Coaches and update on Worthy
In regards to Wariner to Jax. I have not heard that yet from anyone of substance, and it's very hard for me to believe EW would go, however as Judas taught us, anything can happen. What I did hear is that EW was contemplating staying in town another year, in what capacity I'm not sure.
I've been friends with Brett a few years, he has no more on this story. (see attachment text)
There is momentum gaining on Xavier Worthy finding a way into school (EE). Sounds like Michigan admissions may have made a mistake. Not sure if the covid stuff from last night effects this or not. Reaching out to a few people this morning to confirm or deny that Xavier actually may be on campus, or arriving soon.
Cheers

Thanks, GoJ!!! Your updates are gold!
But if Warinner isn't going to Jax, why would he leave? I understand staying in town because his kid is in school (and on the team). I guess this is where the analyst rumors came from... All I can think is that there was some falling out between JH and EW. Maybe he was demoted - or, more likely, just not promoted despite the movement amongst the staff? I'm speculating here, of course!
Any chance you can dig something up about why EW is no longer on staff?
January 24th, 2021 at 8:56 AM ^
From what I've read elsewhere EW's contract ended and Harbaugh didn't renew him in a coaching capacity. No one seems to know for sure if the analyst thing is a real possibility... my speculation is that it might just be a face saving thing to make it look like he wasn't outright fired. But if he does come back as an analyst I guess it shows they like him for something other than coaching.

There had to be some falling out for a guy like Warinner to be let go. His OL coaching resume speaks for itself. Either that or Jim just really wanted Bellamy on staff and Warinner was the odd man out. Interesting move to say the least.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:32 AM ^
It’s been implied he didn’t get along with some other coaches and was big reason why a certain OL transferred out.
January 24th, 2021 at 10:29 AM ^
What’s so great about his resume? Osu didn’t miss a beat after he left.
2019 was ugly considering he had 4 nfl lineman handed to him by the previous regime.
2018 was good because pep had a body blow mentality with a good Qb run game.
January 24th, 2021 at 11:36 AM ^
Unfortunately OSU doesn't miss a beat after anyone leaves. Not sure we can draw any inferences from that situation.
January 24th, 2021 at 1:24 PM ^
Everybody seems to be in love with him, but our O lines have been pretty mediocre.
January 24th, 2021 at 2:45 PM ^
Boy did he get our OL back on track. He did a great job for Michigan
January 24th, 2021 at 1:56 PM ^
At Warinner's age, they don't want to be on road and recruit...its a real drag. Instead, to be an analyst, and get to pick the players we pursue, eliminates the grind.
January 24th, 2021 at 12:20 PM ^
I posted a while back that Jim was frustrated and even thought about leaving college football. His main point of frustration was losing recruiting battles with OSU, ND, PSU, .... He told John about this and one reason that Mike is being brought in as new DC was John's recommendation that he would be a terrific recruiter and a good DC. Almost every move Jim has made during the last 2 weeks has been about recruiting. Warinner is above average OL coach but Jim realizes that every coach on his team has to be an above average recruiter if he wants to have any chance of being a contender.
January 24th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
This makes sense, but the recruiting on the OL has been at or near tops of any position on the team. Surely Warriner was part of this. Can't imagine other coaches recruited all these highly rated OL.
January 24th, 2021 at 1:52 PM ^
I’m not 100% sure on this but many of our top OL players were recruited by other coaches.
January 24th, 2021 at 2:40 PM ^
yea i am also confused by your comment.. Warinner brought in some good guys, but our most highly recruited O-Lineman were both coaches before him.
We have also missed on a shitload of 1st Round O-lineman that i remember it coming down to us or another team and we never got them. Now i was watching most of these guys in the NFL this year remembering how we almost got this guy or that guy.
We needed a major recruiting overhaul and it looks like harbaugh has done that. Time will tell if it will work, but you don't know if you never try.
January 24th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
While it is true we haven't been recruiting at the level of OSU (very few do), player development has been much more of a problem for us than recruiting. We have been recruiting at roughly the same level as ND or PSU. There is simply no excuse for a team, even a young team, that finishes in the top 20 in recruiting every year looking as bad as we looked in 2020.
January 24th, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
It took six years plus two previous college head coaching jobs to figure this out?
This is one of the parts of Harbaugh which is so frustrating. It takes him so long to adapt he seems a couple seasons behind where he needs to be.
I have no doubt the past few seasons have been very humbling for him. Hopefully he got his wake up call. He’s certainly made the tough choices with his staff to try to do something different. We will see if he can also change his approach to how the game is played and managed.
January 24th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
How does that work with Nua? Do you have any info on if Harbaugh is very confident in his recruiting chops? It seems he must be based on your post but any idea based on what?
January 24th, 2021 at 1:41 PM ^
I know Harbaugh has under-performed but the dude is a fucking warrior. He punched Jim Kelley in the jaw and Jim Kelley got jaw cancer. (Not funny I know.). Harbaugh was Nick named captain comeback for a reason. F all y’all. I’m on the Harbaugh express. (I’ve also had two beers while skiing with the kids. HARBAUGH!!!!!!
