer tried to end his career before it even began by trying to force him to take a medical hardship as an early enrollee because he didn't have enough scholarships for his incoming class. He dropped out of OSU and enrolled at Auburn and will now be a millionaire no thanks to Urban Meyer.
Also got actual WR coaching instead of learning how to order bulk adult toys from Zach Smith?
Jamel Dean is a DB.
Urbz and zach are both DBs, but the other bad kind of DB.
I'm sure Pope Urban smelled like vinegar.
best post of the day!
Oops. My mind was on WR's (and adult toys), not DB's.
But I feel no remorse for creating an opportunity to disparage Zach Smith.
not a receiver, but I like where your head's at!
I wonder if Gentry is re-thinking going to the nfl just to “stick it to the twitter trolls”
Great times. I'm sort of bummed we don't get another year from him; he felt like the best corner this year rather handily.
Michigan really showing up well in this combine.
Over the past two years, Long was pretty much invisible and got almost zero fan hype, but I don't mean that as a negative. Long was a player who, when you listed our stars, you never thought of and there was almost no discussion of him.
The reason was that he was so damn good at his job that you forgot that he was out there. He just blanketed his man or covered his zone, the ball was rarely thrown in his direction and so he was almost never on screen. He didn't have a ton of interceptions or even tackles because, again, the ball was rarely thrown his way because he was so damn good. To me, that's the mark of a great corner.
I suspect that of all of the players coming out this year, Long may end up being the most productive in the NFL (although Bush and Chase will likely give him a run for his money).
Long pressed Simmie Cobbs into pieces in '17 and nobody threw at him again.
Very impressive. That will get him drafted at that position. Looks like he is going to go 3-6th round.
Had a 6.45 second 3-cone drill which is the best at the combine since at least 2006 per the Twitters. Next best for this year was 6.70.
Also Bush joined Derwin James as the only defensive players in the last 6 years to post sub-4.5 40, a 40 inch vert and 20+ bench reps.
Wouldn't it have been interesting to see Devin Bush play running back?
Most under appreciated player at Michigan the last decade
