Bummer

After the game, he had a brief appearance on TV holding up a celebratory newspaper cover and looking like a tourist wandering around: big smile, taking it all in, and saying "Hi, mom!".

Could see this coming from a mile away. Gotta go out and get some WRs from the portal. Too bad Ja'Corey Brooks chose Louisville. Then again maybe we dodged a bullet if he only went there for NIL.

Yeah injuries really took a toll on his career for Michigan.  Wish he would've stuck around though. Morris and Morgan seem like a fine 1 and 2, but we really don't have much past them and lack a big bodied outside guy with the departure of Johnson. Hopefully we can get someone from the portal, or maybe English could step up as a deep threat.

I think it was reasonable to think he'd get a starting role because he plays a different WR spot than those guys you mentioned.

One of those guys is a slot and the other will replace Roman Wilson.

Clemons was certainly on track to replace CJ. Now we really don't have a possession guy with a big frame that isn't a TE.

Anthony is gone. Walker plays CB.

Fair to assume he'd be in the mix for sure. But to be WR #1 - which IMO (which is meaningless in the grand scheme of things) means he's the best WR we have - is a stretch. Maybe I view WR #1 differently, not just an outside WR but the guy who is the best WR out there. I think guys like Morris and Morgan would end up being more important to the offense than Clemons would have.

I thought Ronnie Bell was our WR #1 when he was healthy, despite lining up in the slot often, because he was our best talent at that position.

If the original comment was meant to say he was gonna be a starting WR on the outside, I wouldn't have had much issue with it.

Regardless, the way this program is built our WR's are a tertiary offensive option so I am not at all worried about that position group. We are in a great position with our RB and TE rooms, and those two are far more important to the Harbaugh offense than WR. Assuming Harbaugh returns or Moore replaces him and continues this style. If neither of those things happen, then all bets are off.

Based on what tho? His height?

Fred Moore, a very generic Ronnie Bell-level recruit freshman came in a got snaps over Clemons.

I had hopes for him when he signed, but he's done not 1 thing except toast a walk-on in the Spring Game in 2 years.

I wish him well, but I'm not worried about his departure. 🤷‍♂️

Neither played a lot, but it just isn't true Moore was getting snaps over Clemons except for when Darrius was injured at the beginning of the year.

And if we're going to use that, then Clemons "passed" more because at the end of the season he was the one getting more snaps.

Neither played a whole lot. I don't know how anyone could say one was definitively better than the other, especially when they don't play the same WR position.

O'Leary was the one, if anyone, taking snaps from Clemons.

Was best player in Oregon, but except for one cool play in the spring game, and some rare regular season appearances, meh.  Love his size and speed, but without any real movement in 2 years, I am not surprised he’s headed out.  Maybe back to the West Coast, and we’ll see him on one of the newest B1G teams…

Any word on Jahmal Banks, the 6-4 WR from Wake Forest that visited? Getting a guy with his level of production would alleviate concerns/provide a solid floor for the outside guys...

its funny how many people are "concerned about depth next year"

been hearing that about various position groups for the last several years..... yet some how the coaching staff was able to put together a team that made the CFP three years in a row and won a National Championship.

We have a bunch of slot type guys and while the Ronnie’s and the Romans are great it was also really nice to have a nico and a CJ no one like that on current roster.  I’m still elated we took the championship but next years team is going to look way different

disnt want to start a new thread but Rod Heard from Northwestern who was A CB we were believed to be the favorite for transferred to notre dame.  Was hoping a national championship would creat more momentum like it did for bama, ohio, and Georgia.

If he can bulk up I think that might be a good plan. Maybe look at doing Position switches for some of our bigger corners that don’t look like the will crack the rotation. Otherwise we need to get some guys from the portal. Even more so if JJ leaves because then we will have no experience at QB or wideout. That’s not a good combination given next year‘s schedule.

Do you think they don't target WRs much in Michigan's offense because they're bad?

I see it as it's just not a big part of Michigan's offense. Multiple ample plentiful opportunities to target them vs Washington with the box crowded & Loveland being shadowed every snap, but no. Didn't even throw to Blake after his great receiving game vs bama.

The Michigan offense is like Popeye, man - they're strong & they are what they are 🤷‍♂️

I think it is a function of our style and the kind of personnel that we have. Not sure if we will be able to reload on OL with as many good run-blockers next year. And who knows how the RB room works out. Hopefully, we can pick up where we left off but it not we will need to adapt, even if the coaches feel that this year‘s offense is the ideal system that they want to run. No matter how good our returning WR roster is, it’s clear that there are not enough options at present to make for a good competition for the two-deep because there aren’t many upperclassmen to chase for playing time, nor to learn from. Our most experienced guy looks like Semaj and he’s a sophomore slot. We had better get cooking in th portal for Jahmal Banks at Wake or whomever else bubbles up.

Curious whether there was ever a discussion how Harbaugh approached Mike Sainristil about switching to defense?

I get it that a former 4 star may not be willing to make the change and not everyone can do it, but if the long term goal is to play in the NFL, might be worth considering.

Ugghh that sucks. Really excited for him when he committed. Would think he would have a major role next year with Roman and Johnson gone.

Clemons needs to make the decision that's best for him, and if that means leaving, wish him well.

He's a talented player, but didn't perk to the top of the depth chart.  If anything, it seemed to me to be a run tip when he was in the game.  If he chooses to leave it will not be some crushing blow, instead it'll just leave a vague sense of disappointment over what could have been.

No matter what, if he leaves he leaves as a NATIONAL CHAMPION.
