Gene must have consulted for Michigan then. No way the UM Athletic department was smart enough to bury the Brendan Gibbons arrest for 4 years and sweep the Blazer testimony under the rug on their own. I'm sure Gary's mom reported directly to Gene for her "job" at UM as well. Really genius stuff tbh. Well done.

ah, he fired them in the face of incontrovertible evidence that came out despite extreme denials, and were the only way the buckeye admin could save face.  remember, 'i just hope he doesn't fire me'?  yeah, that gene smith, mr. integrity.

i've said it before and i'll say it again:  starting with tressel you all sold your souls to the devil to win football games and it worked - congratulations.  but don't think that anyone outside of your state thinks otherwise.  you guys are SEC north.  congrats.

Except 99% of their fans couldn't give a shit less. Winning football games, particularly against UM, is the only thing that gives them meaning in their lives. It is in fact tied to the very essence of who they are as individuals  Just talk to an average OSU fan, they'll dump a bucket-full of their own still warm diarrhea onto their mom's face if it means continuing to win football games like they have been and beating UM. And the mom, also an OSU fan, would be happy to do it!

I don't care. I didn't sell anything, including my soul or my Gold Pants. I make zero decisions on behalf of the Ohio State athletic department. Occasionally, they cold call me for alumni donations, I wire them $50, and then they send me little stickers for my laptop. Shockingly, I'm not a big deal over there. So, I have no power or control over anything that goes on. Therefore, nothing they do impacts me as a person. I sleep soundly. It's great. If you think the decisions made by random members of Michigan's athletic department make you a better person, that's cool. I mean, it doesn't, but at least you can think that.

So simply being laissez faire about all immoral behavior by those in power absolves you of any kind of individual moral responsibility in a given situation. Phew, I can sleep easy now knowing that if it doesn't impact my life directly, and I can't fix something by myself, I can simply not care and that makes it all ok. If only we all took such a mindset I'm sure the world would be an amazing place!

Oh jon Ross you might think that coming to a Michigan board and telling a bunch of Michigan fans that they have it all wrong about osu fans somehow makes you credible on the subject, but there are plenty of us born and raised in Ohio that witness, on a daily basis, the behavior of osu fans both after wins AND losses.

Its very true.  The football teams success is pivotal to the well being of the fans themselves.  More so than is typical.  I have about two dozen osu fans, many of them osu grads as well, that work for me.  Without osu football to be excited about, these kids would mope around being miserable every day of their life.  They don’t have girlfriends, or social lives that I’ve witnessed, and they certainly don’t make enough money to pleasure themselves through purchases, because I pay them!

LOL, you are such an OSU homer to declare that Smith fired Tressel and Meyer.  Tressel had a show cause... he was fired by the NCAA (which is all but impossible to get to a cash factory like OSU).  Smith had literally no choice other than to outright defy the NCAA.

Meyer was not fired... Smith didn't have the balls to do so.  Unless you're referring to that inconsequential probation slap-on-the-wrist.  Nice how you frame things to fit your narrative and convince yourself that OSU is on the up-and-up amid one damaging story after another.

This was obviously perfectly timed by OSU. They clearly predetermined when they would report this nonsense just so Chase can play versus UM and PSU.

Dumb question... What would an expected punishment have been for this back in the '90s or 2000s? Seems like such a pathetic slap on the wrist, but maybe I'm just misremembering the good old days.

He did get his punishment. A two game suspension. I feel like you guys are overblowing this whole thing just because it’s a rival. It’s a bad look, no doubt since he did break the rules. But you can’t give a death sentence of playing time because he borrowed money, which we assume was for flying his girlfriend to a bowl game. I can see that the “family friend” could be an agent considering the timeline, but has not been proven to be so. And have common sense that we all break rules in our daily lives and don’t deserve to severely punished for small infractions. He’s paying his due by sitting out 2 games and that’s appropriate in my opinion. I’m sure some of you might think it’s my OSU bias, but this is just common sense.

OP, it didn't drop to 2 games.  It was never officially more than that.  I believe he was suspended indefinitely and the NCAA just announced today that it is for 2 games.   That's my take anyway.
