Dan Lanning staying at Oregon
I gotta hand it to him; this was a cool way to announce that he's not a candidate for the 'Bama opening.

Washington is coming in on half pay, UW has always struggled a bit in recruiting, and Bama/UM are just flat out better jobs.

DeBoer doesn't seem like the right fit there. But if Lanning, Sark, and Kiffin all say no, he might be their only choice. (I still hope they pull Kirby away from Georgia just for the sheer insanity, but that's not realistic)

Who’s Next?
January 11th, 2024 at 2:34 PM ^
Probably Dabo
January 11th, 2024 at 3:52 PM ^
Good luck to Bama if that's the case. Dabo is not the right man for the job in the NIL era.

He also has a substantial buyout. It's been reported at $20 million but Feldman says its actually much more then that. It could also be that Alabama wasn't willing to pay that much to pry him out of Oregon.
January 11th, 2024 at 3:05 PM ^
It's more because of his nike stock attached to staying at Oregon.
January 11th, 2024 at 3:52 PM ^
I'm pretty sure Alabama has the boosters to pay any coach whatever he wants.
January 11th, 2024 at 2:38 PM ^
Good. I want him in the B1G and to keep Oregon a top 10 brand in CFB. Then they would be everything PSU wanted to be but wasn't.
January 11th, 2024 at 2:44 PM ^
I hear DeBoar is HIGH on Bama list

Doing it for clicks.

Lanning is the greatest argument for elevating Moore to HC if Harbaugh leaves. Similar age and track record.
If Moore is the guy I hope he hires a talented OC who can develop the passing game. Passing game has to be the off-season project regardless if JJ returns or not. I would like to see some NIL invested in getting someone like Evan Stewart from A&M who is a terrific young WR to go with what they got.

I mean, passing game needs to get better so no argument there; but the physical run game and huddles (apparently) perplexed a lot of teams.
Would be nice to get the most out of Jadyn Davis and Carter Smith though. Pair the physical pro style of Michigan with a good passing game and we’d be nigh to unbeatable.

Not saying go away from running game. That’s Michigan’s identity.
But I would like to see more creativity in playcalling, greater ability of WRs to get separation..etc. A lot of the breakdowns offensively this year I felt had to do with deficiencies in the above stated areas.
Morris, Semaj, and Loveland are a very good nucleus. Would love to see English and Moore come on. Would like to see some more size at WR.

I think we'd all like the pass game to be better. I definitely would. However, didn't they just prove that the pass game doesn't need to be better? They won a championship and beat the #1 passing team -- with what we had. And I'll be the first to admit, I didn't think we could do it without a better passing game and/or JJ running a lot more.

You can’t assume that what worked yesterday will work tomorrow. Coaches know this which is why I know that they are working to improve to the passing
I am not advocating for the tools to be changed, only that the current tools are enhanced.

Glad to see you came around on this.
January 11th, 2024 at 2:54 PM ^
They say they're staying...until they don't.
January 11th, 2024 at 3:16 PM ^
Benefit of the doubt to Lanning, but I won't truly believe it until Alabama announces the next head coach.
January 11th, 2024 at 3:05 PM ^
Dang. Gonna be playing them a lot more than Bama. Well maybe not a lot.
January 11th, 2024 at 3:06 PM ^
Was he toking on a fatty at the end there after saying the grass is damn green in Eugene?
Straight up bad ass. Glad they are joining the Big.
January 11th, 2024 at 3:11 PM ^
I'm a converted Dan Lanning fan now.
January 11th, 2024 at 3:18 PM ^
Lanning gets a lot of hype, but I haven't really been that impressed. He should've beaten Washington once, if not twice. And all his analysis of the championship game beforehand and at halftime was completely wrong. At halftime he sounded like he was hoping Michigan's defense would fail, just to save himself the embarrassment of seeing another team accomplish what he couldn't accomplish in two opportunities. I wouldn't have been excited for Lanning if I were a Bama fan (given their standards and the attractiveness of the job).

Who wants to follow Saban? You're set up for utter failure...
January 11th, 2024 at 3:40 PM ^
Didn’t even have to use his AK.
January 11th, 2024 at 4:18 PM ^
Translation: "You 'Bama boosters need to up your game. Saban got his mortgage paid for. Phil Knight is printing money here with my face on it."
January 11th, 2024 at 4:30 PM ^
IF YOU ARE SCARED YOUR COACH IS LEAVING, THEN COME PLAY FOR US
Pretty compelling argument for them.
For us . . . yeah, I got nothing.
January 11th, 2024 at 8:24 PM ^
You do not want to be the man after the man.
The next guy is going to be crucified for not winning NC every 2 years. The guy after him will be a great place to be.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:31 AM ^
Lanning seems like the kind of guy who really means it. He also seems like he kind of guy that wants to build his own legacy and be known as the godfather of his own program rather than someone who sits in the long shadow of Nick Saban as the designated successor. Probably because of ego/pride but he seems like he wants his own statue in Eugene.