January 24th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
Where are you skiing ?
January 24th, 2021 at 2:00 PM ^
Please count me among those very pleased with the coaching changes. A commitment to bolster recruiting is a very necessary and appropriate move. These changes had to be hard because it seems that Coach Harbaugh is very loyal by nature. But he made major changes nonetheless. Good luck Coach Harbaugh and Go Blue!
January 24th, 2021 at 4:38 PM ^
I wish our Aussie poster would change his profile back to the Harbaugh train, choo choo MF!
January 24th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
Well, then JH should have dinner with Wiltfong, and find out exactly what his perception of the recruiting program being disorganized, is, and leave no stone unturned, because if true, then it'll negate the efforts of the new coaches.
I've heard to disregard Wiltfong's indictment of our recruiting because he doesn't like Michigan...to that I say, oftentimes people in high position will tip the weakness of their enemy/rival to them, for the mere fact they know it.
January 24th, 2021 at 4:30 PM ^
Jim probably wanted to move on to the NFL. I think he was frustrated not having the talent to compete with OSU in the east division and seeing his defense slip quite a bit over the last 2 years. Since no NFL teams were interested in his services, he signed the Michigan extension. I hope it kicks Harbaugh back into his higher gear like he was back in 2015-16.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:21 PM ^
Nonsense. several teams would take him in a blink, notably Detroit.
January 24th, 2021 at 8:52 AM ^
Is EW’s kid still on the team? Maybe staying a year to see his kid is worth it. The kid’s mom may think so.
January 24th, 2021 at 8:55 AM ^
That's what I was thinking. Also, WTF is up with these guys leaving the program but staying in town? (McCaffrey)
January 24th, 2021 at 9:03 AM ^
Dooley's, Flipper McGee's...oh wait, that was the previous millenium.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:12 AM ^
They like Ann Arbor and the school but not the football program? Lol...
January 24th, 2021 at 9:16 AM ^
1) Finish semester to stay m good academic standing when transferring.
2) Maintain strength and conditioning using our facilities in a safe environment. Some states don’t have gyms that are open, even if open probably can’t match our facilities and would cost money to use.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:21 AM ^
Guys, I thought it was pretty obvious that Bellamy and Edward's was a package deal from the way Bellamy was pushing him to UM. I would think that Harbaugh had a conversation with EW, and spoke about options. Having said that, being an analyst for a year, at a good pay rate isn't a bad gig.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:32 AM ^
If Harbaugh pushed Warinner out to get a 4 star running back then his mind is further gone than I ever imagined.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:54 AM ^
Yeah, that doesn't strike me as particularly believable. He may have wanted Bellamy on staff but Warinner being gone seems unlikely to be caused by that. I do buy the possibility that Warinner and Harbaugh clashed and that led to a falling out.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:58 AM ^
Again just rumors but it was more than just clashing with JH.
January 24th, 2021 at 11:47 AM ^
I think it was a conflict between Gattis and Ed, and Jim picked Gattis.
No evidence or anything, just seems to me what would make the most sense if he stays as an analyst and helps Moore.
January 24th, 2021 at 12:28 PM ^
If true, then he picked the wrong coach. Again.
January 24th, 2021 at 10:17 AM ^
I understand what you are saying, but with Michigan’s track record of developing elite RBs, I think it’s fine to fire a really good coach when you have the guaranteed upside of a highly-rated RB
/sarcasm
January 24th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
Pushed out? How about not renewed. It's pretty obvious this didn't happen overnight. I would bet that Bellamy was one of his first hires, but only announced after his season was over. It didn't come down to Warriner or Bellamy, but Warriner and someone else, or just Ed we aren't gonna renew you, but you can remain on as an analyst if you don't find anything else.
January 24th, 2021 at 11:18 AM ^
If...
January 24th, 2021 at 9:32 AM ^
McCaffrey was finishing his degree. I don’t believe he’s in AA anymore
January 24th, 2021 at 3:08 PM ^
Imagine being able to enjoy UM and Ann Arbor without the stress of being on the football team...
January 24th, 2021 at 6:01 PM ^
I don’t know how much you can really enjoy Ann Arbor/UM right now, during Covid.
January 24th, 2021 at 10:04 AM ^
ditto
January 24th, 2021 at 8:59 AM ^
It would really suck to lose Warriner
January 24th, 2021 at 11:21 AM ^
can't believe they keep nua and dump warriner, I know they are different positin coaches but still
January 24th, 2021 at 9:09 AM ^
Did you mean to leave your real name in that second pic?
January 24th, 2021 at 9:52 AM ^
Haha. Google search and begin to troll....
January 24th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
Lol someone needs to learn how to crop screenshots
January 24th, 2021 at 11:32 AM ^
And now he’s even more mysterious
January 24th, 2021 at 12:04 PM ^
At least his name fairly generic!
January 24th, 2021 at 2:58 PM ^
This was my first thought.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
GoJ is way ahead of all of us and is using a phone set up as Ryan Brown, despite that not being her REAL name...
