CJ Stroud is apparently "injured" and will only play in an "emergency capacity" on Saturday, per Ryan Day
https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2021/09/125226/cj-st…
“Going into this game, we’ve asked C.J. to probably take these last couple of days off and rest that shoulder,” Day said Thursday on his radio show. “Kyle and Jack have done a good job, and so the plan right now is to probably, we’ll see how today goes, but probably use C.J. in somewhat of an emergency capacity on Saturday and play some of those other guys.”
So is he injured or is he "injured"?

So my takeaway from this is that Ryan Day thinks there could be an emergency situation playing against
/checks notes/
Akron…where Stroud could be needed?
Sounds like things are still all screwed up with their defense.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:18 PM ^
Maybe so. But I think it more PR to help protect public opinion of Stroud.

ouch, this must hurt a lot

I believe Michigan will be good enough to beat the best version of OSU in an epic battle this November and I expect that to be the case, but I'll take an epic beatdown of a program in turmoil if that's all they got.
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:56 PM ^
We'll find out if he's "injured" if he ends up in the transfer portal.
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
Does this make anyone wanna jump on Akron +49?
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
Yeah...I dunno.
49 points is, of course, a LOT of points. But, looking at Akron's season results so far, well...
I think I'm staying the hell away from this one.
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:14 PM ^
Its Ohio State. They've got their deal with the devil where nothing bad ever happens. Either Stroud will come back and be incredible for the rest of the season, or one of these backups will come in and light the world on fire
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
Hot take: Quinn Ewers is gonna be the starting QB for OSU by the time November 27 rolls around.
Well, maybe not. But, let's just say that OSU has some really, really good options at the QB position. Options that most teams just don't have.
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:50 PM ^
Actually no one even comes close to the number of 4-5 star QB options they have. Just throw a 5 star on the pile and try another one. /s
Supposedly, Ewers has gotten almost no snaps in practice with the 1s. This week might be different now that CJ is taking a break.
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:06 PM ^
Thought I read somewhere Ewers isn't on campus yet and that he skipped his senior football season since NIL would have made him ineligible
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:24 PM ^
Honestly sounds like a "take a mental break son"
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:29 PM ^
he got pulled basically. This is all BS lol. I see transfer portal soon.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:04 PM ^
I know it's impossible for Michigan fans to believe, but at some point OSU's epic run of good luck is likely to regress to the mean. As regressions go, this one isn't nearly mean enough. But maybe it won't be the only regression they have this season, or maybe it'll be next season, or the one after that…nah, it'll be first one after I die.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
So, you're saying that Ryan Day is gonna ultimately turn out more like John Cooper than Urban Meyer or Jim Tressel.
Right?
;-)
September 23rd, 2021 at 6:04 PM ^
They'd never let Day stick around long enough to be another John Cooper. They'll probably fire him hire Narduzzi and have the best defenses college football has ever seen for a decade because that's how things work for them.
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:06 PM ^
I agree OSU has to return to Earth eventually but it's still taking too long. They don't have a difficult opponent until Halloween weekend so it's not like this injury no matter how big or small will mean anything.
OSU is like a trust fund kid. If he ever reaches the point where he's cut off from touching any of the money, someone from the publisher's clearing house will immediately show up on his front porch with the big check.
When OSU trips, they accidentally fall into a better situation. That's why nobody should be surprised when their backup QB will come in and win the starting job after throwing for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first game.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:24 PM ^
You could probably make a post like this about Joe Milton.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
"Emergency capacity" - hahaha. Their left tackle could play the entire game as the QB and they would still beat Akron by four TD's.
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
The number of people jumping to conclusions here is embarrassing.
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
We’re beating them this year… I just know it!
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
The stats he's putting up for a true freshman does not scream "secret benching" to me.
September 23rd, 2021 at 6:10 PM ^
What kind of emergency, pray tell, would require the injured starter to come into a game versus Akron? Inquiring minds want to know.
September 23rd, 2021 at 6:13 PM ^
Osu can field 10 on offense, just snap and run to beat Akron.
September 23rd, 2021 at 7:53 PM ^
I wish nothing but adversity to them. They have had far too much good luck for far too long. Then when they look beatable, they wheel in home cooking with the officiating crew.
September 23rd, 2021 at 8:19 PM ^
It’s Akron. I might be able to quarterback the Buckeyes to victory in this one.
September 24th, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
Like the entire defense.
Heyoooooooooooo!
