Corum is having knee surgery
Sources: #Michigan star RB Blake Corum is expected to have knee surgery and is out for the season. The Heisman candidate should make a full recovery. He tried to play last week vs. Ohio State but his knee made it impossible.

Agreed that it's worth waiting for a diagnosis, but he had an acute injury followed by obvious pain/limitation, and now a scheduled knee surgery. That confluence of events is entirely consistent with an acute/structural injury. They would not be doing surgery for edema or scar tissue in this instance.
December 1st, 2022 at 5:24 PM ^
Yeah, there's no "swelling, scar tissue surgery"
December 1st, 2022 at 2:39 PM ^
Could be something that while it wouldn't get worse, he simply doesn't have the strength to play at and wouldn't in the time frame they are working with which is 6 weeks or so, making no sense in delaying surgery.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
Pry couldn't get worse if played, but wouldn't be at 100% / resets the length of recovery.
This way he's (hopefully) ready for NFL combine / workouts to gain back his draft stock. Otherwise playing through not 100% and then surgery after lowers stock even more.

I mean, there are always different treatment options and I assume Corum and the staff wanted to see if he could go. There's probably a world where he could just let the injury recover naturally but the timeline is longer and if he's shooting to go pro it would make more sense to get it over sooner rather than later surgically. I know fans love to presume incompetence everywhere but its natural that there are multiple options and people are prone to pick the one that carries the shortest potential downtime initially.
December 1st, 2022 at 4:23 PM ^
Exactly. We know very little about the injury and the options that were available.

Trainers don't diagnose things things. Doctors do.

MIke Sanristil to running back???
December 1st, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
AJ Henning ?
December 1st, 2022 at 2:39 PM ^
I think this is a good idea.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
Weren’t there rumours of a Deebo Samuel package with him earlier in the year ?
December 1st, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
They are just waiting for the right time to use it.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:39 PM ^
Somebody tell me why this is a bad idea before it gets engrained into my head...
December 1st, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
Michael Barrett. The man cannot be stopped.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
Literally true. And I know this is a running joke but now I'm actually curious to see it ...
December 1st, 2022 at 5:12 PM ^
Like moving Mickey Stanley to shortstop. Plus, he still got to bat. So Michael Barrett at LB & RB
December 1st, 2022 at 8:41 PM ^
I prefer to watch an Orji in the end zone.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:41 PM ^
Michael Barrett.
December 1st, 2022 at 3:06 PM ^
Don't be ridiculous. JJ will play RB and Mikey takes over at QB. Somebody in the stands asked him to and he said "sure, how hard could it be?".
December 1st, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
It just seemed like the way that it initially happened on the field, there was something to that, and when they tried to use him at OSU and he didn't really look quite himself, I had a feeling that we might see a story like this at some point. Glad to see there's a plan and hopefully it is a expeditious (inasmuch as such injuries allow) and speedy recovery.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
FUCK!!!
It's Donovan's time to (continue to) shine!

AMRBHG lives. :(
December 1st, 2022 at 2:39 PM ^
Feel terrible for him that he won’t be able to play in the post-season, but I’m wishing him a speedy recovery and the highest possible draft position. 2023 is coming at us fast - it’s the JJ and Donovan show now.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:39 PM ^
Theory: "out for season" really means the B1G season. He has almost two months to heal in time for 1/20/2023 if indeed it is something like scoping. We're just trying to throw people off. Yep, going with that. I feel better.
*Edit* 1/09/2023 (CFP championship, I had the wrong date)
December 1st, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
What happens on 1/20/23?
December 1st, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
the Pro Bowl
December 1st, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
I'll have you know that 1/20 is National Cheese Lovers Day, sir.
Here is hoping Corum is back by then.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
The championship game is Jan 9th.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:51 PM ^
Yep, my bad, wrong year.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
Probably long term rest or surgery are options. May be opting for surgery to be available sooner for pros.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:41 PM ^
Well that sucks. Wish him the best in his recovery. I assume he's going pro but I guess we'll find find out afterwards.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
Hate that for him. Such a great year, sad to see it end this way.
Hopefully Morris and Schoon will be back. Also be nice if Edwards could get the hard cast of his hand so maybe he can catch out of the backfield?
December 1st, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
Best of luck with the surgery and recovery, Blake. I’m glad the #4 rusher in terms of yards per carry is on the roster, though.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
The Donovan Edwards 2023 Heisman hype train is full steam ahead.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
Well shit. So much for all the trending good news on this
December 1st, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
It blows, wish he could play, and I hope he has a healthy rehab. On the positive side we didn’t need him to blow out OSU by 22. So there’s that going forward 🫠
December 1st, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
Does anyone know what is officially wrong with Edward's hand? We all saw the cast, but I don't recall anyone actually saying "he did X to his hand".
Did I just miss the announcement somewhere?
December 1st, 2022 at 2:47 PM ^
Rumor before we saw the cast was a broken thumb, so I'm assuming that it was accurate.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:51 PM ^
Ahhh.
Well if that's the case, then this Saturday would make three weeks. Google tells me it usually takes 3-6 weeks for a broken thumb to heal. So we just need to get through the Purdue game and then theoretically he should be 100% for the first round of the playoffs.
December 1st, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
Yeah, the rumors started during the Rutgers game. I can't imagine he wouldn't be good by the CFP even if it took a little longer. Thats 8 whole weeks. Corum is a big blow but I think we have an elite backup in Edwards. The worry comes from the depth. Stokes needs to step up big time.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
Would be nice if he had the use of both hands for the playoffs.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
He could run but couldn’t make cuts. Any MGoOrthos wish to chime in, but mcl/acl?
December 1st, 2022 at 2:44 PM ^
Well then. Today has been a joy. Strange to me that he felt like he'd "see how things go"... To possibly play this weekend... Which we all doubted. But now surgery
December 1st, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
Gutted for Blake. Hoping he gets a well deserved trip to NYC to cap off his All American season.
Can’t wait to watch and root for him on Sundays
December 1st, 2022 at 2:46 PM ^
Ugh. My thoughts and prayers are for Blake to have a 100% recovery. But bummer man…..
December 1st, 2022 at 2:46 PM ^
That hurts. Still think we have enough to challenge for the title. GO BLUE!!
December 1st, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
Damnit. Smart of him to get it fixed and (presumably) go make his living in the NFL.
I don't know whether to be unconcerned because our offense looked unstoppable even without him in the 2nd half on Saturday, or very concerned because our offense has looked very pedestrian the rest of the time he wasn't available.
December 1st, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
Get well soon, Blake!
December 1st, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
FUUUUUUCK
