CMU's silence speaks volumes

So we all know CS was on the CMU sideline during the MSU game. But CMU's failure to admit this and explain why it happened speaks volumes. My guess is they're afraid to acknowledge they hired Stalions to be an in-game consultant for the team, or that he snuck into the game incognito. Either scenario would likely be some kind of violation. It explains why McElwain looked so uncomfortable talking about it during his press conference. Makes me wonder if he'll be facing a suspension as well.

What's your theory?

> How could Stalions be standing "shoulder-to-shoulder" with the Wisconsin defensive coordinator without anyone on Wisconsin's staff being aware of this?

I think they meant he was on the Michigan sidelines of that game and that he’s been working for us stealing signs since 2021, which isn’t a violation cause anyone can do that in game. We may as well put up footage from yesterday’s PSU game and say that obviously PSU stole our signs cause their defense knew we were running the ball.  We also couldn’t dial up a pass play cause they stole those signs as well as evidenced by how good their pass rush broke thru our O line early in the game.

BTW, Mike MacDonald...

Find it funny that people point to signs as the reason UM suddenly got good and have yet to see anyone mention Mike MacDonald's promotion back to Ravens as DC, where he is leading one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL, and going to be a NFL HC candidate this offseason.

That, and Michigan finally landing an elite QB. Nope, musta been the signs!

What I want to know is what is being done about the collusion between schools, because to me it seems like everybody is just pretending that nothing happened there.

Is there an investigation going on? I mean the guy that fessed up certainly would have a lot of information regarding the subject. What is going on?????

We don't all know it was Stalions on the sideline. We can suspect it was him, but we don't know.

Whatever the case might be, it's obvious that whoever was on that sideline wasn't supposed to be there officially or else CMU would have cleared it up immediately.

It's possible it will never be clarified what exactly transpired. It may only be one person at CMU whose name is associated with the paper trail, and they might for understandable reasons 'not recall' any of the details.

There are many possibilities.  It may or may not be Stalions.  If it was Stalions, he may or may not have been invited.  If he was invited, it may or may not have been with the knowledge of the head coach.  If he was invited, he may or may not have been paid.  The OP makes another rush to judgment, just like the one about JH we are up in arms about.

It's pretty clear it's Stalions or someone associated with him because other CMU would just name the guy.

CMU realizes that they've got issues now because they authorized another staff member to be on the sideline of a game and unlike UM they can't afford a protracted legal fight with the NCAA (and maybe the MAC) over their transgressions.  There's evidence one of Stalions's buddies was on CMU's staff so that's likely how he got access, and McElwain knows that the NCAA rule about the HC being guilty because of what his underlings do applies to him as well and he's worried about getting punished as hard as Harbaugh.

I suspect the two biggest changes that will come out of this entire situation will be radios in helmets and that agency vicarious liability rule to disappear from the rule book.

I don't know. It wouldn't be "advanced" scouting for CMU, it's the game they're playing at the time. He wasn't recording. So if anything, it would probably fall back on Michigan, again. Advance scouting for us, while helping them decode in game, on the spot. That seems most likely to me, a d would obviously be bad for Michigan.

Hope I'm wrong.

I think he was moonlighting for CMU that game. He was talking with the coaches about the signs he was interpreting from MSU. He was wearing the disguise to prevent Michigan from finding out.

Silence makes it easier to end up with a "we just don't know but it's probably him" ending without any punishment happening to CMU. Personally, I think it is him, but he got a pass through the AD department somehow. Connor went full "G. Gordon Liddy" and tried to "win" anyway possible.

For the most part, CMU has been a "regular" on MSU's schedule, starting in the early 1990s, they've played 12 times, including embarrassing home losses in 1991, 1992, 2009.

We've played them three times.

CMU owes MSU a lot for bankrolling their department.

I think the mob blew a gasket when he saw the photos - buying the tickets was one thing. The mob really scared the weak-kneed commish into action after this story broke.

If it was him, he was invited and given the gear.  If it was not him, then whoever that guy is was invited.  No matter how busy the sideline is, you can't be that close to the head coach without some purpose or someone knowing what you're doing there.

They 100% had him on the sidelines intentionally.

But I don't know if that's good for Michigan. If the CMU coaches knew who he was and what he was up to...how did the Michigan coaches not know?

I'd like to believe he is just an idiot who took his job too seriously and broke rules on his own. But I'm naive.
